MOBILE RESPONSIVE SITES:What’s All The Fuss?

CAN’T THEY JUST HAVE A LOOK AT HOME?More than 87% of smartphone users search the web on the go. This means a computer screen is far from reach, instead they have to rely on the small screen in front of them. A mobile responsive website can cater to this smaller size and limited resolution. Whereas an unresponsive site will be squashed into the space provided and requires users to scroll all over the place just to view the whole site.

GIVE IT TO ME NOW!Mobile usage is complimentary to the fast paced lifestyles we now live and as technology advances, the potential for ‘buy on the go’ is becoming a much sought after opportunity for businesses and consumers. We all want to find what we are looking for right away and as easily as possible. A mobile responsive website offers customers this opportunity; they can click, read and buy whilst continuing with their busy day.

WILL THIS IMPROVE MY SALES FIGURES?Just as a well designed website attracts customers, so does a mobile friendly site. Nearly 1 in 5 visits to a mobile responsive site result in an immediate call to that business. Anyone hoping for a quick, easy search result whilst searching on the go is likely to respond well to a site that is easy to navigate with information and contact details right in front of them.

The best part is, creating a mobile responsive site is really quite simple: You can create your own! Here’s how in 5 simple steps:

1. Go to www.dudamobile.co.uk2. Type in your website address and let

Duda work it’s magic.3. Enter the editor area and style away

with a few simple clicks.4. Set up a free account.5. Publish your mobile version. Ta Dah!

Over 90% of the world’s population own a mobile phone, does your website cater to their needs? Does it need to?

The clear answer is yes! Over 50% of web searches come from a web-enabled device, whether that be a tablet or smart phone. But many of these devices fail to show off your website features and sleek images quite as well as they appear on a computer screen.

“Over 50% of web searches

are from a mobile device”

BUSINESS INSIGHTSHave you ever wondered what other people in business think, what advice do they get and where from? Well we’re a bit nosey too and wanted to know the answer so we created a survey to find out! You may remember seeing it...We asked if Britain had embraced it’s entrepreneurial spirit? The discission was a unanimous yes but heres the nitty gritty on Business Development.

THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT!

SOME APP FACTS TO GET YOU STARTED:

There are over 1 million apps in the App store and Google Play store.

Over 60 billion apps have been downloaded in the App store and over 50 billion in the Google Play store.

In 2012 over 1.2 million people worldwide were using apps on their mobile devices, this number is expected to grow to around 4.4 million by the end of 2017.

Most people only use around 6-10 apps out of those they download and the millions available to them!

Here is our review of the best four apps available to help with time management, productivity and generally making life easier:

1DropboxWhat does it do?

Dropbox is a form of cloud storage that let’s you share and sync files between computers, phones and

tablets by adding them to a secure online folder. Your documents are kept private but can be shared between friends or colleagues as if you were all using one device. You can control who sees what and who can edit which files.

It is available on all Apple and Windows devices as well as most smart phones and android devices.

Why is it so great?Even if your computer crashes or you drop your phone in a pond your files will be secure and viewable on another device or restored within minutes.

It’s simple, straightforward and secure, not to mention free! Best of all, it makes that moment your computer crashes and all is gone much less stressful! Over 200 million people around the world rely on Dropbox, so it must be doing something right!

2 Remember the milkWhat does it do?

Let’s you create task lists that include not only details on the task to be done but also

a time and location (which can be synced with Google maps) and then enables you to organise the lists using specific tags. Each list can be postponed as many times as you like (although RTM will remind you how many times you’ve postponed each task).

It is available on all Apple and Windows devices as well as most smart phones and android devices.

Why is it so great? You can synchronize tasks between devices (you will have to pay if you wish to do this more than once a day) and integrate your tasks with services like Microsoft Outlook and Gmail.

And, if you want to be super organised, you can sync your Evernote notes and tasks with your RTM tasks. Surely you won’t forget them then!

3Paypal HereWhat does it do?

Paypal is already a huge online payment system used by online auctions, stores and

even website designers.

Paypal Here adapts Paypal’s online capabilities to be used by businesses accepting face-to-face payments. Each business can download the app then buy the Paypal card reader (costs £99) and begin accepting payments through Paypal or by card! Paypal do add a 2.75% charge for their service, but I’m sure many will be willing to pay this in order to take advantage of the simplicity it offers.

It is available on all Apple and Windows devices as well as most smart phones and android devices.

Why is it so great?Small businesses can’t or don’t always own card readers and so can only accept cash payments. This can be a problem for some businesses when customers do not have enough cash on them or do not wish to pay using cash. Paypal Here means that such businesses can accept payment by card or through Paypal. It can even issue invoices!

4 EvernoteWhat does it do?

Evernote is a note taking and task listing application. It lets you access your notes across all your devices and update from

anywhere. The application is free although it has a monthly usage limit (additional usage requires payment). You can:• Add photos• Create to do lists and check off those you

complete• Attach files using drag and drop• Record audio• Save web pages• Set a Reminder• Create a checklist• Share notes on social media

It is available on all Apple and Windows devices, Blackberry and some android devices.

Why is it so great? It lets you sync your notes between devices and send yourself reminders to complete tasks via a badge on your mobile, an email or an in app notification. Always helpful for the more forgetful amongst us!

Also, searching for an old note is simple, even if you can’t remember exactly what it was called. Just type in a fact or keyword you had mentioned within it and all notes with that word in will pop up.

Over 90 million people worldwide use Evernote, it is a very successful application.

SHOWCASELOGO-DESIGN

TWO VALLEYS PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

We were tasked with designing a logo for a new maintenance company based in Staffordshire. The business owner wanted their

branding to reflect them as tradesmen you can trust.

The idea for the logo came from the company name. We wanted to showcase the two valleys and surrounding village areas whilst

including the tools of the trade.

The tick shaped valley was also intentional and mirrors the tick of a good job done!

SHOWCASEWEB-DESIGNSuccessful completion of the logo gave us a clear vision for the online branding. Two Valleys wanted to steer clear of cheesy photographs and we don’t blame them! Instead we continued with the valley drawings and created a matching website footer.

The website also includes a portfolio of high quality photographs which showcase their previous projects and all their relevant skills.

The website also benefitted from a matching mobile version and if you’ve read our earlier article you will understand its importance!

THIS ISSUE: FACEBOOK ADVERTISINGFacebook is used by over a billion people, more than half of whom visit the site daily. It is on three out of four smartphones and it’s adverts reach around 90% of their intended audience, much higher than the meagre 27% for most online advertising.

WHO WILL SEE MY ADS?Facebook adverts can help you reach your intended audience with ease, you can choose to target people by their :

• Location• Age• Gender• Connection to your page (eg. Those

who like it already or their friends)• Specific interests• Education or work• General category (eg. Parents, singles,

specific job sectors) The ads are then shown to your specific choice of audience through their Facebook profile on the right side of the screen or in their news feed.

Facebook tells us that the most successful ads are those that are well targeted with great content. These are more likely to get likes, comments and shares (all of which help to

promote your page and business without you having to do a thing!)

WHAT SHOULD I ADVERTISE?You can advertise your Facebook page, encouraging people to view it and like it. This will then appear in their friend’s news feeds and on their list of likes, hopefully promoting your page further and motivating more and more people to view and like your page. This is great for raising brand awareness!

You can also promote your page by clicking ‘boost post’ when posting something new. Facebook suggest promoting exciting and engaging posts that are more likely to catch a user’s eye. This is best for promoting special events or offers.

Or, choose to create a Facebook offer to advertise a discount you may have. Your chosen audience will see a ‘Get offer’ button and be encouraged to click and claim. They can then share this offer with friends and the discount will reach a wider audience. This is great for discounts and promotions and for increasing customer numbers and sales.

Facebook’s usage is huge! Wasting the opportunity to get in contact with so many potential customers would be crazy!
