Nearly 9 out of 10 Americans struggle to understand everyday health info. So, let’s work together to make the complex language of health care more understandable. Use plain language. @MNHealthLit

There’s no way around it – health care is complicated. So much so that people need help to understand what their health information actually means. That’s why we’re working to improve health literacy in Minnesota. To begin to tackle the problem, we’re committing to use plain language. @MNHealthLit

When people get accurate, easy-to-understand information, they can make better health and wellness decisions. We are committed to improving health literacy and working toward a healthier Minnesota. We’re proud to be doing our part. @MNHealthLit

Using plain language is at the heart of health literacy. Clear, concise information improves patients’ ability to understand and take needed actions. Here are just a few of the ways we’re turning complex jargon into easy-to-understand information: [insert examples of your own activities] @MNHealthLit

Make complex health documents easy on the eyes for better understanding. If people can scan it, they’ll more easily retain it. Best practices: keep it short, use headings and bulleted lists, and always leave plenty of white space. More health literacy tips are available in the Plain Language Campaign from the Minnesota Health Literacy Partnership. @MNHealthLit

October is Health Literacy Month. Join health literacy advocates around the world in promoting the importance of making health and insurance information understandable. Start using plain language today! @MNHealthLit
