Village Life, City Life

In reality, both city and country living has their own advantages and disadvantages. In village you are close to nature, people and less noise and pollution. However, in city, people get better education, entertainment, work and privacy. Here are the differences between city and village life.

Friends and Neighbours - In villages most people know one another. They will know when someone needs help, through neighbours. In city, people are often too busy. They do not have enough time to say hi to neighbours, to help or to be close with them.

Shopping - In villages, there are few shops; the shops will be closed early. Yet, shop owners will remember your name and help you to find the items you want to buy. In city, mega malls are built; workers come and accept your payment for things you buy, without talking with the customers.

1. Entertainment - Very few entertainments are in villages. You have to do activities such as taking a walk, sitting on the porch enjoying the fresh air and chatting with family or friend. Lots of entertainment can be found in cities, such as, movie theaters, parks and restaurants.

2. Education - Children growing up in villages do not have much access to education. Villages may not have enough children to create higher education institutions; these kids must go to cities to continue their educations. Cities have colleges and universities. Libraries and museums are available in cities.

3. Health and Safety- Cities have many hospitals and doctors. In a city, ambulances and fire trucks may take only few minutes to arrive at the scene. In villages, getting to a hospital in an emergency may take lot of time. In cities, when a crime happens, police arrive on the scene in few minutes and use latest technology to solve the crime.

4. Privacy - In villages there is less privacy, as neighbors often know what is going on each other's lives. In cities people live in apartments, terrace houses that are built for more privacy. Windows and doors are locked when they are not at home.

5. Work and Careers - Villages have smaller population than cities, so fewer jobs available. Living in the city, there are thousands of job choices for all walks of life.

Read the passage below and answer the following questions.

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers

and groundwater), very often by human activities. Water pollution occurs when chemicals or

substances are discharged directly or indirectly into water.

The main cause of water pollution includes sewage and wastewater from industrial,

agricultural and domestic households waste. We often dump garbage into rivers and ocean.

Besides, pesticides used for farms be collected by rainwater runoff and carried into streams or

rivers. Marine dumping is also another cause of it. Water pollution can also be caused by oil

spills.

Water pollution brings serious effects to all living being. Water pollution can kill large

numbers of fish, birds, and other animals. Pollution makes streams, lakes, and coastal waters

unpleasant to look at, to smell, and to swim in. Fish and shellfish caught from polluted waters

may be unsafe to eat. People who drink polluted water can become ill, develop cancers cells or

bear children with birth defects.

There are few solutions to control water pollution at home, first thing we can practice is

by using non-toxic soaps, detergents and cleaning products. We should also avoid using

chemical fertilizers and pesticides on your lawn and gardens. Always dispose of paints, motor

oil, gasoline, antifreeze and other harmful chemicals in accordance with your local laws and

safety regulations.
