This iskeeping toconventions. *The main cover linestarts in the left thirdas this is the firstthing the viewer willsee. This is stickingto conventionsthough many othermagazines break thisconvention. * 8. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?Within the top third theeyeline is of the mainimage, the mastheadfills it and the issueand date are included. This is typical for amagazine 9. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?I used the Masthead/logo of the magazine titlePoptastic copied to the page to stay through themagazine as it is the logo. Also used the same font/text/effect for the wordContents so it stands out and is clear. Also thethis font style will make you think of Poptastic.Images included to tell you more about some ofthe articles within the magazine. This issomething almost all magazines do. Giving youimages of what the article/story is about or who. 10. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?On my contents Iused the rule of thirdsto make it easy toread and follow. Thisused in othermagazines and canbe seen as aconvention. With the images pagenumbers are includedto show whatarticle/story they relateto. 11. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONSOF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?The double page alsosticks to using the ruleThe article isof thirds, by keeping written in questionthe text in three and answer format.columns. I did this toThis sticks tomake it clear and easyconventions asto follow.many articlesThe main image Iwritten with aspread out across two person areof the columns and Ipresented this waydid the same with the and usually with aheading. I did this soshort introduction.the heading was bigand bold and clear toread.I used black and white images for the bigger of the two images and the main image so that there wasnt large amounts of colour on the page as it has a coloured background. 13. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTREPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS? What different areas of society are represented in my magazine? Do I deal with issues ofrace, ethnicity, gender, age, social class, disability? 14. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTREPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?I feel my magazine representsdifferent race/ethnicity with the artists Iused in the images. Also I feel that the images show that Iam trying to appeal to younger marketby using younger generation of artists.I feel they represent teenagers. 15. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTREPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS? I feel that my magazine represents the female gender well as all the images I used are of female artists. However I dont feel represented males in my magazine as I planned too. As all the images are female and the articles/stories are more aimed towards females. 16. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTREPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS? I feel my magazine represents middle class people that I am aiming at. I think this because the artists in the image dont have high fashion clothing on so the reader can aspire to be like them. 17. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHTDISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY? Which companies might distribute my magazinee.g. IPC, Emap, Bauer? Do they already distribute magazines from a similargenre? 18. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHTDISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?There are multiple publishing companies thatalready distribute Magazines, Music Magazinesand Pop Music Magazines.I looked into a couple while doing the planning formy music magazine. There are many reasons whysome may distribute my magazine and others maynot. Some of these companies are IPCMedia, Immediate Media Co and Emap. 19. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHTDISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY? Immediate Media Co. Currently publish Top of the Pops Magazine. They as a company would have the knowledge and expertise to distribute a Pop magazine already having a highly successful one. However they would not want to publish another music magazine within the same genre as it may affect the sales of their already existing magazine. 20. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHTDISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?Emap publishes many magazines andpapers in different genres however it doesnot currently publish/distribute any musicmagazine. They could have my magazineas the first and start to distribute musicmagazines though this could be hard havingno previous knowledge or know on how todo it 21. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHTDISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY? This is why I think that IPC might be best to distribute my new Pop Music Magazine. This is because IPC already publish a large variety of different magazines aimed at different kinds of people and different ages. They also only have one music magazine currently on the market NME which is completely different to my Pop magazine as it is Indie. This shows that they know how to market to musical people and the sales of my magazine will not affect the sales of their current music magazine NME. They distribute magazines to younger audiences like Teen Now which is the audience my magazine is aimed towards. 22. WHO WOULD THE AUDIENCE BE FORYOUR MEDIA PRODUCT? Define my target audience in terms of age, social class, gender, ethnicity and psychographic profile. 23. WHO WOULD THE AUDIENCE BE FORYOUR MEDIA PRODUCT? The target audience for my magazine I feel is; Gender- Female (though it was meant to be for both). I feel that my magazine is more targeting the female gender now due to the artists I used in images were all female and articles in the magazine (on contents page) are more articles girls would like to read and enjoy. However the colour scheme used does not show that it is aimed at just girls and changing the stories and images used could make it appeal more to both. 24. WHO WOULD THE AUDIENCE BE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?I think it aims at the age range teens toearly twenties. I think this because theyoung artists that are used.I feel it appeals to the younger end ofthe group because of the competitionsand images. And the older end due to the big storieswith more detail and gossip about theartists/the industry. Also thecompetitions for concerts tickets. In terms of socio-economic groups thetarget audience for my magazine is E.This is as it is aiming at students(teenagers). This is shown by nothaving a high price. Also I think theprice range shows that it is aimedThe imagesmostly for middle class. 25. WHO WOULD THE AUDIENCE BE FORYOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?I feel in in terms of psychographicprofile my magazine is mainly targetingmainstreamers. I think this becausethese kinds of people follow the crowdand we want a large group of people towant to buy the magazine. Also theyare kinds of people that trust brandsand are young so will go with others.I feel however that my magazine couldbe targeting Aspirers too. As the peoplebuying the magazine could be aspiringto become an artist one day, even apop artist. They could be using themagazine as a may to find out more. 26. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOURAUDIENCE? What in my magazine tell us what my target audience is/is designed to appeal to them? 27. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOURAUDIENCE? Using younger people for the images, the artists shows that it is targeting a younger audience. Using competitions to make the reader want the magazine so they can enter. Competitions are usually used to address/attract younger people. 28. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOURAUDIENCE? The colours used shows that it is not trying to just appeal to girls. If I was I would have used pinks and purples. Using blue and yellow along with the red shows that the magazine is not only trying to just attract girls. The use of competition and it being for an instrument makes it appeal more towards boys.Colour scheme; Red, Blue andYellow. 29. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOURAUDIENCE? The images address the audience as the people are looking straight into the camera and therefore straight at the customer. The stories included help attract the audience to the magazine as they are stories they would want to read, gossip and information about the artists and industry and how to be like them. 30. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOURAUDIENCE?Writing in question andanswer form makes iteasier and quicker toread then if it waswritten in blocks. Thismakes it better for ayounger audience.Using images of the ofthe young artist andusing multiple imagescan show it is for ayounger audience asthey would like theimages more than largeamounts of text. 31. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OFCONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? What hardware and software have I used to plan my pages? How effective were they? What hardware and software have I used to construct mypages? How effective were it? 32. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OFCONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? I used a variety of dif ferent programmes to present the research Idid for the planning of my magazine. To design my magazine draf tshowever I only used pencil and paper.Images 33. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? Doing my draft design in pencil was effective because itmeant that I could change my idea easily. However there area few changes from the pencil drafts to final magazine asthey worked better changed. To make my drafts better if done again and to make it clearer tome what my final pages will look like I would do colour drafts too 34. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? The technology I used to create my magazine frontcover, contents page and double page spread were; a digitalcamera, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. 35. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?Using Photoshop I have learned to use even morefeatures and ways to edit my images and texts to makethem look better than I already had learn in my preliminarytask. 36. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?I used the effects listed on afew of the texts on my coverpage and contents page. Ialso used the effects on someimages/puffs.I used this Outer Glow effecton masthead Poptastic and Icopied this effect on to the titleContents so it went with themagazine. I havent used thisbefore and learned and foundhow to add these differenteffects while producing mymagazine. 37. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? The clone pattern tool I used to help edit my main cover image. As the image has a bad shadow on it and was making it harder to read text over it, I used the clone pattern tool to edit it out. I tried using other effects and makes to edit it out but I found this tool to be the most effective. this tool to get rid of the I also used wall joining in the background of the image. If I was to this again I would try to use one of the other tools if I had shadows as, though this was effective it was time consuming. 38. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? I used the stop healing tool to get rid of any blemishes on all the images I used on all the pages. I also used the Red Eye Tool to get rid of the red eyes the people had on the double page spread two shot and one used on the contents page. I had not used the red eye tool before and I had to use it carefully so that the eye colours did not spread out of the eyes. This tool was very effective. 39. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?I used the image editing tool onPhotoshop to edit the images for myother pages. For the image on my contents page Iedited; the levels, curves, exposureand brightness/contrast. I also usedChannel Mixer to change the effectof the image.I did all of these to make to pictureand of a better quality than it hadcome out. I did it so that the colourswould stand out on the image andto make it clear. 40. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?Using InDesign I found ways to add effects to the pagesand images/text that I hadnt done in Photoshop. 41. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OFCONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?While using InDesign I had to create new swatches of colour and I had to createthese and make sure they were the same exact colours used on Photoshop/thefront cover. This I had not done before but I wanted my colours to be exactly thesame so I did it here on my final magazine. I did it so the colour schemeflowed through the pages. 42. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUTTECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? For the background of my double page spread and contents page I wanted to create a new colour and then decided that I want to make a gradient effect. I had to create a new swatch for this. I also used this gradient effect on the text Poptastic across the bottoms of the pages. 43. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THISPRODUCT? I also used many of the tools and effects that I learned in my preliminary task. I used rectangle frame tool to input my images and then I used the fill frame proportionally tool so that the images filled the area I wanted it too without distorting it. These tools also helped me when I was resizing the images. 44. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIESFROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? Using the digital camera I used was easy and simple, makingit easy and quick to take the images I wanted for mymagazine.Though as the camera was not ata high quality it meant I had toedit them to get the effects Iwanted. This gave me the chanceto learn more editing skills. 45. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? How have I developed my skills and knowledge since I constructed my preliminary task? 46. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? I feel I have developed my skills and knowledge since thepreliminary task. I have learned more in the programs I have used; InDesignand Photoshop.- In the way I edit photos. Using different effects.- In the way I layout the text and images on the pages so thatit is clear and looks more like a magazine, than I feel mypreliminary task did.- In the way I added effects to the text to make it stand out. 47. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? From the covers I feel I have learned to use the most of the space I have and use it better. I used better fonts, effects, font size and colours to fill the cover. I learned that using an image with a simple/plain background is easier for putting text over the top. Also having a much closer image of the person fills up more of the page. 48. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? From the preliminary task I have learn how to use more of the space and fill the page without over crowding it. I learn how to fill blank areas of the page by using puffs. Also learned that I could use bigger fonts and make the images larger and they would still look in proportion. 49. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? I have learned more about magazines and their conventionsand what works best. I feel I have more knowledge about the magazine/musicmagazine industry after researching different publishers andmagazines for the planning of my magazine and alsowatching a video on NME and its history and finding outlots I didnt know. 50. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT? I have learnt to plan my work even better so I meet alldeadlines again. Learned that once again that I cant always stick to my planonce I start creating my pages in Photoshop/InDesign andthat I have to keep changing ideas throughout so I can get itto look its best. I feel my knowledge of the programs (Photoshop, InDesign) Iused is now stronger and I could help others with moreconfidents if they were using it for the first time. Overall I feel I have developed my skills and knowledge in all areas of creating and planning my magazine since doing the preliminary task. 51. MY FINAL MAGAZINE
