Engel’s World Famous Sawafuji Swing MotorAll Engel fridge-freezers are powered by the unique Sawafuji Swing Motor. Japanese technology at its best, the Sawafuji Swing Motor has only one moving part. The piston connects to an electro -dynamic device which is powered by the use of magnetic fields. This technology means no need for bearings, cranks or con-rods; and less moving parts means less chance of failure. The Motor does not need to perform a full stroke on start up unlike many rotary type compressors; meaning it doesn’t have a high start up current draw. Low friction loss adds to its efficiency. The Motor operates at 30 degree angles and on rough corrugated tracks without losing any efficiency, making it the most effective choice of motor for Engel.

Engel has the unique super efficient Sawafuji swing motor, with only one moving part, making it simply the most efficient motor available. The motor is self lubricating, works at 100% efficiency even at an angle of 30 degrees, and will keep running even as low as 10 volts.

An Engel is built strong, tough and made to last. The solid steel cabinet means the Engel can handle the knocks and bumps of off-road driving, plus you know it’s not going to warp or twist in the Aussie heat.

Efficiency is also about the Engel’s lowest maximum power draw. Don’t be fooled by those who quote averages and figures that are false. The 40 litre Engel has a maximum power draw when the motor is cycling on of less than 2.6 amps. No other brand can match this.

Simple and easy to operate controls. No fancy bells and whistles but a single dial knob to select the desired temperature. And now, even simpler with an easy to set digital control!

Pat Callinan’s Favourite Australian DestinationsQLD – Awinya Creek, Fraser Island

Everyone will tell you to race up the east coast of Fraser Island and on to Lake McKenzie. And while this is a great idea, it’s not ideal if you really want to get away from it all. So do as I do, and head towards the west coast. At Awinya Creek, you’ll find sheltered campsites and glassy waters – perfect for a morning dip. Just be careful as the creek crossings here are tidal, so if it’s too deep to walk, then it’s definitely too deep to drive.

NSW – Dingo Dell Blue Mountains

Some campsites just have that ‘feel’, and Dingo Dell has that for me. It’s a deep dive down some mountains and across the Kowmung River, out near Kananga Walls. On the way, you can stop in at Jenolan Caves – one of the best cave systems in Australia.

Dingo Dell has a nice cool creek flowing by, plenty of wallabies and button grass, and not much wind as you’re tucked down in the valley. All-in-all, a great campsite.

VICTORIA – Dargo, Victorian High Country

Don’t have a serious 4X4? Don’t stress. Steer your bonnet on the bitumen towards Dargo Hotel, and after consuming one of their hearty pub feasts, you can roll out your swag out the back. It’s a free camp, provided you grab a meal at the hotel. Here you’ll camp under the willows and by the murmuring Dargo River. Just keep an eye on the clouds, ‘cause she’s known to flood when the conditions are right.

WA - Ningaloo Station, Coral Coast

Not too far off the Minilya Exmouth Road, sits one of my favourite camps in Australia. Ningaloo Station gets a prime view of Ningaloo Reef, one of the longest fringing coral reefs in the world. It’s literally camp, beach then coral. You can snorkel around the coral reef straight off the beach, or if you’re a bit more adventurous swim with the Whale Sharks – the biggest fish in the sea. It’s one cracking spot.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA – Bendelby Ranges

You’ve heard of the Flinders Ranges, but the Bendelby Ranges is its awesome little brother. Less touristy, killer tracks and great camps. Oh, and you can see the Flinders from the top of the Bendelby Ranges. If you just want a nice camp, stroll up their dirt road, and they’ll direct you to a nice spot (firewood is included). But if it’s a challenge you’re after, head over to Billy Goats or Pat’s Peak (named after this nut bag, who was the first to drive it). Either way, this is one slice of SA where you’ll want to stay.

The long running TV fishing program Hook, Line and Sinker is back in production for another season and hosts Nick Duigan and Andrew Hart have their Engel’s powered up and ready to roll as they hit the road in search of Australia’s favourite fish to catch.

Fresh from their lap of Australia, which took the best part of two years to complete and involved towing a 7.8 Bar Crusher the whole way around the country, Nick and Andrew are going back to basics in 2020, taking viewers on a journey of ‘how to’ catch a range of different Aussie fish. Everything from Murray Cod & Barramundi to Flathead and Bream.

This season will involve hooking up a new 670 Bar Crusher BR to an Isuzu MU-X and meeting gun fisho’s from across Australia to learn all the tips and tricks needed to catch a feed. And of course Hook, Line and Sinker wouldn’t be the same without a range of boats and in 2020 the plans are for more boating content than ever before. This will include calculating carbon credits by entering the world of sail power, throwing that all out the window with the purchase of a fuel hungry 23 foot Shark Cat and even a mid life crisis as the pair go high speed on the newest releases from Yamaha!

Nick and Andrew have used Engel’s in both their boats and their cars for the past half a dozen years, and couldn’t imagine undertaking a fishing adventure without the convenience of cold drinks and the ability to keep their catch fresh and even frozen for days and even weeks while on the road.

Hook, Line and Sinker will air on 7mate from July.

Ronny Dahl gets to live the life many others can only dream about! Getting offroad in his 79 Series, camping wherever he decides to stop, and capturing the magnificent Australian outback on film and in images for his YouTube and social media channels.

Ronny is well known for his YouTube channel, and has more than a quarter million subscribers across Australia and the USA.

Ronny’s channel is all about 4x4 off-road camping and adventures; and Ronny says it’s not just about watching what he does, but it’s also handy tips for off-roading, overlanding and 4 wheeling in any situation. Ronny’s “how-to” videos are all basics such as how to lower your tyres and why; how to recover a vehicle safely, how to fit out your vehicle; and he’s spent time getting to know other people and sharing their vehicles and fit outs - which is what has made him a household name among 4wdrivers.

His channel follows his adventures to some of Australia’s most remote locations, and follows the stories of where he went, how he got there, what he did there and what gear he took. And one item that Ronny has never left behind on his trips is his Engel fridge! The Combi 40l Engel being his absolute favourite.

“I’ve been using Engel fridges for quite a few years now. Last year I upgraded to the new MT-V series combi which I have to say looks amazing on the back of my truck!” Ronny said.

“When you’re travelling remote areas and you’re off the grid for days and weeks at a time, you have to know that the gear you have with you is reliable.”

“My Engels have never let me down! A cold beverage at my favourite campsite or ice cold ice creams for the kids at a remote beach just adds to the perfect moment” Ronny said.

Whether he’s travelling the Canning Stock Route and needs a cool beer at the end of the day, or he’s fishing off the coast at Bremer Bay and wants to store his catch, Ronny will always have his Engel to back him up.

Castrol Racing Driver, Kelly Racing Team Owner and Engel Ambassador

Rick Kelly

Rick Kelly has tasted success at the highest level in Supercars – as both a driver and team owner.

The now Ford Mustang driver won the 2006 Supercars Championship, to go with back-to-back Bathurst 1000 victories with Greg Murphy in ’03 and ’04.

Running his own team with older brother Todd, Rick is hoping to not only take his squad to the top this year, but bring his own racing fortunes back to the forefront.

The Kelly Racing team spent the summer break building two Ford Mustangs for Rick and his team mate making them strong contenders for the 2020 Supercars season.

As someone that enjoys the outdoors and relies on the best equipment, Rick is very proud to be an Engel ambassador. Rick uses his Engel fridge whilst camping with his family, but also has one in the team transporters to maintain optimal temperature of his professional sporting supplements.

Rick has been using the Engel products for many years now and has had many favourites however his most valued Engel product is his 40lt Chest Fridge. Rick is a regular camper and tries to get away most weekends when he is not at a race event. His favourite destination is Howqua River at the base of Mount Buller however anywhere he can relax around a camp fire will make him happy.

Pat and EngelPat Callinan a.k.a ‘Mr 4X4’ has had a long history with Engel. He fondly remembers growing up fishing with his old man on the banks of the Barwon River near Brewarrina, at the headwaters of the Darling River. And while there were never many fish caught, the cold Rice’s soft drinks served from the Engel and the associated memories were sweet indeed.

Later on, as Pat chased a career as a 4X4 magazine journalist and editor, it was rare that an Engel wasn’t part of the journey: “The simplicity of design and reliability was what I really cherished with the Engel’s. Your battery would always seem to have plenty of life left ‘cause they chewed so little power, even after camping out in the bush for a few days. And you couldn’t kill it with a stick. When I got home, I used to drag it straight out of the 4X4 and plug it into 240 in my office. Sitting there, it reminded me of the bush, and worked as a bloody good bar fridge.”

Pat reckons: “You buy quality gear like Engel, because at the end of the day, it’s about the adventure, not the gear you take. Of course, if you take the right gear, you can concentrate on the adventure, and not the gear. Pretty simple, really!”

Pat’s son Bill has the same passion for adventure off-the-beaten-track, and he loves nothing more than chucking the Engel in the back of his ute and burning diesel through the Blue Mountains and NSW Barrington Tops. But unlike his old man who likes to keep the beers cold, he’s keeping the Canadian Club’s chilled.
