In the United Kingdom (UK) there are broadly two main categories of newspaper.

The tabloids – tend to focus on less serious content, especially celebrities, sports and sensationalist crime stories. These newspapers are also called “red top” papers because of the colour under their main title.

The newspapers associated with higher- quality journalism are called “broadsheets” because traditionally they used a larger format. They are often referred to as “quality newspapers”.

Vocabulary:reporter (n) -

a person whose job isto discover information about news events and describe them for a newspaper or magazine or for radio or television;

the press (n)- newspapers and magazines, and those parts of television and radio that broadcast news, or reporters and photographers who work for them;

headline (n) - a line of words printed in large letters as the title of a story in a newspaper, or the main points of the news that are broadcast on television or radio;

celebrity (n) -someone who is famous, especially in the entertainment business;

scandal (n) - an action or event that shocks people and makes them feel disapproval;
