Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues Canada and McGill University’s Institute for the Study of International Development, and Vancouver Island University, is offering this innovative program which promotes relationship

building and reconciliation between Indigenous and non- Indigenous communities through leadership collaboration and development.

Indigenous peoples seek a quality of life that other Canadians take for granted. These communities and other stakeholders can work together in a spirit of reconciliation to improve socio-economic conditions on reserve and attain the full potential of these talented yet marginalized peoples. Attainment of this potential is critical for economic development, the establishment of partnerships with industry, and maintaining strong relationships with other communities. Leadership is required to tackle these issues and help guide the country towards true reconciliation.

Over 6 days, this program will bring together 40 Canadian emerging leaders for three days of classroom work delivered by the Institute for the Study of International Development; and, three days of study tours on Vancouver Island. You will discuss challenges and strategies with leaders from band councils, business, labour unions, government departments as well

as civil society organizations. This cross-sector approach will expose you to a range of issues from multiple perspectives, and will provide you with a unique opportunity to look beyond the scope of your regular context in your own organization and locale. The insights gained from these meetings will promote understanding, connection and inform your project work.

The program themes are Ethics and Good Governance; Inclusiveness, Diversity and Community Engagement; Collaborative Leadership and, Sustainability.

During the program you will:

• Benefit from the delivery of six modules on the themes of leadership, community development, regional economic development, economic opportunities and indigenous and non-indigenous perspectives on the environment;

• Work in a small group of ten people to develop a paper on what was learned, and how this will impact your leadership.

• Create a network of leaders within business, government, labour and civil society.

• Obtain a certificate of completion.

• Become a part of the global Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues alumni.

Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues CanadaThe Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues Canada (ELD Canada) brings together emerging leaders to tackle themes such as governance, ethics, innovation, sustainability and collaboration. ELD Canada’s intensive in-field, experiential program develops peer-to-peer critical leadership competencies, including collaboration, integration, and critical thinking.

Emerging leaders gain experience and understanding of the processes under which multiple sectors operate and apply that experience to the betterment of their organizations, communities and countries as they advance as leaders. By working together, these sectors can connect the necessary knowledge, investment, technologies and resources to address issues which can often be overlooked by a single- sector approach.

Led by the President, HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues is a not for profit organization with over 5,000 alumni in 52 countries around the world. ELD Canada Inc. is a registered Canadian charitable organization and a Commonwealth Accredited Civil Society Organization led by a Board of seasoned professionals.
