  1. 1. Everything You May Have Wondered About Gardening With the current organic trend, holistic lifestyles are common these days. People who are part of this lifestyle will often need to grow their own herbs for the best health benefits, and these plants should be grown organically. Read the following article, and get some great tips on how to grow an organic garden. Always allow your plants to adapt gradually to any changes in light conditions, temperatures or soils, if you do not, you might shock them and cause them to die. Put them in the sun outside for a couple of hours during the first day. Over the course of a week, slowly increase the amount of time that you leave them outside. At week's end, the plants should be welcoming of their new home. When powdery mildew appears on your plants, you should not rush out to purchase a costly chemical treatment. Plain water with a bit of liquid soap and baking soda will do the trick. Once a week, spray this on plants to eliminate the mildew. No damage will occur to your plants, and the baking soda is mild and efficient. Do you enjoy fresh mint, but don't like how they engulf your garden in their growth? You can control their growth by placing them into a pot or container. Bury the container so that your plant does not stand out. The container will keep the roots from spreading too far. You should make sure to divide your irises. Try increasing your stock by dividing your overgrown clumps of plants. Pick up bulbous irises after the foliage dies. The bulbs should automatically divide in your palm, and once you put them back into the earth, they will typically flower the following year. Divide rhizomes with a knife. Cut new outside pieces and dispose of the center. Don't plant any pieces that don't have any strong offshoots. Replant immediately. Read instructions on new gardening chemicals and tools before you use them. You might end up damaging your plants or getting a skin irritation. Protect your plants and yourself by knowing how to correctly use all of your horticulture implements. Make sure that you wear appropriate clothing when you garden so as to avoid any sun damage. Make sure you wear a wide brimmed hat along with sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen. Protecting yourself from the sun will lower your chances of getting skin cancer, as well as prevent premature aging from sun damage. As in most things, the more you know about organic horticulture, the more successful you will be. Keep in mind that the advice you've read is only the beginning.
