Theresa Pitts of Morgan County knows from experience how difficult it is to re- enter the job market during midlife. For 18 years, Theresa worked for the Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) Home Health Agency, but she retired and moved away from her hometown of West Liberty. When circumstances out of her control forced her back into the job market, she found that everything had changed. Slow economic times and the devastating tornado that ripped through West Liberty in March 2012 left a lot of people looking for work, and competition for jobs became fierce. Thankfully, a friend of Theresa’s heard about the Morgan County Job Club and recommended she give it a try. A job club is a small group of job seekers who meet weekly with local workforce professionals to improve their job searches. EKCEP operates the network of workforce centers, where more than a dozen state and federal employment and training programs are gathered under one roof to meet the needs of eastern Kentucky’s job seekers and employers. EKCEP also administers programs that deliver tiered levels of services–including assistance with tuition and books–to adults, dislocated workers, and economically disadvantaged young people under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA). Delivered through the JobSight network, these WIA programs use a wide variety of resources to help customers advance their careers.
