GÉNERO E EMPREENDEDORISMO EM PORTUGAL Alcina Nunes ([email protected]) Instituto Politécnico de Bragança Carina Capontes ([email protected]) Instituto Politécnico de Bragança ABSTRACT: Entrepreneurship is an international phenomenon which creates, innovates and generates employment, and, therefore, economic growth. In individual terms, it arises as a new perspective of career for both men and women. In Portugal, research on this topic is relatively scarce. Thus, the purpose of this research work is to quantify the entrepreneurial phenomenon by gender in Portugal in the first decade of the XXI century. In order to achieve this goal has been applied logistic regression models to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) secondary data. It was found that entrepreneurial activity differs in gender in Portugal. In the Portuguese economy, men start ventures more frequently than women, and, taking into account the last year analysed, men are twice more likely to start a new business than women. This figure had previously been three times superior, which shows that women are demonstrating an increasing interest in entrepreneurship. KEYWORDS: Entrepreneurship, Gender, Woman, GEM, Portugal

INNOVATION AND FLEXIBILITY STRATEGIES: THE PAVEMENTS THAT LINK INTERNATIONAL NEW VENTURES' RESOURCES TO PERFORMANCE Nuno Fernandes Crespo ([email protected]) ISEG - School of Economics and Management - University of Lisboa; ADVANCE Vitor Corado Simões ([email protected]) ISEG - School of Economics and Management - University of Lisboa; ADVANCE Margarida Fontes ([email protected]) UMOSE - Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia e Geologia; DINÂMIA’CET ABSTRACT: A major weakness in the international entrepreneurship (IE) field is the focus direct relationships between the antecedents of IE and the outcomes of the internationalization process. This provided the motivation for the present research. Drawing from the literature on IE, a model is developed, introducing strategic approaches as mediators between entrepreneurial orientation and firm resources, on the one hand, and firm international performance, on the other. Two basic strategies were considered: innovation and flexibility. The empirical testing of the model confirms that the strategies followed by the firm play an important role in leading to increased international performance. A negative relationship was found between the availability of generic resources and the adoption of both innovation and flexibility strategies suggesting that INVs may adopt those strategies as an instrument to escape resource constraints. Furthermore, the recourse to innovation strategy is dependent from the existence of technological and managerial capabilities.
