The bold, white ‘F’ stamped against a blue background is one of the most recognised logos in the world with 1.59 billion active users contributing to the chaotic and opinionated virtual reality that is Facebook. I’m of the belief that the average Facebook newsfeed is more or less the same: cluttered with old school friends who are strangers now, the colleagues you donyou don’t particularly like, and those people you met that one time down the pub and drunkenly decided to slur ‘you gots Fazebuk? Ooh, add me, add me! We’ll definitely keep in touch’. If it’s anything like my newsfeed, then there is no doubt the

the amount of posts you scroll past spewing complaints about what other people choose to post stacked upwards would be higher than the Wall in Game of Thrones.

To the fitness Facebookers: Keep posting your positive body transformation photos. You worked hard for them. We love to see you happy with your progress and it reminds us that we have the power to improve ourselves everyday.

To the parent posting updates about their children: Continue to use Facebook to show how proud you are of your little ones. Parenting is one of the most unique and diof your little ones. Parenting is one of the most unique and difficult journeys known to humans, so why shouldn’t you get to show off how great of a job you’re doing? And let’s be honest, we all love having baby photos to look at of ourselves to whine about how our mothers’ dressed us in a plethora of hideous patterns that totally don’t go.

To the teenagers going through issues: Keep posting your worries and sharing your thoughts. They matter to us and are all important to you and who you become to be. We can’t wait to see how you do.

To those who self-promote their businesses: Keep advertising your businesses. We love how passionate you are about your job and seeing how hard you work to develop your business. Sharing a project that started are about your job and seeing how hard you work to develop your business. Sharing a project that started out as ‘your baby’ and offering her to the world is a scary thing. We are proud of you.

To those who post Selfies: Don’t stop showing us it’s okay to acknowledge ‘I look great today’. We’re all guilty of focusing too much on our flaws sometimes. You inspire us to love ourselves. Bitterness comes from those who wish they were as confident. You wouldn’t let others around you control you, so why should you let the voices on the internet?

We live in a world where our freedom of voice is controlled by even Facebook

Room (2015)Room (2015)

Plucking the poignant and brutal story written by Emma Donoghue directly from its critically acclaimed pages, director Lenny Abrahamson produces a heart-wrenching film brought to life by the transfixing main cast that will stay with the audience for a long time. Room tells the tale of the imprisonment of a Room tells the tale of the imprisonment of a young mother (Brie Larson) and her five-year-old son, Jack (Jacob Tremblay) fathered by her rapist and capturer (Sean Bridgers). The room in question is a seemingly inescapable garden shed that forms the child’s whole universe, the outside Earth being but a confusing and undiscovered territorconfusing and undiscovered territory.

Abrahamson does not handle the heavy subject matter with gloved fingertips, but instead bravely grabs it with both hands through Jack’s skewed perspective of the horrifying events that make up his life. The audience, however, is left regretfully clear on the multiple rapes and merciless abuse shown through the boyshown through the boy’s eyes. Manipulation of camera angles adjust the way we see the room, whether it should feel spacious or constricted, cleverly creating a tense and often claustrophobic atmosphere.

Larson (Short-term 12, Trainwreck), with her hopeless eyes and tired expressions, does not fall short when the time comes to produce an emotionalscene. Her ingenious line delivery undeniably carvesout her ongoing battle between her character’sneed to stay present and her desire to sink under the depths of no responsibilities and despaidepths of no responsibilities and despair. She is captivating, yes, but the mesmerising, and some- what surprising, show-stealer is her co-star.

9-year-old Tremblay’s soaring and moving performance leaves no room for doubt that fantastic child acting exists. Whipping through several emotions from devastation to impenetrable joy, he demonstrates an ehe demonstrates an effortless knack for convincing us how to feel. Their mother-son relationship is passionately displayed, propelling it into the list of unforgettable duos.

Through the bleak and distressing nature of Room, you’ll find it hard to be distracted, even long after the film has finished.the film has finished.

4 things that kept me sane in...Deadline Month

The Eighth Wonder of the world is why universities choose to select the same day for all deadlines. Your to-do list goes from trivial errands like ‘buy more nail polish remover’ and ‘call mum back’ to ‘finish all four essays’, ‘start that report’, ‘create next week’s presentation’ AND ‘call mum back’. You’re surprised you haven’t got a full head of grey hair by the end of it. But here’s four things that can keep you sane during that uphill struggle:

Yoga on YoutubeYoutube is the key to a de-stressing goldmine. Yoga has beenpracticed for years now as a method of relaxation. From 3 minuteto hour long instructing videos, it means that your study breaks can be peaceful and rejuvenating too. We recommend yogawithadriene on Youtube to get started!

Green TeaThe ingredients of Green Tea, including anti-oxidantsand the chemical theanine which have proven to helprelax the body, are a quick and easy way to ease your mind when you feel like it’s running at 100mph. Besides, let’s face it, a hot drink just makes you say ‘aah’. WWe recommend a decaffeinated tea bag for those who wantto feel calmer.

Create a ‘relaxation room’ Whether it be simply a corner of your bedroom or your livingroom, choose a quiet place that isn’t the same as your workspace and make it your own place of serenity to takea break in! We recommend lighting candles, spritzing your favourite calming scent, and listening to soothing music even if itit’s just for a while.

Adult Colouring BooksYes, we know you thought you left these behind in pre-school, but focusing your brain on something other than your deadlinesand on a task as simple as colouring can be a therepeutic way of giving your mind a rest from the hard-hitting stuff. Werecommend The Mindfulness Colouring Book: Anti-stress ArtTherapy for Busy People Therapy for Busy People by Emma Farrarons available on Amazon.
