WHY STUDY AT BOURNEMOUTH CITY COLLEGE?

Bournemouth City College was opened in 2007. The school is situated in the centre of Bournemouth in a traditional Victorian

building with few spacious classrooms, a student lounge with TV, PC’s, home google and a small school library with books, magazines and additional learning materials for students. The building is close to the local shops, cafes, banks and other facilities. Our academic team is highly qualified with recognised English teaching and degree level qualifications. All our teachers are friendly, highly skilled and experienced to deliver tuition in a friendly and professional way. Our courses are inspected and accredited by the British Council. The teachers use a wide variety of teaching materials to deliver high quality and interesting lessons. Our classrooms are equipped with SMART boards and the school has a free Wi-Fi internet connection. Students can use our online study library or online additional learning material to improve their language proficiency.

Bournemouth City College offers English language courses for all language levels,

from complete beginners to advanced students, and for people from all walks of life - business professionals to senior citizens. Our courses emphasise the individual students’ needs and requirements. We offer:

Our English courses are designed for those, who want to learn a new language or to develop a higher level of English language skill for further education, business and professional advancement.

Course duration is flexible and students can join us at any time. We run courses all year round and there is no minimum stay period.Students receive a certificate and a progress report after successful completion of the course.

BCC offers the following levels of language:

Level A1 – Beginners / Elementary

Level A2 – Pre-Intermediate

Level B1 – Intermediate

Level B2 – Upper Intermediate

Level C1 – Advanced

We offer high quality courses at a competitive prices. Our classes are mixed with international students from many different countries studying together.

Our lessons cover the areas of reading, listening, writing, speaking, grammar and vocabulary. We tailor a study plan to students’ needs and we monitor each student’s progress to help them succeed. Students use course books in the classroom and individual homework as part of the course.

GENERAL ENGLISH COURSES

INDIVIDUAL TUITION

Individual tuition is designed to fulfil a student’s individual needs, improve their language level and desired language goals. Lessons can be booked in addition

to group lessons or as an individual course.

There is no set time period for studying but as a guide 12 weeks of study on a standard general English course will see the average student improve by one level on the CEFR. Students studying on intensive courses generally see this

improvement a little quicker.

All students complete a placement test on the first day of their course to ensure that they are placed in the most appropriate class for their language level and needs. Teachers continually monitor the progress of each student and provide

regular feedback and individual tutorials.

BCC MAIN RESIDENCE

The BCC Main residence is situated opposite a park called Horseshoe Common which is only a 5 minute walk from the town centre and only 3 minutes from the BCC school. The building is on a main street surrounded by local restaurants.

The 3 storey building offers accommodation in a few flats. Each flat includes individual rooms, bathroom and WC. There are two fully equipped shared kitchens and one bigger open plan kitchen with dining/sitting area and TV. Each kitchen has a cooker & oven, microwaves, kettles, washing machines and tumble dryers.

Each student room is simply but

comfortably furnished with carpet,

upholstery, bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe,

writing table with chair and small fridge.

This residence has a few En-suite rooms

available (private shower & WC) and few

studios (private shower, WC and kitchenette).

NEWBURY & PEBBLES RESIDENCES

Both of these residences are situated in the Westcliffe area, just a 10 minute walk from town centre and beach and 15 minutes from the BCC school. The buildings are in a residential area.

Both residences have 21 En-suite rooms (private shower & WC). Each room is comfortably furnished with carpet, upholstery, bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe, table with chair and small fridge. Each room has its own TV. There are some studio apartments available with private shower, WC and kitchenette.

There is a shared kitchen in one residence. Washing machine and tumble dryer are also available for students to use.

GATE TOP COURT RESIDENCES

The residence is situated just opposite the BCC school and only a few minutes from the town centre, Bournemouth gardens and beach.

The residence offers accommodation in 9 flats with individual student rooms, equipped shared kitchen and shared bathrooms (bath, shower

room & WC). The kitchens have a sitting area and are fully equipped with cooker & oven, microwave, kettle and fridge. There are washing machines and tumble dryers in each flat.

LAMPTON RESIDENCE

The residence is situated in the area of Lower Gardens, a quiet Cul-de-sac area with beautiful views over the Bournemouth gardens and just a 10 minute walk to the town centre and BCC School.

Lampton residence is a 3 storey building with 26 En-suite rooms (private bath & WC). Each room is simply furnished with carpet, upholstery, bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe, writing desk with chair, TV and small fridge.

There is a shared kitchen with dining area in the building with basic utensils, cookers, ovens and microwaves.

TRIPS AND ACTIVITIES

Bournemouth City College offers a variety of creative and interactive activities, all designed to support your English language and have fun at the same time. We will offer you a

wide range of sports activities, creative games, quizzes, competitions and themed evenings.

Visits to local attractions will be arranged, such as Bournemouth Oceanarium, Russell-Cotes Museum, Lower or Upper Gardens.

DAY TRIPS

Students will enjoy a choice of full day trips to the famous Jurassic Coast and the Isle of Purbeck area. Durlston Country Park with Durlston Castle offers an unforgettable experience

of the past with Globe and Durlstone Caves. Swanage is famous for its steam railway and Stonehenge with its magnificent prehistoric monuments. Durdle Door with Lulworth Cove offers fantastic natural beauty and a unique experience to see this natural UNESCO World heritage Site

EXCURSION TO LONDON

We give students the chance to see attractions, historical sites and sightseeing of the UK’s capital city London. By hopping on The Original London Sightseeing Tour; the largest

and most popular open-top sightseeing red bus operator in the world, students will see this multicultural and vibrant city first hand.

Students have the opportunity to visit attractions such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Buckingham Palace with its changing of the Guards ceremony or just an experience of having lunch in the famous Hyde Park will give you that true sense of English Heritage.

EXCURSION TO OXFORD OR CAMBRIDGE

We give students the chance to spend a day in some of England’s most famous university cities such as Oxford and Cambridge. The cities offer a wide range of historic attractions

such as Cambridge University buildings with museum tour or Oxford with its famous Carfax Tower (city views) or the Botanic Garden on the River Cherwell. Excursions via the boat trips on the rivers with a picnic at the riverside are the most popular ones.
