ACTION ITEM

Resolution authorizing the purchase of two new replacement vehicles, one for

public works and one for the building department.

BACKGROUND

Both the Public Works and Building Department need new vehicles. Public Works

has need of a replacement pickup truck to replace a 2006 Chevrolet 1500 and the

Building Department has need of a vehicle to replace a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The Public Works vehicle is assigned to Russ Rymer and is used primarily to collect

meter readings, install/remove signs, blue stake, repair and install meters.

The Building Department vehicle is assigned to Rick Hansen and is primarily used

for building inspections.

Both vehicles have more than 125,000 miles and are over 10 years old.

EVALUATION

The State contract allows the City to purchase vehicles at a discount from

authorized dealers. Each dealer has a specific and unique contract with the State

allowing for MSRP and optional equipment discounts.

Each dealership would allow the city to purchase a vehicle straight from the lot,

order a vehicle from another location or build a custom vehicle on line to be

shipped directly from the manufacturer.

Bids were solicited from each of the pickup truck dealers on the state contract with

AND REPLACE ONE PICKUP TRUCK FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND ONE PICKUP TRUCK FOR THE BUILDING

DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, pursuant to the City Council’s policy to maintain a reliable fleet of

vehicles, it is necessary to replace two of the existing high mileage vehicles; and

WHEREAS, the proposed vehicles are used daily and the current vehicles have high mileage; and

WHEREAS, the replacement vehicles will be purchased through the Utah State Contract -Bid Schedule.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Mapleton, Utah, that: the Public Works Director be authorized to purchase two 2018 F150 pickups with the necessary features for a cost of $27,578.66 each.

This resolution adopted this 7th day of February 2018, by the City Council of Mapleton City, Utah.
