Potentate’s Message
James HirlPotentate 2017
Happy New Year!I would like to thank the Nobles
and Ladies of Tangier for giving me the honor of being your Potentate for 2017. Lady Harriet and I are looking forward to working hard and making it an enjoyable and prosperous year for all. Thank you Illustrious Sir Charlie and Lady Connie for a fun and interesting year. We wish you the best.
I want to congratulate the rest of the elected Divan. Welcome to our new Oriental Guide, Steve Elliott and his Lady Cheryl and our newest trustee, Dave Robinson.
January will be a busy and fun month. We start with the Installation on January 6th at 7:30 pm. The following morning January 7th at 8:00 am, we will have our Club and Unit Installation for all the Officers and their Ladies. Hamburger nights start back on January 4 so be sure to check your Hot Sands for the weekly specials. There will be some good ones. Thanks to you Nobles and your friends for your attendance at the ones we had last fall. It was great to see so many enjoying the food and companionship again.
Remember the Circus will be quickly approaching in February and we hope to have another fun and prosperous year. Thank you to all of you who sold ads for the programs. Please talk to your family, friends, and coworkers about how much fun the Circus is. We will have some great acts again this year.
I trust that all of you will continue volunteering to support the Hospitals and our kids. If you get a chance, visit one of our Hospitals. I would highly recommend it as it is a very heartwarming experience.
Thank you Nobles and Ladies in advance for all the help you will be giving Lady Harriet and me this year. We will do our best!

JANUARY 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”
Boone & CrockettBy: Charlie Binge
– Secretary 2016
It’s January. It’s cold outside but a New Year. Congratulations Illustrious Sir Jim Hirl, our Potentate, and all our Divan members for 2017.
Our Boone & Crockett members are busy prepping for the Wild Game Dinner on Saturday, January 28th. The freezers are full of pheasant, venison, doves, geese, elk, and turkey. Our members are also out shopping for raffle and gift basket items for the dinner. Tickets this year are again only $15 each. We again offer a “Captain’s Table” for $210 which includes 8 dinner Tickets, $90 in general raffle tickets (108 tickets total), $10 in bullet board raffles, reserved seating, and a chance to win a gun! One gun for every 5 captain tables sold (Example: If 20 tables are sold, there will be 4 guns that we raffle off between those 20 captains!). You can purchase your tickets and tables from any B&C member or the office. Again, all monies earned from the Dinner will go towards the purchase of a new van to transport our kids to the Hospitals.
On Saturday, January 14th, the B&C Club will be celebrating our annual Christmas Party. The B&C Club will supply the main entree and members with last names beginning with A-M are asked to bring a side dish and members with names beginning with N-Z are asked to bring desserts. Party will begin at 5:30 pm.
At our ceremonial on December 3rd, the B&C Club picked up two new members.
Welcome Tim VanAckern and Chris Baker. We are glad to have you join our group. Also joining our membership at our December meeting/dinner, was Past Potentate Robert Wilczewski. Welcome back to the B&C Club! Bob also donated a wonderful limited edition Masonic rifle, which will be raffled off later in the year.
2017 Dues for B&C Club are now due: $ 20 for 1 year or $90 for 5 Years.
Our next meeting/dinner will be on January 5th at 6:30 pm in the lower level of the Shrine. Visit your Blue Lodge and bring a new member into Tangier Shrine and the B&C Club.
Arab PatrolBy: Steve Bugajny, Secretary
Happy New Year 2017.Well the year has gone by quickly and
it seems to speed up every new year. We are so blessed to be part of this wonderful organization and all the good it has done and will continue to do. Yes we have many food events and various fundraisers but keep in mind
all of the children we can offer a glimmer of hope or reason to not give up.
This time of the year we are flooded with mail, post cards, online requests, and the phone calls that come at tough times. All for their respective needs and requests to donate to the worthy causes. The sad part is it hits all of us at Christmas/Holiday times and we can give to only so many worthy causes, but we do. And we continue to do, because that’s who we are. Unfortunately the Shrine hospitals don’t run from Thanksgiving through Christmas . We have many kids who depend on us. So, that being said, our unit Arab Patrol, will gladly welcome new members and are happy to continue growing to assist the kids with our contributions via food fests, raffles, and charitable events.
We have a new slate of officers, Paul Ballinger, President, George Pfeffer, VP, Loren Kastanek, Treasurer, Steve Bugajny, Secretary.
We have a fine group, please come see us at our monthly meeting, second Monday at 7:00 pm in the Aladdin room.
Lets all have a super 2017!
Arbor ShrineBy: Don Larson
A happy new year to all and hope everyone had an safe Christmas and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Arbor Shrine Nobles and Ladies would like to thank Glenn Bennett for serving as President last year and feel the Club had ever successful year.
At the November meeting, the Officers elected to serve for 2017, were Dean Jeaneret as President, Brownie Brown as Vice-president and Dennis Marshial as Secretary/Treasurer. We want to thank them for stepping up to serve the Club this year.
We hope all of the Arbor Shrine snow birds have had a safe trip south and are enjoying the warm weather and if they can find the time to send some of that weather north, we miss seeing them at the meetings.
The Shrine Circus will be at the Mid America Center, Council Bluffs in February and anyone that can find some time during the Circus, Melton Leefers sure could use help manning the novelty booth sellling novelties. Please contact him for when you can help, his phone number 402-828-5775.
I would like to start putting birthdays, anniversaries or any other interesting information about the members of Arbor Shine, so you may be contacted to bring the membership files up to date or you can forward that information to the club. Everyone would enjoy seeing you at the next meeting and you can then turn in the information.
Arbor Shrine is always looking for new members, so if you know someone that may enjoy the fellowship of the Shrine and Club, be sure to invite them to join, all you have to do is ask. Remember our hospitals need patients too.
The Madsen Family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to everyone who assisted and attended the services, sent cards, gave memorials or just kept us in your thoughts & prayers. We appreciate all of you so much. Thank you again for all of your support. - Barb, Dennis, Sheryl and David Madsen and families

JANUARY 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”
Jim Turpen, Circus Chair
We are now within two months of Circus time and the excitement is growing. Here is some information about our latest activities. The ticket pre-sale started in November and we had a significant increase in the number of tickets sold compared to last year. Tickets are now on sale to the public and it is time ramp up our promotional activities. You may have noticed that Circus ads are now appearing on television, on Facebook, and on Twitter, so we are already getting the word out to the public.
Daddy and Mommy tickets have been delivered and all Nobles and Ladies are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. These tickets are offered at a 40% discount over the general admission price of a ticket and this is one of Tangier’s ways of saying thank you to the Nobility for all the hard work you do to make our Circus such a huge success.
We have started an initiative to offer discounted tickets to our service men and women at Offutt AFB, again as a way that Tangier is saying thank you to these folks for their service. Our upcoming promotions will also highlight other ways that Tangier is giving back to our local community through our Special People performance, our “D.A.R.E. like” performance, and our Great Bicycle Giveaway. Speaking of bicycles, now is the time to get those pledge forms into the Office.
The Circus is an important fundraiser for Tangier and we count on our local communities for their support and for its success. In turn, these are but a few examples of how we are saying “thank you” to our local kids and their families. We can all be proud of these efforts and the generosity of our Nobility.
Wishing all a Happy New Year.
Circus Tangier BandBy: John Herbolsheimer
Happy New Year to all! The month of December was busy for many in the Tangier Band, as many of the members are involved with holiday concerts and school performances throughout the city. The band did get together for a holiday party early in the month, and we had an evening of celebration and caroling with members of the Divan and their Ladies. Thank you to all who attended, and congratulations to the elected officers who retained their positions for 2017! During this next year, we hope to continue to entertain at various Shrine functions, parades, picnics, and meetings. We are currently looking for Nobles, Ladies, and community members who might be interested in joining us for our upcoming Circus performances. We can always use the extra volume to make sure we give a great performance for a large crowd!
The Band is looking for band instrumentalists, and we can always use a few more brass, woodwind, and percussion players. Even if you think you’ve been out of practice for too long, sit in with us and you’ll be surprised at how quickly it all comes back to you! If you need an instrument, we might be able to find one for you. If you are interested, please contact John Herbolsheimer at [email protected] or Nathan Rolofson at [email protected].
Please continue to support the efforts and fund-raising activities of your local clubs, units, and lodges.
ChantersBy: Bernie Hauber
Last month as the Chanters performed in their annual Christmas Tour for retirement homes, the Omaha Home for Boys, etc., we did so in memory of Past Potentate Don Madsen. As was said in the many tributes following his death in November, he was a wonderful Mason and Shriner. He also regularly supported the Chanters in word and deed. Until last year, he rarely missed accompanying us on our annual Christmas Tour and had done so since being on the Divan in the late Sixties (more than 40 years!). Illustrious Sir Don would open doors for us, sit in the back, and applaud for each of the tour performances. His support, his smile, and his efforts will be truly missed. On a personal note, this author might not have been a Shriner or Chanter were it not for the persistent prodding of Don Madsen. Although we still feel his loss, we know that Don is with that Celestial Choir in the Paradise created especially for him by the Supreme Architect of the Universe.
Last year the Chanters held elections, and Noble Joel Perry was elected Captain. Joel was raised as a Master Mason in 1980 at Sam Poe Lodge #284 in Greenville, SC. He joined York Rite and became a Shriner at Hejaz Temple in 1982. He first moved to Omaha in 1992. He has been happily married to Lady Wendy since 1994. They have a daughter. Joel went to work for Mitchell and Associates in 2002 and has worked there to this date. Bob Mitchell convinced Joel to affiliate with Tangier Shrine in 2003 and join the Chanters. He also sings with his church choir as many of us Chanters do. We Chanters are pleased to be blessed by his bass voice and his service.
Noble George “Fritz” McMullin was elected Lieutenant, Noble Jim Carlton was reelected Treasurer of the unit, and Noble Glen Petersen was reelected Recording Secretary.
The Chanters have received only a few requests to perform at Masonic family installations, including that of Potentate-elect Jim Hirl.
Any man with a joy for singing and an interest in joining us should contact any Chanter or just stop by on Mondays (starting January 9) around 7:00 pm at the Shrine Center.
“Since love is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?” Robert Lowry (Baptist minister and composer)
Motor ABy: Larry Hulsebus
Motor “A” would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous New Year! We had our Motor “A” Christmas Party at Famous Dave’s and a good time was had by all. We all congratulated Dick Chilton on becoming an “Ordained Minister”, along with his motor skills he can now perform other services. You might want to remember that next year during the parade season, if you are needing a quick service, Dick can pull his little 57’ over and perform a ceremony (rumor has it, his services are a little steep)!
Anniversary wishes go out to Brandon and Lindsey and birthday wishes to Tami Stites for January. Until next month, “Keep your gas tanks full and remember to turn the key.”
By: Maxine Lorraine Powers
Happy New Year! January 1, 2017 – the date for making resolutions and thinking about hopes and dreams. Hope – that little four-letter word is so important. It’s the desire with expectation of fulfillment. I think you’ll agree – it’s hope and faith that keeps one on an even keel.
Golden Girls will meet at noon on January 10. Usual place – the lower level (Oasis room) of the Shrine Center. After a tasty lunch, the first order of business will be the election of officers to serve during 2017. Let’s hope (there’s that word) the weather is favorable, so we can have a good attendance. There has been such a thing as January thaw in the past.
Helene Campbell, our Treasurer, is our January birthday lady. Happy Birthday, Helene. We wish you many more.
Good luck to everyone making New Years resolutions. I am well aware it isn’t easy to keep them.
The officers and members of Golden Girls join me in wishing all readers a healthy and happy New Year.
Golden Girls

JANUARY 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”
GreetersBy: Jeff Welch
Greetings All Nobles, Divan members, and Past Potentates.
Our Greeter’s unit just had their Christmas Dinner at Jerico’s in West Omaha. The meal was very good and we enjoyed taking pictures at the end. One of our guests, who is 94 years old, joined the Shrine in 1947 and then became a Greeter, so it was even more of a special night. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and even better New Year for 2017.
We will be greeting at the Door for the Divan Installation on January 6th at around 5:30 pm. Please wear your Red Tux Coats and Fez for this special night. On January 7th, the Installation of Officers for Units and Clubs will begin after Breakfast, which will be at approximately 8:00 am. This should only take a couple of hours, so you can make your Blue Lodge installations later that day, if you have them going on. Our next Greeters Unit meeting will be at 6:30 pm at the Shrine, with dinner provided by Garden Cafe.
The Greeters brought in two new members, Edgar Martinez and Nanny, in the fall, so I am happy on them joining our Unit. I enjoyed being Director for 2016 and will return for 2017 as an Assistant. Also, being without a Float, we can still ride in the Parades when that season comes around.
If interested, any Noble can come to one of our meetings and learn about our Unit, as we meet on the Second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Thanks for your time.
Daughtersof the Nile
By: Queen Cheryl Elliott
Happy 2017 to everyone. December was another busy month for Sat-ra Temple. We had a very fun White Elephant gift exchange after our monthly Stated Session. I am proud to say that I “stole” the Dancing Douglas Fir Tree that my grandchildren now love.
I am so excited to report that our Temple’s Holiday Giving Donations raised for the Shriners Hospital for Children for just December was $330. We sent over $650 worth of tangible items to the Hospital kids in October- November. Thank you so much to the beautiful ladies and Nobles that work hard and give their time and resources for Daughters of the Nile.
There is no Stated Session in January, but we will have a very exciting Trivia Competition on the 21st starting at 1:00 pm. This is open to the public, so come out to beat the winter blahs.
I am so proud to be able to bring new ladies into our international fraternal order for women. On February 2nd, we will have a combined Stated Session/ceremonial starting at 9:00 am. All new and present members are welcome. If you know of a lady that you would like to propose as a member contact me or go this web site to print off as many proposals as you need at daughtersofthenile.com. Also, all members should have gotten a Newsletter from our Temple by now. If you have not, contact Princess Recorder Barb Gray with the correct mailing information.
I am sorry to report that we have many members who have dealt with sorrow or distress lately. Our prayers and well wishes go out to them and their families. My 2017 New Year’s wish is for a happy and healthy year for everyone. Remember those small acts of kindness are never wasted.
Road RunnersBy: Stanley Garner
Tangier Road Runners made six trips to the Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cities in November, transporting six patients thereto. An additional eleven patients traveled there by private conveyance. Five patients were flown to the Chicago Hospital, and one patient was flown to the Cincinnati Hospital.
Road Runner drivers for November included: J. Gathmann, R. Krause, P. Pilakowski, R. DeWell, M. Dreier, J. Sklenar, G. Eckert, F. Kroupa, D. Robinson, and M. Brooks.
Thanks for your “patient” driving!
Corvette ClubBy: Pete Larson
– President 2017
The Tangier Corvette Club (TCC) would like to congratulate Illustrious Sir Charles “Charlie” Marchand, Jr. and Lady Connie for very successful year as the leaders of Tangier Shriners.
Congratulations are also in order to Tangier’s new Potentate-Elect Jim Hirl and Lady Harriett and the respective 2017 Divan, as 2017 is sure to be another stellar year for Tangier.
December 3rd marked another successful Tangier Ceremonial and hospitality night. The TCC would like to welcome the new Nobles to Tangier as this will certainly be the start of a memorable lifetime experience as a Shriner. As new Nobles, please remember that it is important to become active in the Shrine whether by joining a unit or a club. Several new Nobles expressed a strong desire to become part of our club at our Ceremonial meet and greet.
I would like to congratulate Past President Paul Bohannon, Jr. for a successful and fun year in 2016. The TCC did some different things as a result of Paul’s leadership. For 2017 the lineup of officers for the TCC includes Vice President – Mark Huss; Secretary – John Shanks; and Treasurer – Hank Schwarz. With this excellent lineup, how could we not have another banner year in 2017? Let’s all go for a 5-Peat at CSSA in Overland Park, KS this year!
The TCC celebrated the holiday season at the a club’s annual Christmas Party held on December 16 and everyone enjoyed the fine prime rib and chicken cordon blue prepared by Potentate–Elect Jim Hirl.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of the TCC members, who were able to help man the Christmas Tree Lot during the holiday season. This annual event would not be successful without everyone’s help.
REMEMBER – The TCC is looking for a few new members who own a parade-worthy Corvette. The club meets at Tangier Shrine Center at 6:00 pm the second Monday of every month. Please contact Pete Larson at (402) 659-5960 or email him at: [email protected] if you would like more information about becoming a Tangier Corvette Club member.
Until next time keep your top and windows down when it is sunny, but UP when you go through the car wash!

JANUARY 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”
Keystone KopsBy: Chief Travis “Jinxie” Drews
Happy New Year! Jill and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Our Officer line for 2017 is Captain Randy Jaccaud and Lieutenant/Sergeant Joe Burtzel. Thank you all for electing me as Chief. I have learned so much on the officer line not just about our unit, but our Shrine and philanthropy. I am a better man now than when I started this journey!
Our Trustees for the Kops will be Past Chief Howard Miller, Past Chief Dean Stockman, Past Chief Tyler Goodman, and Past Chief Craig Crawford! Thank you brothers for your dedication and any advice you have to share and for the advice already dispensed.
Our first meeting will be Friday January 13th in the Main room at 7:30pm. Following the meeting, we will have a Kop Kollege. I encourage all new Kops and their Kuties and us seasoned Kops and Kuties to attend. If you are a new Shriner at Tangier and have not a found a Club or Unit, I invite you and your Lady to attend as well. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about the Keystone Kops history, what we are about, and how to “Kop around” and interact with the public, and general expectations of members. It’s going to be FUN!
This month we will be busy as we are getting into planning of the Past Pote Roast and ticket sales, and Divan Installation on January 6th at 7:30pm. Don’t forget the 2017 Shrine Circus is almost upon us, and Circus promotion will be here faster than you know it so be on the lookout for email updates on times and locations.
I will share one idea I plan on implementing at the Circus this year for us Kops… Wait for it… A pie firing squad. You read that right. For 10 bucks you can have a fellow Kop suffer the hoodwink and have 4-5 pies thrown at him. The money collected will go to the Transportation Fund.
Support your Blue Lodge, York, and Scottish Rites. Always carry a Shrine Hospital referral card in your wallet. Never forget that we are about helping children.
Remember if it’s not broke don’t fix it…If it’s broke…I’m sorry!
Hospital FloatBy: Mike Donham
January brings a new year for Tangier Shrine and the Hospital Float Unit.
I hope everyone had happy holidays in December. The Unit celebrated their annual Christmas get-together on December 9th with twenty five Noble and Ladies present.
With the Circus coming in February, the Hospital Float unit will be selling a new line of Circus sweatshirts and T-shirts.
On a sad note, the Hospital Float lost a good friend in Past Potentate Don Madsen. PP Don and Lady Barbara were honorary members of the Unit. They attended many of our dinner meetings and many times he was asked to deliver the table grace. PP Don will be sorely missed. “God speed my Brother.”
Under sickness and distress, we offer get well wishes to the following Nobles and Ladies: Nobles Don Ellis, Dick Whiteman, Mike Donham and Lady Carol Hale.
Happy Birthday wishes to Noble Bob Brown and Ladies Cindy Nisley, Gladys Linn and Barb Madsen. Noble Tom and Lady Caryl Jean Hultquist celebrate an anniversary in January.
Remember Nobles, “When you’ve got something to prove there is nothing greater than a challenge.” – Terry Bradshaw

Howdy Cuzins! How ya’ll doin? Hope you and yours had a great holiday season. Thanks to all you Cuzins and Gals that helped make this another successful year for the Hillbillies! It’s been a great 12 months. Congrats to Ill Cuzin Charlie and his Gal Connie! Thank you for your support throughout your years on the divan. We would also like to wish the best to Ill Cuzin Jimmy and Lady Harriet on their ensuing year. It’s great to have a cuzin in charge of the temple again in 2017. It’s gonna be a great year!
We sure had a great time at the Hillbilly Christmas party on Thursday, December 29th. I really hope you enjoyed all the food and fun. I appreciate everyone that chipped in and helped put on the party. Also, thank you to everyone that brung a dish to enjoy. I think I am still full. How did you do in the gift exchange? I sure saw some creative gifts exchanged this year. Hope ya got just what you wanted.
We also have the upcoming Spring Ceremonial. It’s tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 15th! SAVE THE DATE! One of the big changes we started last year was doing the ceremonial at Tangier! We have some other neat ideas too. This is gonna be a heck of a hootenanny! Of course we are going to need lots of help for this event too. So if you can help out, that would be greatly appreciated. Please mark it on your calendar and tell all your friends. Along with the great vittles, we are looking to be changing a few things up this year too. Its gunna be a fun time!
If you have any ideas you’d like to share, please get a hold of one of the HB officers. My email is [email protected]. We appreciate your input. Please keep an eye on the Hot Sands and computer mail for more info on the Spring Ceremonial.
Sweet Cheeks and I hope you and your family have a very Happy New Year! We are really looking forward to 2017. Ain’t it great to be a hillbilly!
Honor the Cob!

2016 was a great year to be a part of Mo-Ri and 2017 is shaping up to be even better. Leading the way in 2017 will be our newly reelected President for the fourth time, Joe Hodge; Vice President, Randy Jaccaud; First VP, Tony Rosterman; Second VP Stefan Bugajny; and Don Eppley as Secretary/Treasurer.
Mo-Ri wishes to extend our special Thank You to Illustrious Sir Charlie Marchand and Lady Connie along with their entire Divan for the support they provided to our Club by their attendance at our meetings and the support they provided in our several fundraisers throughout the year. Likewise, we wish to extend our congratulations and wishes for success to our newly elected Potentate, Jim Hirl and Lady Harriet. Our newest members of Mo-Ri, Steve Elliott along with Lady Cheryl, have already made us proud by being elected as Tangier’s Oriental Guide for 2017.
Can’t finish the article without mentioning how appreciative the Club was to have Assistant Rabban Dave Norton and Lady Cassi as our Divan Reps throughout 2016. Dave and Cassi, we wish you the best as you continue your march through the chairs in 2017.
Please come out and check us out on the third Thursday of most months at a local eatery somewhere within the Omaha Metro. Check our schedule of meetings and locations at www.tangieronline.org. Click on Units and Clubs.

Happy New Year!
The Auxiliary had their Christmas luncheon on December 7. Many of us talked about the infamous day in 1941. We remember our service men and women who give so much so that we can enjoy our many freedoms. Of course we had more than enough food to go around. Many of our Nobles (also members) joined us for the luncheon. We are sure they didn’t go away hungry.
We installed the 2017 officers. They are: Jan Larsen, President, Toddy Manson, Vice President, Julie McKerlie, Secretary and Sharon Perry, Treasurer. Sharon is new to the position and we are so glad to have her working with us. We sent $2000 from our treasury to the Hospital at this meeting. We will also send money in April when our Auxiliary hospital representative goes to the General Meeting of the Auxiliary in St. Paul. At the luncheon many of us took tee-shirts to go to the hospital. It seems that there is a need for them at this time. We collected 43 shirts that day.
We continue to receive many donations of toys, toiletries, and can tabs. We do appreciate all of the donations. We especially want to thank Les McManigal for the 13 gallon sack of beanie babies that was given to us to go to the kids. Way to go! If I heard correctly at the meeting today, Jan L. and Toddy loaded up 23 boxes of things to go to the hospital. We know that Tangier cares.
Have a safe and prosperous new year and remember to be kind to one another.
Talk to you next month.

Mobile NoblesBy: Dave Stolp
Well, January is over and we enter into the second month of 2017.
We would like to shout out a BIG THANKS to all of the Mobile Nobles who attended the fall ceremonial. We had an excellent turnout.
We are celebrating a new member to the Mobile Nobles. We welcome Rod Larsen and Lady Angie. Rod and Angie have been long time supporters of Tangier and we are proud to have them join our unit.
The Mobile Nobles are saddened by the passing of PP Don Madsen. Don was a long time member of the Mobile Nobles. Don was a tireless servant and ambassador to Tangier and the Masonic Order.
We are bringing “OLD 357” out of the barn this month to do our annual visits to some of the local HyVee stores to promote the Circus. We will be at 50th & Center February 3rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 56th & Maple February 4th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, 1745 Madison Ave in Council Bluffs February 10th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and 2223 Broadway in Council Bluffs February 11th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. We welcome all to come out and take a ride.
The Mobile Nobles donate two bicycles every year for giveaway at the Circus. Individuals are encouraged to donate as well. See the pledge form in this edition.
March is the month we hold our annual 357 Dinner. Great food and fabulous prizes. See our ad in this issue.
Remember to support all units and clubs and our Hot Sands advertisers when you can.
That’s all for now. See ya down the tracks.Quote: The most wasted of all days is one

Shrine Bowl UnitBy: Tim Bernet, Commander
Greetings from the Shrine Bowl Unit. One year has come to a close and another
is just beginning. The Shrine Bowl Unit had a busy 2016 and capped it off with our annual Christmas Brunch. Thank you to all the unit members and special guests in attendance. We had a fantastic turnout and honored two very deserving unit members with the Shrine Bowl Unit Hall of Fame Award. If you see Bruce Arp and Mike Arola around the Shrine congratulate them on their award and thank them for the dedication to the Shrine Bowl Unit and to the Tangier family.
In November, we elected a new 2017 Shrine Bowl Unit Commander. I would first like to thank you all for the support you gave me during my tenure as commander in 2015 & 2016. With my tenure complete, I am proud to hand the baton off to John Golden. He and his lady Barb have been in the Shrine family for several years and they are committed to Tangier, and especially to the Shrine Bowl Unit. I know John will do a great job.
As we begin the year, we look forward to our January and February Big Red Dinners. These dinners will provide an opportunity to look back at the 2016 season as well as to look forward to our new recruits and the 2017 season. Sean Callahan will visit January 19 and Nate Clouse will bring in his recruiting film February 16. You won’t want to miss a sneak peek at the new recruits.
Hamburger Nights are underway once again. Unit members, our unit will run Hamburger Night January 25th. Please come out and help us make it a great success.
