Hyundai Hopman Cup XXIII 1 - 8 January, Burswood Dome, Perth The prestigious invitational mixed teams tennis tournament attracts some of the world’s best players. This exhilarating display of sportsmanship sees countries competing against one another vying for the Hopman Cup crown. During its 22-year history, the event has seen the likes of Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Mark Philippoussis and Roger Federer compete.

Lancelin Ocean Classic 6 - 9 January, Lancelin Experience Australia’s four-day premier windsurfing event which attracts the world’s best athletes to the picturesque cray fishing town of Lancelin, just one hour north of Perth. The Lancelin Ocean Classic is the highlight of the town’s annual events calendar.

The Doctor – Surf Ski World Cup 19 - 30 January, Rottnest to Hillarys, Sorrento Beach This multi-sport race takes place over 11 days and incorporates a range of distances on a variety of paddle craft from skis to paddle boards. There is more than $30,000 of cash and prizes up for grabs this year, making it an exciting sporting event not to be missed. The event starts and finishes on the beaches of Rottnest Island and Sorrento, overlooking Perth’s beautiful sunset coast.

Nannup Music Festival 4 - 7 March, Nannup A weekend of music, entertainment and performances. This festival features dance bands, street acts, circus performers, workshops, talent quest and emerging artist awards. The Nannup Music Festival provides fun for the whole family and with more than 60 acts on offer, it’s sure to please all tastes and ages.

Sculpture by the Sea Cottesloe 3 - 22 March, Cottesloe Beach See Cottesloe Beach transform into an outdoor sculpture park, with more than 70 sculptures on display. This iconic annual exhibition is one of Perth’s largest and free public events. This year will feature exhibits from some of the world’s top sculptors, against a backdrop of one of the city’s most popular beaches.

Taste Great Southern 4 - 7 March, Great Southern A festival rich and diverse in flavours, showcasing the region’s outstanding wines, produce and people. This year’s event has an exciting mix of free wine tastings, cooking master classes with celebrity chefs and specially prepared culinary sensations. This event is set within the stunning Great Southern region of Western Australia.

Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest 12 & 13 March, Mandurah Festival-goers will enjoy superb cuisine, stalls, displays and an amazing array of entertainment. Highlights include cooking demonstrations by local chefs and Channel 7 celebrities as well as live music at the Salute Stage and Boutique Bar. There will be entertainment for children, fashion parades and motor cross stunts. This family friendly event is set in the vibrant city of Mandurah.

Margaret River Wine Region Festival 17 - 21 March, Margaret River This festival showcases Margaret River and exhibits its wealth of wine, food, art and cultural experiences. The event provides an opportunity to celebrate the region and allows the public to sample local produce and a selection of more than 200 wines at the Vintage Festival. Take this opportunity to unwind, surrounded by beautiful vineyards and Western Australia’s best surf and beaches.

FEBRUARYBusselton Jetty Swim 5 & 6 February, Busselton The internationally recognised, world-class 3.6 kilometre ocean swim around the iconic Busselton Jetty is an event not to be missed. The event attracts more than 1,000 competitors each year and takes place over two days. The main event incorporates entertainment, activities and family fun throughout the day. All of this action is set within Western Australia’s extraordinary South West region.

Commonwealth Bank Series One Day International – Australia v England 6 February, Perth Australia takes on England in the seventh and final match of the one day international series at the WA Cricket Ground. Australia will be hoping for another victory after taking out England at the Ashes Series at the WA Cricket Ground in December last year.

Perth International Arts Festival 11 February - 7 March, Perth As one of Western Australia’s premier cultural events, the Perth International Arts Festival is a feast of joyous, cutting-edge performances and activities for all ages. Experience some of the world’s best international and contemporary theatre, dance, music, film, visual arts and literature. This international festival is a wonderful display of creativity and talent providing amazing entertainment for all.

Boyup Brook Country Music Festival 16 - 20 February, Boyup Brook Boyup Brook’s four-day country music festival is a fun filled family event featuring live music, a bush poet’s breakfast, street carnival, workshops, the Western Australian Country Music Awards and the Boyup Ute and Truck Muster. This exciting event takes place in the peaceful town of Boyup Brook, which is situated on the Blackwood River, 269km south-east of Perth.

Geographe Bay Race Week 25 February - 4 March, Geographe Bay, Busselton Experience the largest annual yachting race in Western Australia. Now in its eighth year, the event is expected to attract some 150 yachts to compete in this regatta. Complementing the on-water racing is a full social calendar featuring live entertainment, twilight sailing, a picnic race day and big band performances.

MAYV8 Supercars Trading Post Perth Challenge 29 April - 1 May, Barbagallo Raceway, Wanneroo The V8 Supercars Championship returns to Western Australia in 2011. This will be one weekend not to be missed for motorsport enthusiasts. The event will feature five national support categories making it one of the strongest event programs on the V8 Supercars season calendar and the most events ever featured at the Perth round.

Paspaley Beach Polo 8 – 15 May, Broome Paspaley Beach Polo combines one of nature’s greatest assets, the sunset over the Kimberley coast with the vigour and excitement of Australia’s top professional polo players competing for the Paspaley Cup. This free public event showcases beach polo and features professional polo players in a round robin competition ending in the final. Held on the picturesque Cable Beach in Broome, the Paspaley Beach Polo is not to be missed.

Ironman 70.3 Busselton 6 & 7 May, Busselton Otherwise known as the Half Ironman 70.3, this event attracts participants from around the world. The Half Ironman takes competitors on a 1.9km swim, a 90.1km bike ride and a 21.1km run. Ironman 70.3 also includes a retail expo, fun run and a swim with the pros. This exhilarating event takes place on the extraordinary beaches of Busselton.

Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster 12 - 22 May, East Kimberley This is a community celebration of the East Kimberley region, highlighting its cultural diversity, stunning landscape and country hospitality. Event highlights include the Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience concert featuring Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes, Waringarri Corroboree, Bush Tucker Cooking, Comedy Night and the Barramundi Concert. All of this can be experienced in one of the most beautiful regions on earth.

Ningaloo Whaleshark Festival 28 & 29 May, Exmouth This extraordinary festival is held at the beginning of the whale shark season to welcome back the gentle giants to the turquoise waters of Exmouth. The festival comprises a family day of fun featuring entertainment, expos and educational displays. There will be opportunities to view the whale sharks during the day, followed by an afternoon of live music and entertainment. This captivating event takes place off the fabulous coast of Exmouth in the State’s North West.

APRILTelstra Drug Aware Pro Margaret River 4 - 10 April, Margaret River Catch the action as some of the world’s best surfers compete in this prime rated men’s and women’s event at Surfers Point. Check out surfing’s elite take on the big waves of Margaret River and don’t miss out on the festival, comprising surf, art and music.

Quit Forest Rally 15 - 17 April, Nannup / Busselton Western Australia’s round of the Australian Rally Championship is a motorsport extravaganza, with close to 200 cars and bikes competing over the weekend. The event sees the main street of Nannup transformed into a rally service park, providing spectators with a chance to view the cars being serviced, talk to the crews and enjoy the hospitality.

UCI World Cycling Tour 16 April, Perth Amateur cyclists have the opportunity to become UCI World Champions in their age category. Experience a one-day, world-class mass participation cycling race starting and finishing in the heart of Perth. The scenic and challenging course will encompass Kings Park and the Perth city with Swan River views. During the race, be entertained with live commentary followed by an official awards ceremony. An additional Time Trial is being held on 14 April on Rottnest Island as part of the UCI World Cycling Tour.

Fremantle Street Arts Festival 23 - 26 April, Fremantle Australia’s largest street performance festival showcasing some of the world’s best performers. Some of the talents include comedians, contortionists, circus performers and magicians. This free family event will be held on the streets of the historic port city of Fremantle.

GAMEX 2011 Fishing Tournament 19 - 26 March, Exmouth Running for more than 30 years, GAMEX has become Western Australia’s premier game fishing tournament. Anglers of all experience levels can compete for the 17 main prize divisions and daily giveaways. The Australian International Billfish Tournament is held prior to GAMEX, from 14-17 March. Both events can be viewed from the crystal blue waters that surround Exmouth, which is home to more than 40 different game fish species including various types of billfish.

The West Australian Great WA Bike Ride 19 - 27 March, South West A nine-day, all inclusive and fully supported cycling and camping adventure, which is considered to be one of Australia’s largest cycling holidays. The past two years have seen more than 4,500 people take on the challenge, providing a great experience for all bike enthusiasts. The 590 kilometre journey explores towering forests, white sandy beaches and world famous wineries in Australia’s South West.

Lancelin Coastal Clash 26 & 27 March, Lancelin A new multi-sport event involving different sporting competitions over the weekend. This event caters for all, with seven different races featuring a wide range of sports from ocean swimming and paddling to road riding and running. There is even an opportunity to compete in all of the races. This action packed weekend incorporates the best of the beach, fun, socialising and good times. Each race provides a spectacular course and new challenges in a magnificent coastal environment just 90 minutes north of Perth.

Go For 2&5 Australian Athletics Tour Final Perth 31 March & 1 April, Mount Claremont, Perth The Australian Athletics Tour brings together the country’s finest track and field athletes for a five meet series with a prize pool of more than $400,000. More than 1,200 visitors are expected to witness the Nation’s best athletes compete at the Australian Athletics Tour final in Perth.

SEPTEMBERPerth Fashion Festival 21 - 27 September, Perth The festival, now in its 13th year, has established itself as one of Australia’s most exciting and dynamic fashion events. The festival features more than 50 events, including designer runway shows, free fashion parades, student runway and various red carpet events.

Australasian Safari 23 - 30 September, Western Australia’s Outback Known as the ‘Dakar Down Under’, the Australasian Safari is one of the most prestigious multi-day endurance rally racing events in the world. This seven day off road rally attracts some of the world’s most talented and extreme motorsport competitors who will battle for the title in the 4WD, motorbike and quad bike categories.

AUGUSTAvon Descent 6 & 7 August, Northam to Perth The Avon Descent is Western Australia’s own unique sporting event that attracts competitors and spectators from throughout Australia and overseas. Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 134 gruelling kilometres.

JULYMundaring Truffle Festival 30 & 31 July, Mundaring Experience a unique opportunity to savour a truffle-themed gourmet weekend featuring leading Western Australian and National chefs. This fabulous experience offers food tastings, gourmet produce markets, cooking demonstrations and the world’s longest truffle table luncheon. Western Australia is one of the rare places in the world where the black truffle grows, and the festival offers an exclusive opportunity to taste, buy and learn about this culinary delicacy.

Revelation Perth International Film Festival 14 - 24 July, Astor Theatre, Mt Lawley An annual film festival based around a prestigious and boutique screening program of new and premiere films drawn directly from the international festival scene, often unseen in Australia. The festival embraces cutting-edge movies, live music and performances.

Mundaring Truffle Festival JUNELeonora Golden Gift Weekend 4 - 6 June, Leonora A unique athletic carnival incorporating Australia’s richest 1,600 metre event, the Elite Mile. With more than $50,000 in prize money on offer, this event attracts an array of international athletes. The weekend carnival includes a free community concert, horse racing carnival, fireworks, children’s entertainment, market stalls and other street performances all in the picturesque outback of Western Australia.

OCTOBERGreat Collections of the World - Princely Treasures: European Masterpieces 1600-1800 from the Victoria & Albert Museum 24 September - 9 January, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth This must see exhibit showcases the greatest collections of European decorative art from the 17th and 18th centuries. Exclusive to Perth from London, the exhibition features 80 masterpieces including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, miniature and monumental pieces, prints and drawings.

Cape to Cape MTB 20 - 23 October, Augusta to Dunsborough Experience a four-day mountain bike event through the Margaret River region from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste, set against a backdrop of world-famous beaches, private farmlands, rocky outcrops and national forests. This event is designed for serious recreational riders looking for a unique personal challenge.

International Super Series Hockey Tournament 20 - 23 October, Perth Hockey Stadium Unlike any other hockey tournament in the world, the International Super Series sees Australia plays host to some of the world’s top teams in an innovative form of the game. With several new and exciting rules developed to make the game ever faster and more exciting, fans can expect to see hockey like you have never seen it before!

Holden Netball Test Series 23 October, Burswood Dome A feast of international netball, featuring four of the top seven teams in the world. Malawi and South Africa play a curtain raiser before the Australian Diamonds take on arch-rivals the New Zealand Silver Ferns in what promises to be another epic battle. This is ‘must see’ netball – fast, furious and physical, and an opportunity for fans to see some of the world’s greatest players in action.

DECEMBERPerth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships 3 - 18 December, Fremantle The world’s best sailors converge on Fremantle’s spectacular ocean for one of the largest international sporting events in Western Australia’s history. An Olympic qualifier for London 2012, this exhilarating event is anticipated to attract 5,000 visitors from 80 nations to experience the action and festivities on the sandy shores of Western Australia.

Indian Rim Asian University Games 4 - 10 December, Perth Open to university teams from the Indian Ocean Rim and Asian regions, this event enables students to participate in a friendly competition, share in cultural exchanges and in the process build lifelong friendships. With more than 29 sports and 75,000 students participating over the past 13 years, this event is the ‘Olympic Games’ of the university community.

SunSmart Ironman Western Australia 4 December, Busselton More than 1,500 of the world’s best triathletes tackle this grueling yet fast course consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km marathon. With 40 qualifying spots up for grabs for the World Championship Ironman Hawaii, SunSmart Ironman attracts more than 5,000 spectators who are also able to join in on the action.
