develop leadership among education students insid

because these leaders will mold today's generation who

    are highly engaged in technology.

Overall, the seminar successfully ended with th

closing remarks of Ms. Karen Leron, the Vice-Presiden

of AUYEA. The organization is looking forward to or

NEWSCHILDRENS FATE IN THE HANDS OF THE MILF:

LIBERTY TO LEARN DIMINISH BY THE WAR IN MINDANAO

THE SITUATION IN SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES get complicated by

the existence of dozens of dierent armed groups, some advocat-

ing Islamic statehood due to the ongoing kidnappings in Minda-

    nao, Jonathan Head reports.

The on-going war in Mindanao aects many people in

Zamboanga City, especially the women and their children. Most of

them are victims of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), and

many were afraid to leave their houses. The war became horrible

as every hour goes by and many people died because of it.

Educational institutions in the area no longer existed be-

cause other children couldnt concentrate in studying anymore

due to the traumatic experiences they had encountered from the

hands of the MNLF ghters. Others were afraid to attend schools

because of the tendency that they become victims too. The eager

ness of the children to learn would collide because of it. Teachers

couldnt start regular classes because the other rooms were used

as evacuation centers. The war in Mindanao has become a hin-

drance to young children to study in school and live simple lives.

The nation continually pushes dierent protests against corruption just when the Php 10-billion Napoles

Right after the biggest protest The Million People March, Edsa Tayo at Forward March it seems that thegovernment was not aected after all. President Aquino is still in denial that his people are thieves and de-

    fending his hokus pokus corruption.

    EDITORIAL

THE NEW PROMULGATED POLICY NO PERMIT, NO

EXAM FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014, is contradic-tory to the Universitys taglines School for the socially

disadvantaged and Education with a heart.

The students were taken by surprise because of

the poor dissemination of information. The noticeshould have been formally announced or posted at the

beginning of the school year so that the students, as

well as their parents, are prepared by the least. Howev-

er, the policy was only announced by the professors aweek before the scheduled preliminary examinations.

The policy states that students who are unable

to pay their tuition fees before and during the prelimi-

nary examinations itself wont be allowed to take anexamination in all their subjects. Although, students

can ask for a temporary permit at the Finance Oce,

this temporary permit will only be allowed for the pre-

liminary period. Without this, students may take anexam but their grades wont be recorded unless a per-

mit is presented. Points have been raised for the imple-mentation of this policy. Among them is the fact that,

Adamson University is a Catholic private institution andstudents should therefore pay their tuition fees on

time. Secondly, there are students who take prelimi-

nary examinations without paying their tuition fees,

and then drop those subjects during the midterm peri-od. Due to this, the university loses their funds. These

reasons are believed to trigger the Administration to

    implement the said policy.

The policy is clear enough but it is not suitablefor everyone. Some students are not alarmed by this

because they have enough money to pay the fees, but

how about those who are nancially unstable? These

students, in reality, compromise a greater portion ofthe students body. Who suer the most from this ab-

rupt change in policies? Should we not consider those

students who rely on income that come only every end

of the month, say for example, those who depend o

funds from parents abroad? How else could he/she ge

hold of money to pay for fees on time?

As part of the receiving end of the No Permit

No Exam Policy, we strongly disagree to this seeming

ly unjust policy. As a matter of fact, lots of students disagree, too. They even gave their own opinions

reactions about this. One student said that Adamso

University is bound on Vincentian values which dictat

that this institution is a school for the poor. It is noethical to mandate this kind of policy and promulgat

improperly. Teachers dont need the permits but ra

ther, the answers on the examinations. Besides, th

policy has been abolished long ago and this should no

    exist anymore.

Education is a right not a privilege. Therefore

students should be allowed to take examinations wit

or without the permit. Money is not easy to nd, themust always think of that.

The Two Fat PigsA One-Syllable Story

    CORNER

One day, in a far far land, there lived two fat, pink pigs named Carm and Kat. These pigs love toeat cat food. They are the sole pigs in this world that live and like to eat cat food. They sing anddance under a tree of coke to give them drinks. The shout out loud in the midst of the woods on their

pink rough skins. And if they need the sun, they shake their butts off so that the sun would smile at

them. They were both glad to have these things that they do.

Days passed by, Carm got sick. Kat was so sad and did not know what to do. She cried night by

night and through that her pig friend die. She prayed to the gods of Pigs for Carm to be healed. The

night came and Carm said, Oink, oink to Kat. This is a sign that Carm has been healed by the gods

and when Kat prayed, all of it were heard by them. Soon, they both left the leand to see and learn a

Have you ever left or failed a subject which will cause you not to graduate on time? Never fear, for you

can always take an overload/simultaneous semester. So, what exactly is a overload/simultaneous se

mester? It is a privilege that allows a student to include or enroll one or more subject, although it is

one time opportunity for all students. The technicality of it is, you are allowed to stretch your unit limit. For ex

ample, the maximum amount of units a student can take is thirty, and the subjects you enroll only amount to

twenty-four, if the student les for an overload/simultaneous he/she will be given a chance to enroll for six more

units. As long as you dont have a lot of failing grades or your balance is duly paid, then you can be condent that

you will be granted this chance.

The rst thing you need to do is to write a letter addressed to the University Registrar, Ms. Alejandria

Chua, that indicates your request for permission to have an overload/simultaneous semester. You must have

completed application document that contains you

2x2 picture; written on the le are the subjects you de

document, you must go to your respective course win

After having the receipt signed, you will g
