Beginning/Intermediate PotteryMonday 6:30-9 July 6 - August 3CER-22 TBA Class Fee: $40This 6-week class is intended for students with some prior throwing experience on the wheel. Students will work toward improving their throwing techniques and end product. Focus will be on: Mastering the cylinder (setup, gaining height, minimizing loss and shaping), making great bowls (setup, how to pull, creating a parabolic curve and final shaping), faceted vessels (method and tools), and cups and handles (choosing the best shape, size, type of handle and then putting it all together). Students purchase clay from the Craft Center; your instructor will advise you of your options. Prerequisite: Students should have some prior clay & wheel experience.

Pottery Fundamentals and MoreTuesdays 7-9:30 July 7 - August 25 CER-23 Chip Hand Class Fee: $48Explore creative ways to work with clay….Learn the basic techniques of wheel throwing and some hand building in this 8-week class. These different yet complementary methods can be separate or incorporated to create many pieces. Class & projects will be catered to beginner or intermediate level. Students purchase clay from the Craft Center; your instructor will advise you of your options.

Wheel Doctor in the House Wednesday 6:30-9:30 July 8, 15 & 22 CER-24 Eric Moran Class Fee: $28A short 3- session primer for intermediate and advanced potters. Are you struggling with certain forms or shapes? Would you like extra help in developing throwing techniques? This workshop will provide coaching on wheel techniques you find challenging like: mastering the cylinder, centering large amounts of clay, throwing lids, making great bowls, faceted vessels, cups and handles, pulling necks on bottles, etc.. Students purchase clay from the Craft Center; your instructor will advise you of your options. Prerequisite: Students should have prior clay & wheel experience.

HAND BUILDING EXTRAORDINAIRE! Thursdays 7-9:30 August 6 - August 27 CER-26 Rachel Kirby Class Fee: $28Utilize an ancient pottery making technique, hand building, in a contemporary, relaxing, fun & creative way. Make larger pieces faster than wheel throwing! Together we’ll explore pinch, slab, coil and slump methods and some new techniques such as lino printing to make work that allows for your personality to shine through your work. Explore ceramic sculpture, both small and large. Step out of the box and try something hands-on with a guarantee of success! Students will leave the class with 5-6 pieces of work including mugs, bowls, boxes and sculpture. All levels welcome.

Summer Raku RETURNS! Dates & Times to be Posted CER-31 Chip Hand Session Fee: $15 (includes gas & special glazes)Members with PRIOR CLAY EXPERIENCE can sign up to participate in this exciting and beautiful ancient Japanese firing technique known as Raku. For each session, come prepared with bisque ware that you have GLAZED IN ADVANCE for the special firing. The instructor will contact participants in advance to provide guidelines for firing preparation and participation. Participants must be present at the group event firing and assist with set up & break down Students will wear appropriate, safe clothing & closed toed shoes. Beginner & intermediate level welcome! Classes are small so the instructor can provide individual help. A wood shop safety checkout is provided in the first class. Students furnish materials and most tools are provided. No prior experience required. Intermediate level students can work on project suited to their skill level and receive guidance from a master furniture builder.

Garden/Patio Furniture Wednesday 7- 9:30 July 8 - August 19WCR-22 Glenn Sweet Class Fee: $48Since we live in the land of cedar, this class will focus on taking advantage of this weather resistant locally grown wood to build durable patio or garden furniture. Adirondack chairs, garden bench or planter boxes are just a few of the project possibilities. Students are encouraged to come up with a project idea that best suits their need and skill level. Classes are small to provide ample teacher/student help. Hardware fasteners will be used to join this outdoor furniture but traditional joinery techniques can be explored by the more daring intermediate woodworker. Students furnish materials and most tools are provided. No prior experience necessary...class designed with fun in mind

Cold-Water Bucket Dyeing Two sessions Offered Saturday 11-4 FBR-23A Kirsten Rana Gunderson July 11 ORFBR-23B Kirsten Rana Gunderson August 8Member Class Fee: $40 / Non-Member Class Fee: $72 (Fees include bandana & dyes)In this class, we’ll cover the basics of dyeing cotton and other plant-based fibers using fiber-reactive dyes. Discover the color and patterns possible with ombré dyeing, resist binding, and tweaking the steps in the dye process. Class includes two sewn cotton bandanas, and protective dye equipment. Additional bandanas and other dyeables available, including weaving and knitting yarn. Contact instructor prior to class to arrange.

Exploring Silk Coloring Saturday & Sunday 11-4:30 July 25 & 26FBR-25 Christel Sanders (Fees include 1 silk scarf)Member Class Fee: $40 / Non- Member Class Fee: $52Use vibrant colorful dyes to create beautiful, wearable art! Students will be shown samples and will then choose one of the following techniques: Arashi Shibori, Gutta Resist, Tie dye or Free Style. They will be guided in their selected technique as they create their unique handcrafted scarf. Fee includes one silk scarf (59 x 10” or 72 x 14” depending upon technique selected) and materials to complete it.

Yarn Skein Painting Two sessions Offered Saturdays and Sundays 1-3:30 FBR-24A Kirsten Rana Gunderson July 18 & 19 ORFBR-24B Kirsten Rana Gunderson August 15 & 16Member Class Fee: $18 / Non-Member Class Fee: $30For cotton and other plant-based fibers using fiber-reactive dyes. Apply concentrated dye colors with squeeze bottles and brushes to achieve random patterns for knitting or weaving. This class provides an introduction to techniques that will be used in future warp painting classes. Pay $18 materials fee to Instructor in the first class, this includes 8 oz. skein of organic heavy-worsted cotton yarn (approx. 320 yards) and protective dye equipment. Beginning WeavingWednesdays 6:30-9 July 8 – August 26FB-20 Kirsten Rana Gunderson Class Fee: $48Learn the basics of hand weaving by creating a beautiful scarf or tea towel on one of our many table looms. Students will learn to wind a warp, read a pattern, sley a loom and weave off a project. A perfect introduction or refresher to loom weaving; gain a practical skill set that can be utilized to create beautiful textiles for years to come. Attendance at first three class sessions is mandatory; integral training and start up information is presented. The focus will be on flameshop safety, bead shaping and surface patterns. Soft-glass will be the primary focus. Silk Screen Printing on Glass - RefresherFriday, July 10, 7-9pm & Sunday, July 12, 11:30-4:30pmSTG-45 Rinee Merrit Member Class Fee: $20 / Non-Member Class fee:$32A refresher class for those students who have already taken craft center 4-week Silk Screen Printing on Glass class. With the approval of the instructor another similar glass screen printing class may be substituted. This is an opportunity to learn how to use the new setup and a few new methods of preparing your work. Screen printing is a wonderful way to create duplicate images on glass! Glass cutting experience REQUIRED. Students will supply their own materials (screens, ink, glass, etc.) These items are available for purchase from the craft center supply store. Students may check out glass cutting tools from the front desk.

Beautiful Stained Glass Tuesdays 6:30-9 July 7 - August 25STG-21 M. Hinds & M. Babel Class Fee: $48 View the world through a stained glass window that you create! Learn to cut glass, draft a pattern and solder using traditional copper foil methods. Design your own pattern or select one from the many pattern books at the Craft Center. Continuing students will work on more complex projects. Equipment and tools are provided but students furnish glass and supplies; these are available for purchase at the Craft Center. Please bring pencil, paper and project ideas to the first class.

Accelerated Beginning Glass Fusing Mondays 7-9:30 June 29 - August 3 EARLY START!STG-29 Deb Scheele Class Fee: $40 / Materials Fee: $27Make colorful glass decorative or functional creations! You will be guided through the process of basic cutting, grinding, fusing, and glass slumping. This includes an introduction to basic tools, glass selection, and firing techniques. This 7-week class is fun and packed with projects ideas, repeat students can learn additional techniques and strengthen their skill set. Glass cutting experience is recommended; the Sun Catcher workshop a great introduction to cutting.

Students will purchase their own glass; instructor will assist students in making selections in the first class.

(Introduction to Bead Making Workshop will meet experience recommendations and/or student should be able to demonstrate they can light & adjust a torch and apply glass to a mandrel.) Students may purchase coe-104 or coe-90 rods from the supply store on the first night of class with the assistance of the instructor. Emphasis will be placed on the execution of elements and finished ‘jewels of glass’. Bring your visions and ideas and join the fun!

An individual camera consultation will occur on the first class…Bring your camera and its MANUAL! Topics of discussion will include shooting “modes”, what makes a good exposure, best camera settings to use for portraits or for action shooting, basics of composition, lens and gear choices, etc. A field trip will be scheduled.

PoliciesThe Craft Center is a membership organization, membership is required to use the studios. We count on all members to help keep the studios clean, tidy & safe. Orientations are REQUIRED each term for all studio area use. Orientations are scheduled the first two weeks into each term; pre-registration is preferred. Orientations requested after scheduled times will be by arrangement, when we are able to accommodate, and will not be offered beyond the 5th week into the term. In order to assure quality control, ALL CLAY must be purchased from the Craft Center. Members will respect the Center’s hours of operation by concluding work, returning all tools and leaving a clean work area by closing time. MembershipThe Craft Center is an adult facility and membership organization. Membership applicants must be 18+ years of age, or be enrolled as Oregon State University students.Those wishing to be members & participate in a Craft Center class or workshop must meet the above age requirements.Younger applicants 16+ years of age, will be considered if they meet our underage criteria, have guardian permission and permission by the instructor (craft center staff will contact the instructor for permission). Note: due to equipment or materials hazard, some classes will be closed to minors.

Refund PolicyFull refunds are given through the Thursday before the first class ONLY; after which, all fees are non-refundable.

Cancellation PolicyThe Craft Center may cancel a class with insufficient enrollment. You will be notified if a cancellation occurs. If your class is cancelled, you have the option of retaining your membership or having the fee refunded along with full class refund; however, you must turn in your membership card in order to get a full refund.

Locker RentalThe Craft Center is not responsible for theft, loss and/or damage to locker contents. Please renew locker rental and membership on or before 5 p.m. of the last day of finals week. All items left in expired lockers are considered abandoned; personal items will be stored for one term only and will require a $5.00 retrieval fee. After one term the contents become the property of the Craft Center, and will not be available. ALL CLAY LEFT IN LOCKERS AFTER THE END OF THE TERM WILL BE RECYCLED.

Liability WaiverThe Craft Center provides access to tools and equipment that may cause personal bodily injury. To reduce the danger and possibility of injury, the Craft Center requires all members to attend an orientation for the studio they plan to use. These orientations are mandatory and free to Craft Center members and are intended for experienced members. In addition, the Craft Center offers classes with instruction in techniques, materials and proper use of tool and equipment. The Craft Center does not provide insurance to its users. Members must accept full responsibility for their

actions, including reimbursing others for damages to them or their property. Members are responsible to replace tools or equipment damaged by their misuse. Memberships may be revoked with no refund for dangerous actions or inappropriate conduct. The Craft Center works to keep all its equipment in good and safe working condition. If you see any dangerous situations or damaged equipment, please report them to the Craft Center Desk Staff immediately. The Craft Center is not responsible for members personal tools, materials or projects left out in the studios.

Day-Passes Day passes are primarily for non-member workshop participants and have been factored in workshop fees as the non-member price.For some instances, day-pass use may be granted to recent prior members who are familiar with Craft Center policies, practices and use of tools & equipment; studio restrictions apply. Payment OptionsThe Craft Center accepts cash, checks and the following credit cards: Visa or MasterCard. Please Note: The Craft Center does not accept Student ID Cards for payments.

LocationWe are located in the Student Experience Center/SEC, basement level.ParkingAfter 5pm & Weekends: You may park FREE in any zoned lot. Anticipate parking difficulties during home football games.

Before 5pm:Parking has been restructured and priced on campus. We recommend you visit the OSU Parking service website for up-to-date parking details: http://parking.oregonstate.edu/.There is a free Campus Shuttle system that will run from 7am to 7pm.

Loading ZoneThere is a 15 minute loading zone at the SEC/Craft Center that is free at any time, but the time limit is strictly enforced. It is located on the East side (library side) of the building. For building security, the door to the to the load receiving room & freight elevator is kept locked. To gain access, craft center members may: Call the front desk @ 541.737.2937 or proceed to the SEC North entrance, take passenger elevator down to basement level to the craft center for flatbed cart if needed, then ride the freight elevator to 1R where they can access their vehicle. There is a hand cart on the wall of loading receiving room.

FeesMembership InformationOSU Craft Center membership provides you access to studio space and a wealth of equipment and tools. Membership is non-refundable after the start of the term. SUMMER MEMBERSHIP FEES: OSU Student: $40 OSU Faculty/Staff: $70 General Public: $80 Locker/Wood Bin Rental: $5-20 per term

NEW THIS SUMMER: Option to take workshops and some shorter classes without a Craft Center membership at the noted Non-Member Class Fee. Non-Members will not be entitled to use the craft center outside of registered class times.

Class InformationMost classes meet for 2 ½ hours per week over a 6-8 week period and are limited to 10 students per class. Class prices vary according to length & size. Pre-Registration is strongly recommended since many of the classes fill quickly. Refer to “Refund Policy” for more information.

Open Torch StudioMinor burners will be exclusively reserved for soft glass work. National torches

will be used for boro. Completion of a Summer Term 2015 orientation is required

Schedule to be posted for dates, typically: Fridays 7-9:30pm Saturdays 1-3:30pm Sundays 1-3:30pmPractice skills you’ve learned in class. Registration for open torch is limited to members who are in a torch class, or have taken a Craft Center torch class and have completed an orientation for this term. NOTE: Members sign up in advance for one session per week. Members can participate in a 2nd session, if space is available on the session date. Sessions do not run if a workshop is scheduled. Members are asked to sign up 24 hours in advance or session is subject to cancellation.
