ENTRANCE TEST - 2016
SUBJECT : ENGLISH CLASS : Grade 1
Explanatory Notes
The entrance test in English contributes to the assessment of a child in Reading for meaning, comprehension of stories, poems, instruction texts, information texts and Writing to express ideas and feelings. The test is based on the relevant sections of the National Curriculum Programme of Study for English, September 2014 Early Years foundation Stage Framework, Reading and Writing target skills.
Description of target skills focused
• use a pencil properly to write recognisable letters • knowledge of the alphabet - capital letters and small letters • awareness of lists, labels, rhyming words, and stories
(matching pictures and words, matching rhyming words, sequencing)
• ability to read for meaning, comprehend different texts • ability to write own name • ability to write labels (labelling pictures), simple words • awareness of what a sentence is • ability to write leaving space between words • ability to write recognisable letters, simple words, phrases
and numbers that a reader can understand • ability to use full stops at the end of a sentence
