LONDON & PARTNERS EVENT PLANNER GUIDE 2016

Royal historyTake a tour of London’s royal locations, from Kensington Palace, the London home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to Banqueting House in Whitehall, home to the famous Ruben’s ceiling.

During the summer the lavish State Rooms of the Queen’s residence are also open to visitors. From March to October you can take a tour of the Royal Mews, where you’ll see the State Coach and horses.

Take a walk though scenic St. James’s Park to Westminster Abbey, the historic setting for some of the most famous royal Weddings and coronations.

Head to Hampton Court Palace, home of King Henry VIIIand his doomed queen, Anne Boleyn, to explore its famous maze as well as a living Tudor world. Relax in one of the eight Royal Parks across the city, once used as deer parks for royal hunts, to formal private gardens, these green spaces are now open for all to enjoy.

Visit Kew Palace to catch a glimpse inside an intimate royal family retreat. Set in Kew Gardens, you can take in the Royal Kitchens, untouched since Queen Charlotte’s death in 1818 and explore the family’s cottage used for resting and taking tea during walks in the gardens.

Luxury LondonFrom luxury hotels such as the Park Lane Hotel, recently renovated and Grosvenor House, a J.W. Marriott hotel, to designer shopping and exclusive restaurants, London has everything you need for a fabulously decadent break.

Team culture and luxury with a visit to the renowned Royal Academy followed by a trip to Fortnum & Mason, the Queen’s grocer, for a traditional afternoon tea. Make sure you leave time to buy gifts in these classic gift shops.

Bond Street is home to all of the world’s biggest luxury brands including Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, or if you prefer to take the hassle out of shopping, book a personal shopping experience at Harrod’s By Appointment Service. Afterwards relax and enjoy pre-theatre drinks at one of London’s top hotels, Claridge’s.

For traditional tailoring visit Piccadilly, then head to Liberty for opulent treats or take a trip to Old Spitalfields market to sample everything from superb teas at Teasmith to vintage fashion.

To escape the buzz of the city, feel pampered with a pure indulgence body ritual at ESPA Life at the Corinthia, have a cocktail at Dirty Martini in Hanover Square, before heading to the Dorchester and Alain Ducasse’s restaurant for a bit of dining in style.

Shoppers’ delightLondon is a shoppers’ paradise. Try some of these suggestions for some shopping therapy:

Take a trip to one of the capital’s two top shopping centres Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City. They contain all of the best luxury and high-street brands together with fabulous food areas for refuelling. Or head to the London Designer Outlet at Wembley for some bargain buys.

London’s West End shopping district gives you easy access to the best stores, whatever your tastes. Oxford Street is home to flagship retailers such as John Lewis and Selfridges, whereas Regent Street and Sloane Street have some mid range to high end stores. Don’t forget Shaftesbury Avenue and St Martin’s Courtyard, off the main shopping area for fashion-forward brands, trendy homeware and top places for a bite to eat.

Alternatively, check out Carnaby Street, Seven Dials and Berwick Street for boutique brands, independent record stores, and bars and cafés ideal for resting and watching the world go by. In the evening, head to nearby Chinatown for crispy duck with pancakes and hoisin sauce.

For a trip out of London, visit Bicester Village for lots of exclusive offers and a VIP experience in luxury outlets such as Burberry, Jimmy Choo and Mulberry.

Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotels are all well located around the major shopping areas in London making it a natural fit for those multi day shopping trips.

London itineraries

Hidden gemsFor visitors who think they’ve seen it all, London will always surprise. Some of these hidden gems will excite even the most frequent visitors.

To begin with, why not hop on one of the Santander Cycles, otherwise known as ‘Boris Bikes’ and discover London’s hidden Regent’s Canal Towpath. Continue your journey with a little bit of detective work to the Sherlock Holmes Museum. This Grade II-listed lodging house on Baker Street features waxworks, Victorian ephemera and a good gift shop selling Sherlock Holmes collectibles and novelty items.

Cycle down through the city’s green spaces to explore the weird and wonderful at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! In London’s West End. Ripley’s contains more than 700 artefacts including a life-sized knitted Ferrari, an 8ft Transformer, a mirror maze and the Impossible Laser Race. Be sure to make time for refreshments at one of London’s oldest pubs – The George is the only remaining galleried coaching inn in London. Its origins can be traced back to 1542 and it now belongs to the National Trust. Shakespeare lived and worked nearby, so it’s likely that he sipped a tankard or two of ale here.

Alternatively you could try your hand at cooking at the Cookery School, where groups of up to 50 are taught to prepare either a single dish or a three course meal. Naturally the tasting is the best bit!

London itineraries

Value for moneyA London event need not be expensive. This diverse itinerary won’t break the bank.

Stay in comfort at the Travelodge or Ibis hotels in locations across the city. Or choose one of the many accommodation options across London University campuses such as King’s College London or Imperial College London (summer months only). Accor Hotels such as the Novotel Blackfriars and the Novotel London West are very good value options for both accommodation and meetings.

Hold an event at a value for money venue such as Baden Powell House in South Kensington, or The Light at Friends House.

Sample British food in the oldest pub in London, the rambling Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street, or enjoy live jazz at the Café in the Crypt at St-Martin-in-the Fields or try some tasty modern french food at Café Rouge in several locations in the city. You can also try affordable but elegant BMA House, home to the British Medical Association, which also offers attractively priced spaces for evening dinners and meetings.

Explore the city with a walking street art tour in London’s east end, one of the cities most vibrant and fashionable districts. Or walk the secret parks of London, including the Chelsea Physic Garden. And not to be missed, see the origins of timekeeping at the Prime Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory Greenwich.

Finally Heathrow offers lower cost options than central London with seven great hotels: Sofitel London Heathrow Terminal 5; Hiltons Terminals 4&5; Radisson Edwardian Heathrow; Marriott London Heathrow; Heathrow Windsor Marriott; Doubletree Hilton Heathrow. All have lots of meeting space and a great selection of accommodation without the travel.

London with a viewSee London from up above, with this exhilarating itinerary.

Stay at the Royal Garden Hotel with views of Hyde Park or at the brand new Intercontinental at The O2 overlooking the River Thames.

If you’re looking for a conference room with a view, then London has plenty to offer. Try the River Rooms at the Mermaid which provide stunning views over the Thames, or the Lancaster London near Kensington Gardens.

Tower above the city at dinner time at Galvin at Windows, located at the top of the London Hilton on Park Lane, or try the subtropical Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch, otherwise known as the ‘Walkie-Talkie’. Alternatively, the Gherkin and the Shard offer more intimate private dining options.

The Hilton London Metropole, Europe’s largest hotel, will open a brand new restaurant in January 2016 offering views over the city skyline. It will accommodate up to 200 people for private events.

Last but not least, soar to the highest heights with London Helicopter, which take groups of eight from their Battersea landing pad, or learn how to play roulette on the rooftop at the Hippodrome Casino. And if that’s not enough to whet your appetite, take a trip on the Emirates Airline cable car to see all of London in its glory.
