“This is the true joy of life: the being used up for a purpose rec-ognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature in-stead of a feverish, selfish little clot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.” -George Bernard Shaw.I’ve been re-reading Rick War-ren’s “The Purpose Driven Life” which takes the reader on a 40-day journey to discover one’s purpose. The book begins with a profound yet simple statement: “It’s not about you.” It is clear to me that true leadership closely parallels the journey of finding purpose; neither is focused on self and both are driven to make the world a better place.Congratulations to the 2014-15 Leadership Martin County grad-uates:Chad Askeland City of Fairmont

The Project 1590 group is now forming committees for each of the proj-ects that the community identified to help build prosperity in Fairmont and some have already started working. Presentations are ongoing to build awareness about projects and to aid in connecting people and or-ganizations to push plans toward reality. It could be argued that the total focus of Project 1590 lies in the realm of building a local economy.According to Fairmont Sentinel reporter July Bryan, “Representatives of Project 1590 approached the Fairmont Economic Development Authority on Monday in an effort to maintain and expand a favorable business cli-

mate in Fairmont.” Some FEDA stats high-lighted in the article showed evidence of successes: “Linsey Preuss, Economic De-velopment Director, pointed out that , in the past four months, FEDA has assisted in more than $9 million worth of projects that created 31 and saved seven full-time-equivalent jobs.”Fairmont City Council presentation from June 22nd is rebroadcast on Midcontinent Communications Channel 13 and available for viewing on-line at: www.fairmont.org/city-counsel-meetings.

Edward Jones - Mandi Kosbab507-235-8524Many people find excuses for not investing: 1.) “I’ll do it later.” The longer you wait the harder it may be to reach your goals. So unless you make investing a pri-ority now, you may be forced to play “catch up” later. 2.) “I don’t have enough money to invest.” Put a small amount away each month and when your income goes up, increase your investments. 4.) “I’ll have Social Se-curity.” Typically, Social Security only pays about 40% of an individual’s pre-retirement income. You’ll probably need to supplement Social Secu-rity with your own investments. 5.) “I don’t know where to begin.” Start where you work; if your employer offers a 401(k) or similar retirement plan, take full advantage of it.Don’t let excuses get in your way. Stop by or call 507-235-8524 for assis-tance with your financial future.

Century 21 Northland Realty - Gillian Tunnell507-399-9211Getting your house ready to sell? A coat or two of paint not only freshens a home’s overall appearance and heightens its appeal, but the color can also powerfully set the mood of a room and can even affect our physiology! For example, blue is a great color for bedrooms--its calming effect can lower pulse rate and body temperature. Red is a warm color that stim-ulates energy and excitement, good for dining and living rooms. Green is a restful choice for bedrooms and living rooms, suggesting harmony and balance. White conveys spaciousness and peace and is good for any room. The brain actually releases more serotonin when we look at yellow, which is the color of friendliness and creativity. So get your brushes out, call me, and color your house SOLD!
