FEATURES

Application — Lennox CB17 and CBH17 model blower-coil-filter units provide installation versatility and maximum effi-ciency in cooling performance, air handling and filtering incooling or heat pump applications. Units are available in twomodel styles, CB17 series with up-flo supply air discharge orCBH17 series with horizontal supply air discharge. The unitsare equipped with dual circuit evaporator coils, this makesthem suitable for application with Lennox HS17 remotecondensing units or HP17 heat pump outdoor units. Each in-door coil circuit has a separate expansion valve and distribu-tion system for two stage capacity control during coolingcycles. Blower coil units are shipped factory assembled readyto install. Blower drives are shipped separately and must beordered extra. See condensing unit bulletins (section SpiltSystem Condensing Units) or heat pump outdoor units (sec-tion Split System — Heat Pump Units) for heating-cooling ef-ficiencies and capacities.

Completely Tested — Blower coil units are thoroughly testedwith matching outdoor units in the Lennox Research Labora-tory environmental test room which meet American Societyof Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers(ASHRAE) Standard 37 requirements. The rating test condi-tions are those included in Air-Conditioning and Refrigera-tion Institute (ARI) Standard test conditions while operatingat rated voltage and air volumes. Units and components with-in are bonded for grounding to meet safety standards forservicing required by Underwriter’s Laboratories (U.L.) andthe International Electrotechnical Commission (I.E.C.). Blow-er performance data is from actual unit tests conducted in theLennox air test chamber.

Cabinet — Cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge galvanizedsteel. A five station metal wash preparation assures a perfectbonding surface for the finish coat of baked-on enamel. Cabi-net is completely lined with thick fiberglass insulation result-ing in quiet and efficient operation due to the excellent sounddeadening and insulating qualities of fiberglass. Large re-movable panels are provided for complete service access.Electrical inlets are conveniently located in the cabinet.

Drain Pan — Deep, corrosion resistant drain pan isconstructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel. Equipped withtwin drain connections on both sides of cabinet as addedprotection from overflow. Dual galvanized pipe drain outletsextend outside the cabinet for ease of connection.

Belt Drive Blowers — CB17/CBH17-95V models are equippedwith a single blower, CB17/CBH17-135V, -185V & 275V modelshave dual blowers. Centrifugal belt driven blowers deliverlarge air volumes quietly and with low power consumption.Blower wheels are heavy duty, with forward curved bladesand double inlet. Wheels are statically and dynamically bal-anced to eliminate vibration and designed to give maximumair delivery. Bearings are heavy duty, self aligning, perma-nently sealed and lubricated. All moving parts (blowerwheels, drives and motor) are mounted on a rugged frame,resiliently mounted and isolated from the rest of the cabinet.Motor mounting frame allows simple belt adjustment andmotor mounting. Adjustable motor pulley provides variablespeed adjustments. A choice of motor outputs and drives areavailable and must be ordered extra. See drive kit table.

Dual Circuit Copper Tube Coil — Extra large surface area ofLennox designed coil provides maximum cooling efficiency,excellent heat transfer and low air resistance. Coil is face splitwith separate circuits, each circuit has its separate expansionvalve. Precise circuiting gives uniform refrigerant distribu-tion. Lennox fabricated coil is constructed of precisely spacedripple-edged aluminum fins fitted to durable seamless cop-per tubes. Fins are strengthened to resist bending and areequipped with collars that grip tubing for maximum contactarea. Flared tubing connections and silver soldering providetight, leakproof joints. Long life copper tubing is corrosion-re-sistant and easy to field service. Coil is thoroughly factorytested under high pressure to insure leakproof construction.

Expansion Valve — Factory installed and piped. Dual cir-cuited coils have two expansion valves, one for each coil sec-tion. Valves are sized for best performance.

Refrigerant Piping Connections — Refrigerant line inlets areprovided on both sides of the cabinet. Refrigerant lines re-quire sweat connections and are made internal to the cabinet.

Air Filters — 1 inch (25 mm) thick throwaway fiberglass mediafilters are furnished as standard. Filter rack is adjustable to ac-commodate up to two inch (51 mm) thick throwaway or clean-able optional filters. Filter rack design permits quick and easyremoval of filters for servicing.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES (Must Be Ordered Extra)

EMD17M Series Economizer Damper Section (Optional) —Factory assembled and wired economizer dampers and con-trols are available for field installation. Heavy gauge steelcabinet has a baked-on enamel finish and is completely insu-lated with thick matte faced fiberglass insulation. Large re-movable panels on both sides of cabinet provide completeservice access. Mounting flanges provide ease of connectionto unit. Flanges on outdoor air opening and return air openingpermit easy duct connection. Economizer has mechanicallylinked outdoor air and recirculated air dampers. Formeddampers rotate smoothly in nylon bearings. Outdoor airdampers are reinforced and gasketed for tight seal and quietoperation. Damper linkage and shafts are plated. The posi-tioning of the dampers is accomplished by a 24 volt fully mod-ulating electronic spring return damper motor with adjust-able minimum position potentiometer and controlled by theroom thermostat, adjustable mixed air sensor and adjustableenthalpy control. The enthalpy control allows 0 to 100% out-door air to be used for ”free cooling” when outdoor tempera-ture and humidity are acceptable.

Differential Enthalpy Control (Optional For EMD17M-95 andEMD17M-135 only) — A solid-state return air enthalpy sensoris available to be used with the outdoor air enthalpy control todetermine which air has the lowest enthalpy. The air with thelowest enthalpy will be selected. Return air enthalpy sensor(54G44) field installs in the economizer damper section andmust be ordered extra.

Heat Pump Check Valve Kit (Optional) — Field installed kitcontains check valves with connecting tubing, sweat connec-tions. Kit must be ordered extra. See Specifications Table.

CBH17 Suspension Kits (Optional For CBH17-95V &CBH17-135V only) — Provides support of units in sus-pended horizontal applications. Kit consists of 2 angle ironchannels with holes at each end. CBH17-95V usesLB-50866CA (44F93), 60 inches (1.5 m) long, andCBH17-135V uses LB-50866CB (44F94), 72 inches (1.8 m)long. Kits are not available for the CBH17-185V &CBH17-275V models and must be field provided.

EH17 Series Electric Heat (Optional) — Furnished in a sepa-rate add-on matching cabinet. Bolts, nuts and washers are fur-nished to secure cabinets together. Holes are pre-punched.Cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with abaked-on enamel finish. Completely insulated with thick fiber-glass insulation. Removable panel permits service access.Electrical inlet provides wiring entry. Factory installed electricheaters are available in several sizes, see electric heat datatable. Helix wound nichrome heating elements are exposeddirectly in the air stream resulting in instant heat transfer, low-er coil temperatures and long service life. Elements are accu-rately located and insulated from the heavy gauge steel sup-port frame by high quality insulators. Time delays bring theelements on and off the line in sequence and equal incre-ments in response to demand with a time delay between eachelement. Elements are equipped with individual limit controlsproviding positive protection in case of excessive overheat-ing. Heaters may be two stage controlled with each stage be-ing energized only when required. Heaters must be orderedextra. Sub-fusing, contactors, control relays, 24 volt trans-former, terminal block and blower motor contactor are fur-nished as standard equipment.

HW17 Series Hot Water Heat (Optional) — Furnished in a sep-arate add-on matching cabinet. Bolts, nuts and washers arefurnished to secure cabinets together. Holes are pre-punched. Cabinet is constructed of heavy gauge galvanizedsteel with a baked-on enamel paint finish. Completely insu-lated with thick matte faced fiberglass insulation. Removablepanel permits service access. Piping inlets are furnished inboth sides of cabinet. Factory installed Lennox designed andbuilt coil has large face area, excellent heat transfer and lowair resistance. Constructed of precisely spaced ripple-edgedaluminum fins fitted to durable copper tubes. Fins areequipped with collars that grip tubing for maximum contactarea. Flared shoulder tubing connections and silver solderingprovide tight, leakproof joints. Long life copper tubing is easyto field service. Coil is thoroughly factory tested under highpressure to insure leakproof construction. Must be orderedextra. Valves and pumps must be furnished by installer.

Outdoor Thermostat (Optional) — An outdoor thermostatcan be used to lock out some of the heating elements on unitswhere two stage control is applicable. Outdoor thermostatmaintains the heating load on the low power input as long aspossible before allowing the full power load to come on theline. Thermostat LB-29740BA (56A87) and mounting boxM-1595 (31461) must be ordered extra.

SPG17 and SPGH17 Supply Air Plenum & Grille (Optional) —Constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with a baked-onenamel paint finish. Completely lined with thick matte facedfiberglass insulation. Equipped with anodized aluminumgrille with double deflection and four-way directional controlin vertical and horizontal planes for precise control of dis-charge air. Bolts, nuts and washers are furnished to secureplenum to cabinet. Must be ordered extra.

”00” Spacer Cabinets (Optional) — Matching ”00” emptyspacer cabinets give additional height required for plenumand grille in up-flo store cooler applications and providesspacing between unit and plenum and grille in horizontalinstallations not using an electric heat or hot water heat cabi-net. Constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with abaked-on enamel paint finish. Completely lined with thickmatte faced fiberglass insulation. Must be ordered extra.

RG17 Return Air Grille (Optional) — Anodized aluminumgrille field installs in return air opening of blower-coil unit.Must be ordered extra.

General — Furnish and install a blower-coil-filter unit. The unit shallbe a standard product of a firm regularly engaged in the manufactureof heating-cooling equipment.
