The government setup in America however was not set up based on Christianity. Thomas

Jefferson wrote an interpretation of the 1st Amendment to his January 1st, 1802 letter to the

Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association calling it a "wall of separation between church

and State." (http://www.nobeliefs.com/Tripoli.htm) Madison did the same when stating the

strong separation between the two. The Founding Fathers set up a nation where there would be

religious tolerance. They did not create a government revolving around their religious beliefs, for

they understood the escape some were making to find religious freedom. The founding fathers

were Deists. They believed in reason and

belief in a supreme deity who created the universe to operate solely by natural laws. The

supreme God of the Deists removed himself entirely from the universe after creating it.

They believed that he assumed no control over it, exerted no influence on natural

phenomena, and gave no supernatural revelation to man.

The Founding Fathers created our laws using logic and reason, not by following the orders of a

    higher power.
