Welcome to the Sugathdasa Stadium. You are watching the opening

ceremony of the sixth South Asian Federation Games. All the countries in

the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation are participating in

the games. The competitors from each country will parade round the track

before taking up their places in the middle of the grounds. The team from

Pakistan are passing the grandstand now followed by Sri Lanka, the hosts.

Where will they visit?

John likes the sea. He is interested in

underwater fishing and corals.

Sarah is interested in wildlife. She likes to

see elephants and other wild animals in

their natural habitat.

Angela and Dave are biology students.

They are interested in collecting

information about different kinds of

tropical plants and trees.

Amanda’s special interest is ancient

history. She is writing a book about the

ruins of ancient cities in Asia.

Sinharaja is the most important tropical rain

forest in Sri Lanka. There are many different

and rare varieties of trees and plants growing

there.

The beaches around Hikkaduwa are popular

tourist attractions. Hikkaduwa is well known for

its underwater coral gardens.
