Regents Permitts Add to Deforestation: Study

Forestry activists heave warned of a sharp increase in the national deforestation

rate if the government fails to deal with the overlapping permits issued for forest

concessions and industrial timber forest.

Greenomics Indonesias latest study found about 18.4 million hectares of forest

concession areas and forest production had mostly been occupied by plantation and mining

companies. Thanks to permits issued by regents.

It is an illegal practice. The regants have no rights to issue permits for plantation

companies to operate or occupy forest concessions and industrial area. Only the Forestry of

Ministry can do that, Greenomics National Coordinator Vanda Dewi told the Jakarta Post on

Monday.

The government has allocated a total of 60.91 million hectares for forest concession

or for production forests.With the overlapping permits, illegal occupation of the forest concession areas and

industrial forest will contribute more to the national deforestation rate than illegal logging

Twenty-one Killed in Road Accident

SAUDI ARABIA: Twenty-one people were killed when two vehicles collided on a

highway near the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Al-Riyadh newspaper said that the accident occurred on Friday when a vihicle

carryng 14 Yemenis and two Saudis tried to avoid a police checkpoint by going around it,

and rammed into an incoming car carrying five passengers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and

Sudan.

An Unlucky Day

One morning, i got up with the feeling that the day was going to be an unlucky onefor me. How right it was! I found that it was already 06:15 am.

I rushed into the bathroom. I didnt see the piece of soap lying on the floor. I

speeded on it and slipped, almost breaking my back in the process.

Then, I went into the dining room for my breakfast. I gulped down the tea without

realizing it was very hot. It burned my tongue. I spat it out and could not eat anything

because my tongue hurt. I got dressed and rushed to the bus stop. Unfortunately, I just

missed the bus. My heart sank and I knew that I would be late for school.

When I reached school, my name was taken down by the teacher. The teacher

scolded me for being late. To my humiliation, I was made to stand outside the class. I was so

upset by the incidents that I could not study properly. But worse was to come.

After school, I was on my way home when something hard hit me on the head.Someone had thrown a bag of fish bones out of the window and it landed on me! I was

boiling with rage but could do nothing. However, luckily for me, this only raised a small.

I managed to reach home safe and sound, and I didnt dare to go out again for the

rest of the day.

Thank you very mucg for giving me such a memorable time in Singapura. It was one of the

best holidays i have ever had.

I shall never forget the spectacular sight of your cuty i saw from Mount Fable that night. The

rollee-coaster ride, the stunts performed by the dolpins and the killer whale at the Sea

World were also exciting. I shal remember the thrill, of having been on one of the longest

rides, in the monorail, in Sentosa Island, for many years to come.

I have already missed the scruptious dishes your mother had prepared because we over

stayed in Sentosa. I also enjoyed various of seafood at the makeshift roadside stalls at the

Chinatown night market. Unfortunately, i dont eat the live snails! I couldnt help but squirm

at the sight of them! I also enjoyed our shopping trips. My family and friends agreed that the

souvenirs were valve for money, especially the silk scarves with pretty prints and the

attractive key chains.

My family and i would like to invite you to Jakarta during your next school vocation. I would

love to introduce you to many sights, sounds, and taste of our multicultural heritage.

With so much to see and enjoy in Jakarta, you will need to stay for at leat a week. We lookforward to seeing you.

A Helping Hand

I, Lita and Jessie were on our way to school. As we were crossing the road, we saw

an old woman carrying a big basket of friuts. The old woman looked like she was in pain. She

dropped her basket of fruits and squeatted down.

We ran towards her and asked, Are you all right? The old women could not reply.

She just shook her head. Ill can an ambulance, said Jessie. Then, she ran tu the public

telephone at a nearby coffee shop and called for an ambulance.

How the Water Cycle Works

Solar energy evaporates exposed water from seas, lakes, rivers and wet soil; the

majority of this evaporation takes place over the seas. Water is also released into the

Clouds form when air becomes saturated with water vapor. The two major types of

cloud formation are stratified or layered grey clouds called stratus and billowing white or

Precipitation as rain or hail ensures that water returns to Earths surface in a fresh

form. Some of this rain, however, falls into the seas and is not accessible to humans. Whenrain falls, it either washes downhill slopes or seeps underground; when snow and hail melts,

this water may also sink into the ground.

Rain fall also replenishes river water supplies, as does underground water. Snow fall

may consolidate into glaciers and ice sheets which, when they melt, release their water into

the ground, into stream or into the seas.

Almost everyone eats bread daily, especially for breakfast.

Bread making is not a complicated task. You must have an oven, water, sugar, salt,

flour and yeast. The basic igredients is flour comes from wheat. There are two kinds of flour,

which is the soft and the hard one.

Hard flour, made by Winter wheat, is better choice for making bread. Bread using

hard flour produces better texture and taste. Luke warm water is added to the flour to make

dough.

Yeast is a microscopic organism. The size may not be impressive but it is cappable of

producing carbon dioxide. It is also easy to use. Powered yeast needs only be disolved in

water to be used instantly. Yeast works bet in the presence of suger and warmth.

Besides, encouraging yeast to grow quickly in the dough, sugar is added to give flourto th berad. Salt is added for the same purpose, to make the berad taste nice. However, it

has the reverse effect on yeast, unlike sugar. The next igredient is oil; olive oil, corn oil,

peanut oil and butter. It is essential for making the bread tender. After mixing with all these

igredients, the flour is hand beaten before sent to the oven.
