FA Off-Load Switches

Lenoir Elec High Power Switches are engineered to meet your needs

The silver-platted copper-made mobile contacts are of the wiping (silver to silver) blade type, allowing self-cleaning during operations. They consist of two parallel blades or sets of two parallel blades paralleled each other to achieve higher current ratings (rating > 2000 A). Massive silver rivets are inserted on the contact area of the mobile blades to improve current interchange. Stainless steel backup springs, mounted between each blades, assure high pressure contact wiping allowing to achieve maximum pinch performance and so very high electrical withstand, low voltage drop and low temperature rises.

FA switches are available as disconnecting switches (FA10), two-positions change-over or grounding switches (FA12) and three-positions change-over switches with (FA102) or without (FA132) central off-position.

FA10 technology is used to isolate a circuit (insulation level as per IEC 60947-3 standard) whereas FA12, FA132 and FA102 are used to select off-load a circuit ; FA102 has a central offposition.

Three-positions switches manually operated are equipped with a locking handle allowing to easily select and maintain the switch position.

Auxiliary contacts

In standard configuration FA products can be supplied with two or four auxiliary contacts (1NO + 1NC – see characteristics page 5) per position (other optional configurations available under request).

FA range: 3000 V AC/DC and up to 6300 A AC / 8000 A DC

FA disconnectors and switches offer safety, high performances, reliability and robustness for heavy duty requirements with very limited maintenance.

That makes our FA range particularly suited to be used in most demanding and critical applications: Power Generation (Hydro, Thermal, Wind, PV), DC traction (Metros and Tramways substations, depots), Mining…

From a modular design FA switches are available from 1 up to 6 main poles with a thermal current ranging from 500 A AC/DC up to 8000 A DC (6300 A AC). Insulation voltage is 3000 V AC/DC.

For more than 25 years Lenoir Elec has been providing safe and reliable solutions for switching and disconnecting high power.

Lenoir Elec High Power Switches include different ranges of proven technologies: Bar contactors (UNELEC origine), on-load and off-load switches for traction application... That gives us worldwilde recognized expertise in Switching and Disconnecting.

Manual or motor operated

FA switches can be either manually or electrically operated. Manual operation is achieved using a handle which can be directly fixed on the switch or on the panel door of a cubicle using an optional shaft extension (50,100,150,200,250 mm).

Electrical operation is achieved using a geared motor which can be equipped with an optional hand crank for manual operation (electrical interlocking of the hand crank available under request)

Design

Basically a FA switch consists in one shaft mounted between two light-alloys flanges. This shaft allows to actuate by the way of insulating-connecting-rods the mobile contacts of the poles (making the break easily visible). These poles (up to 6) are assembled between the flanges using polyester insulators insuring the creepage distances and requested insulation level. This design also allows to isolate the live side of the switch from the control side and to operate it safely. The upper and bottom connecting plates allow to easily connect the switch to the supplying bus-bars or cables.

Locking devices

Special realization

FA switches are easily customizable to perfectly meet customer’s needs.

Example: motorized two poles, 2000 Amps FA switch with front cover, key locks, position indicator, terminal block and lockable emergency hand crank on the front cover.

Control terminal and Control box

Manual switches are lockable in both open and closed position either using a key lock or a padlock. Key locks are mounted on the top and/or the bottom of the handle support. When turning the key the lock-bolt will mechanically lock the handle in position; as an option an auxiliary contact can be used to indicate the status of the locking device.

When using a blocking electro-magnet, this one, when electrically activated, will act on the same way as the key-lock, making the driving shaft of the gear motor impossible to rotate.

Motor operated switches can also be locked in position (10, 12, 102, 132) either using a keylock or a blocking electromagnet. Key-locks are mounted on the gear motor through a machine-welded support; here the lockbolt will directly act on the driving shaft of the gear-motor making it impossible to rotate. An auxiliary contact can be used to indicate the status (open / closed) of the key-lock.
