Probably the most interesting thing about my time at Samford, even more than

playing football, is my journey in faith. I came to faith at Samford because of

a friend. Despite my reluctance, he convinced me to attend a Bible study with

him, and it grew from there. My faith has lasted because I “put my hand to the

plow.” I started helping at a detention center in Birmingham with kids who are

just like I used to be—in need of direction. Putting faith into action is also why

I chose sports medicine as my major. It’s hands on. I’ve been fortunate enough

to go on a department-sponsored mission trip to the Dominican Republic. I

went thinking, “I’m a college student with all of this knowledge.” But then you

see people in real need and you realize that knowledge only has value if it’s

used to make other people’s lives better. That’s why I’m going into medicine.

That’s why God put me on this Earth.

A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER

SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS No industry today is more dynamic or growing faster than health care. For those called to a life spent caring for others, the health professions include a diverse range of career options that are among some of the most satisfying and fastest growing in the country. The School of Health Professions includes a vast array of specialties and fields of study that make up the majority of health-related careers. The school is comprised of four departments: Cardiopulmonary Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology and Physical Therapy.

At the core of everything we do lies the concept of interprofessional education. Health care today is increasingly delivered by teams of professionals representing different specialties, and practitioners must work in concert to ensure the best outcomes possible. Our students work with others in many disciplines to develop those cooperative skills.

DEPARTMENT OF CARDIOPULMONARY SCIENCESIn the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences we are committed to helping you integrate your faith with skilled practice for the lifelong renewing of your mind and spiritual growth. Our country is experiencing unprecedented demand for respiratory therapists and the time has never been better to pursue a career in the field.

Both the Bachelor of Science in respiratory care and the Master of Science in respiratory care are entry to profession degrees that prepare graduates to take national board examinations in order to obtain a state license to practice immediately following graduation.

Degrees• B.S., respiratory care*• M.S., respiratory care*

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND DISORDERSThe Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders features two degrees, a B.S. in communication sciences and disorders and a M.S. in speech language pathology. In our undergraduate program, we provide you with the educational foundation and practical experiences you need to successfully transition into graduate programs in speech language pathology or audiology.
