The acquisition of Burnt Tree by Enterprise Flex-E-Rent has obviously taken centre stage in recent weeks. The next chapter of our journey is full of new possibilities and whilst change can be unsettling, in time we’re confident that this development will be an overwhelmingly positive one for all of us.Right now we have the small matter of the final quarter of our Financial Year to focus on. If we are to hit our targets it’s going to take a concerted effort from every part of the business. At the start of the year we revealed our new vision, “To become the UK’s Leading and Largest provider of the most diverse flexible rental and contractual commercial vehicle fleet”. We acknowledged, given the scale of such an ambitious statement, it was difficult to put clear

timescales and numbers around it, so in classic Burnt Tree style we broke it down into smaller, more manageable goals – the principle one being a turnover of £100 million. We’re delighted to announce that in July for the first time our revenues topped the £8.4 million necessary to achieve that milestone; a fantastic achievement for which we should all be justifiably very proud. Our focus must now be on achieving Budget, On Rent Challenge and individual objectives. As of Wednesday 17th September the On Rent is £16,486, leaving 382 still to go to achieve the On Rent Challenge of 16,868 - a big number but absolutely achievable if we all pull together, good luck!

In times of change it’s easy to get distracted and you can be sure that’s exactly what the competition are counting on. It’s up to each of us now to focus on what we can do to ensure that collectively we end the year on the strongest possible note – so it is absolutely “Business As Usual”!Good Luck!Chris, Gareth, Mark & Steve

The Sheffield branch have supported an adventurous team of fundraisers from Meadowhall shopping centre who took on a staggering 405 miles cycle challenge and raised over £30,000 for a local charity in the process. A 26-strong team of Meadowhall staff and business associates, headed up by Centre Director Darren Pearce, cycled from Sheffield to Paris in aid of the centre’s charity of the year, St Luke’s Hospice.Darren Pearce, Meadowhall Centre Director commented: “We had an absolutely fantastic time making the journey from Sheffield to Paris. It has been an absolute pleasure to coordinate this fundraising challenge, pulling together a range of fundraisers from across the city and I would like to thank everyone who was involved.“To top it off, we rounded the challenge off by watching the final of the Tour de France – having hosted a huge celebration for the Tour cyclists at the Meadowhall Fan Fest to wave them off it was a great way to finish. “It was a tough few days, although it was dry and Sunny, the heat was incredible! Each and every participant completed the journey, raising over £30,000 for Meadowhall’s charity of the year, St Luke’s Hospice - a truly terrific achievement. “We’d also like to say a huge thank you to those who supported us, especially local business Burnt-Tree vehicle hire, who gave us a van free of charge to take with us on the challenge for emergency repairs and to carry all the kit.”

Joining Jack is a charity set up by Jack’s family to raise money and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare form of the neuromuscular condition that affects about 100 boys every year.

Ben Quayle, Contract Hire Administrator, based at our Wigan branch co-ordinated the loan of a refrigerated MB Sprinter for the day.

Alex Johnson, Jack’s mum commented, “the support that you gave us added hugely to the event, and the feedback has been absolutely wonderful....your valued aid means that Jack and others like him can live in hope of a cure.”

Southampton opened their account with a major win as they swooped in and secured an 18 vehicle long-term rental deal with local company Kestrel Guards. The three-year deal covers a complete fleet replacement programme for Kestrel Guards and includes the supply of 15 Ford Fiesta and 3 Peugeot Partner vans. These have now all gone into service with the Southampton-based company, providing mobile patrol, key holding and alarm response services to customers across the South and South West of England, from West Sussex right across to Cornwall.Commenting on the deal, James Matthews, director at Kestrel Guards said, “During the negotiations, Burnt Tree provided us with a tailored solution to our fleet requirements, including essential support out of hours. This is key for us as the majority of our security work is done during the night, so we needed full reassurance that they would be able to support us at all times of the day and night.”The majority of the vehicles are now based

out of Kestrel’s head office in Southampton, although there will be three of the 18 strong vehicle fleet based at the company’s branch in Redruth, Cornwall.“Another significant advantage of working with Burnt Tree has been their flexibility to our requirements whenever we have been in need of additional short-term vehicles to supplement our fleet and this has really impressed us,” commented James Matthews.

Maria Nykoluk, Kevin Matthews and the team at Peterborough held their own World Cup this July which was held at Ipswich Town Football Club. The Club made Burnt Tree very welcome allowing us access to all of their facilities and providing an excellent location for the event. Burnt Tree and Refrigerental both put their best foot forward and entered teams along side teams from some of Peterborough’s customers. The day was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part. Unfortunately neither of the Burnt tree teams were victorious this year but they put up a good fight. The winner’s cup was taken away by The John Henry Group with Barhale as Runners up; the day was followed up by drinks and a two course dinner. Kevin Matthews would like to thank the Peterborough branch for all their support and help with the event and Head Office, London East, Oldbury and Shrewsbury branches for their support at the event.

SHREWSBURY FOOD FESTIVAL

Burnt Tree Shropshire proudly sponsored this year’s Shrewsbury Festival in June. The event was enjoyed by over 20,000 people who experienced the best of local produce and enjoyed the best in unsigned Shropshire music. The food festival was a prime opportunity for Burnt Tree to cement its name as a local business and supporter of the Shropshire community. The Shropshire branches were there over the weekend handing out goodie bags and flyers and the Accessible Rental Dreambus took pride of place at the entrance to the event. Shropshire Branch manager Will Henderson said “ It was great to remind the local community that we are here and get the refrigerental product out there, so far we have gained a couple of local customers and we are looking to increase that over the coming month”

A GIANT STEP FOR REFRIGERENTALRefrigerental recently supported one of the most spectacular events to be held in liverpool, three giants – a grandma, a granddaughter and a dog - roamed the streets of liverpool, telling the story of the city’s involvement in World War I. Supporting the three giants were two refrigerated vehicles that acted as support vehicles for the operators of the giants, providing them with drinks and refreshments during the three-day event. Thousands of people lined Liverpool’s streets for the 3 day giant marionette show that was commemorating World War One, culminating in the Memories of August 1914 event attracting an audience in excess of 1 million visitors in total, as they produced a

spectacular piece of street theatre which, similar to the event in 2012, saw them embark on an emotional journey around the city.

Commenting on the Liverpool Giants event, Mark Howell said, “When Liverpool Council approached us as one of the few local vehicle rental companies supplying refrigerated vehicles, we were keen to help them with this unusual request. Our Wigan branch had two vehicles available that were ideally suited to the job.”

THE CHILL IS ON...

Two Shropshire businesses were linked when Market Drayton based Culina Logistics fought off the competition to be crowned the successful first time winners of the ‘Temperature Controlled Operator of the Year’ award sponsored by Refrigerental at the 2014 Motor Transport Awards.“We are proud to have won this prestigious industry award in our 20th anniversary year and would like to publicly acknowledge the dedication and hard work of everyone at Culina, their commitment to quality shines through. AND THE AWARD GOES TO...

Burnt Tree was honoured with a Gold Zero Waste award this March for our dedication and innovative approach to reducing waste. Burnt Tree is one of only nine companies in the UK to receive this recognition. We will receive further recognition of reducing our waste to landfill by being automatically entered into the Zero Waste Champion category at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.

GOING FOR GOLD

THE GOLD RUSH CONTINUESBurnt Tree was also among the winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2014. The Gold award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents was presented during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on May 14, 2014. The RoSPA Awards which date back 58 years recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work.

THERE’S MORE...Burnt Tree won a major award at the British Safety Council International Awards. Out of 524 organisations that won overall BSC International Safety awards this year, Burnt Tree was one of only 33 companies to be shortlisted as deserving candidates for the 12 new sector awards. Burnt Tree was announced the winner of the Wholesale and Retail Services Sector Award at the ISA Gala Dinner held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London in May.

Page 21: Extra Extra Autumn 2014

KEEPING IT GREENBurnt Tree has also been honoured with an International Green World Ambassador at a special ceremony at the Crystal, London. This recognition comes as a result of our Revive and Reduce Project which earned us the Green Apple Environmental Award last year.As a result Burnt Tree was invited to have our winning paper published in The Green Book, the world’s only annual work of reference on environmental best practice.

SHOWING THEM OFF IN STYLE

With all the awards racking up we needed to show them off in style and what better way to do so than use the remaining part of our recycled Ford Transit tipper which was part of our revive and reduce project that earned Burnt Tree there International Green World Ambassador Status. We have achieved 98% of all damaged vehicle components being re-used across the business, we are looking at working with other partners to see whether the further 2% can be re-used or recovered as a target for 2014 including vehicle ancillary components roof racks etc.

Well done to Charlie Bailey and Head Office body shop for coming up with this very appropriate and unique trophy cabinet. I think you will agree they have done a fantastic job. With more awards coming in thick and fast we might need to upgrade to a double cab very soon.

OTHER NEWS

In our most recent account review it was revealed that Burnt Tree had regained the top spot in Costain’s supplier list.Having experienced a difficult period earlier on in the year which resulted in the loss of the coveted “Costain Blue” status, the highest level awarded by Costain, (although, as Maria points out, we were still the best performing vehicle rental supplier) the

account team of Maria Vizard, Kane Bowden and Wendy Austwick have been working tirelessly to re-take the top spot.Mark Ashenden, Supply Chain Manager at Costain commented “it is an excellent result ...well done to all and please keep up the good work!”In another example of the team’s brilliant customer service and something that captures the essence of Loving Your Customers we were approached by Costain about adapting a standard Vauxhall Vivaro to accommodate an employee who was returning to work after a long lay-off due to a work related injury which resulted in the loss of his left foot. Not only did the team carry out their own enquiries and investigation of the possible adaptations but they delivered a brilliant solution that received personal thanks from the employee in question who was able to return to work and carry out all of his duties efficiently and effectively. It later transpired that Costain approached all of their vehicle rental suppliers with the same request but Burnt Tree was the only company to respond.

A birmingham courier firm has been boosted by the addition of a new vehicle to its fleet, thanks to the generosity of national contract hire provider, burnt tree and mercedes benz dealership city west commercials (cwc). Saltley-based Trax Express Systems Ltd, which is part of the UK’s largest independent parcel network, APC Overnight, beat off competition from over 100 other delivery companies, to win a year-long lease of a new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter supplied by City West Commercial Vehicles in partnership with Burnt Tree Contract Hire. The competition was run as part of Burnt Tree’s ongoing collaboration with APC Overnight. LATEST DEALSThe Cambian Group have taken delivery of 6 new vehicles on a 3 year deal taking their fleet to 12. Cambian are one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural health services for children and adults in the UK. Although our work embraces many specialist disciplines, it is united by a common purpose: to actively enable each and every one of the people in our care to achieve their personal best, however it is defined by them or for them. They also provide services for more than 2,400 individuals in 249 services and work with over 140 public authorities and employ more than 6,000 people.

We have recently added PTS (Patient Transport service) vehicles to our ever increasing diverse fleet, built specifically for the NHS and hospital market it adds yet another string to the accessible bow. The Patient Transport Service conveys a wide range of patients to and from their homes to out-patients’ appointments, clinics, physiotherapy or non-urgent inter-hospital transfers. On average PTS crews carry over 1 million patients every year, which involves over 4500 journeys per day. This represents a huge opportunity within our sector to grow the fleet, with customers already including “DHL, South East Coast Ambulance, Royal Bolton Hospital and Private Ambulance Service” to name a few. Please remember to include all accessible vehicles within your “Vanspots”, as these will also qualify as leads for you.
