End of the Year Update The end of June is here, and so is the 2013-2014 school year. I wasn’t planning on having another newsletter, but I decided to send a more informal note home. First of all, on behalf of the staff of Christ the King, I’d like to wish you and all our CTK families a safe and relaxing summer holiday. We look forward to seeing you all back on September 2nd, 2014. Take time to claim your strengths; they are gifts of God. Take time to have fun; it's God's way of teaching you your strengths. Take time to grow yourself; only you can grow you. Take time to trust yourself; God trusts you. Take time to be self-reliant; it is better than being dependent. Take time to share with others; they will bless you, and you will bless them. Take time to have hope, you are a child of God. Let's put ourselves into the hands of the Lord, and pray that God will bless us and our families during the wonderful months of summer. May we all help make our home a place of relaxation, joy, love, peace and safety. May we be generous and considerate, not thinking only about ourselves, but helping others enjoy the blessings of a summertime. Lord God, Creator of all things, guide our steps and strengthen our hearts, during these months of summer and vacation days. Grant us refreshment of mind and body. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Students Stars of the Year! The following students have been selected and recognized because they have demonstrated an incredible amount of either academic or social growth this school year. We are very proud of their accomplishments and they are examples of setting goals and achieving them with hard work and determination. Congratulations to the following students; Christopher Iozzo, Jose Trilho, Matthew Costa, Matteo Johnson, Michael Cormier, Adriana Kazmierczak, Lucy Llanto, Blake Boutilier, Vince Tran, Samantha Tecson, Domenik Olarte, Jessica Dela Cruz and Sophia Murphy. PLAY DAY- Always a great day and one that students never forget! Thank you to all those who helped organize our Play Day, and a sincere thank you to all the parents/guardians who came out in the heat of the day to make and distribute hot dogs. The students had a wonderful day. TEACHER CHANGES - We are sad to say goodbye to the following teachers; Ms. Spensieri, Ms. Riga, Ms. Goff, and Mrs. Lau, who will be on maternity leave. We thank them for their dedication to Christ the King. We have been blessed to have so many talented and caring educators, and we wish them all the best in their future educational careers. There will be a CSAC communication coming out to all our families in August. Be sure to see keep an eye out for it in the mail. You can contact them at [email protected]. EMAIL COMMUNICATION- Our email communication for newsletters and weekly updates has been very successful and well-received. Parents/guardians who are not on the distribution list often miss out on pertinent information, therefore we have decided that we will only be using email

Take time to be self-reliant; it is better than being dependent.

communication starting September 2014. If you are not on our list, it is imperative that you email me at [email protected] to be added to the list or you can also include another parent/guardian. CHANGES TO LUNCTIME ROUTINES As a school, we try to promote a healthy lifestyle through our DPA, our health curriculum and other educational programing. After watching two full years of students leaving for lunch and returning with countless unhealthy choices (large Slurpees, energy drinks and candy), as a staff, we’ve decided to again limit the number of days and which students will be permitted to go for lunch. Grade 7 & 8 students will be able to go out on Thursdays only. We will continue with our Lunch Lady on Wednesday and Pizza on Friday. We will also offer our CTK Snack Shop with healthier choices like popcorn and cookies that meet the Ministry Standards. We may also include new snacks. All students up until Grade 6 are not permitted to go out for lunch unless a parent picks them up. We appreciate your support in ensuring our children are learning about healthy choices, all the while keeping them safe. AGENDAS will be available in early September. The cost of the agenda will be $3 and CSAC will generously be covering the other $3 for each student. CLOTHING SALE will be happening during the last week before school starts. Blue and white clothing with the CTK logo will be available. Items will include hoody’s, yoga style pants, t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and jogging pants. SUMMER READING LIST- Attached you will find a copy of some fabulous books that you can read to or encourage your child to read over the summer. Just because summer is here, doesn’t mean students should not do any academics. Reading, Math and computer games (such as Dance Mat Typing, Prodigy, Reading A-Z) are all great ways for children to keep their skills sharp, and of course we encourage as much exercise as possible! SUPPLIES LIST – Included on the back side of the reading list is the list of supplies that we are recommending you buy for your child/ren for their return back to school. STARFISH MOMENTS- The following people received our final starfish moments of the year 2013-2014. Sebastian Lennox, Alexander Banatas, Mrs. Spensieri and Mrs. Pogorzelski for generously covering the cost of the Medieval Times for our Grade 4’s, NEXT YEAR’S THEME FOR THE YEAR WILL BE MANNERS MATTER – We will examine not only every day interactions with people, but we will go beyond and encourage, promote and model healthy dialogue between students and students with adults. Safety- Please review the bike safety information that was sent home. Last Friday, we had a special presentation from our Officer Rich and Tammy from Fedex. Here is her story. Please share. https://www.iamfedex.com/ I’m very happy to be returning to such a wonderful school community. All the best and I look forward to seeing everyone in September! Ms. Aube
