Course Description
This workshop will update you with the latest information on cables, substations and switchgear, transformers and circuit breakers. You will become familiar with the techniques in control and maintenance and safety operations of the abovementioned electrical equipment. The Electrical Preventive Maintenance (EPM) program covers almost all the key aspects of EPM and its benefits. The electrical drawing and schematics area discusses in depth the topics of logic diagrams, ladder diagrams, cabling and wiring diagrams and electrical documentation.The basic concepts of switchgear and substations, their func-tionality along with the maintenance and repair of the GIE (Gas Insulated Equipment) and GIS (Gas Insulated Substations) are examined in detail for substations and switchgear.You will also look at transformers: their construction, cooling, and voltage control. It covers special aspects of installation of large power transformers and fire protection measures taken while installing large power transformers. New approaches of fault finding, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of elec-tric motors are discussed, as well as concepts of circuit breaking and types of circuit breaker. This course also covers inspection and cleaning of circuit breakers. Earthing techniques, types of faults and their effects, effects of inadequate earthing and in-spection, concepts of SCADA, testing and maintenance of SCA-DA are covered. You will also focus on the power quality, issues with the power quality, role of UPS in maintaining power quality, installation and maintenance of UPS, variable frequency and battery.

Dr. Qais Alsafsasfeh is a Consultant, Executive Coach and Trainer specializing in Electrical Power Engineering, Strategic Management, and Organizational Leadership and Behaviour.Initially qualifying as an Electrical Engineering, he then ob-tained a Masters in Control Engineering from Jordan. In 2010 he completed his PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from Western Michigan University, United States of America. In 2012 he completed his Post Doc from Wollongong University, Australia Dr.Qais Alsafasfeh has an Over 16 years of experience in Power Systems, Control, Electric Machines, smart grid and renewable energy also he have a 5 years practical experience in 132/33/11kv Substation/ National Electrical Power Com-pany as Maintenance Engineer also he Authorized to make switching operations on high voltage network for (400, 132, 33, 11 & 0.4) kv. Dr. Alsafasfeh has published more than 21 papers in various international journals and conferences. Dr. Alsafasfeh is a member of the IEEE, the Jordan Engineers As-sociation, JEA, Jordan Renewable Energy Society, JRES, and Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization, IREO. He continues to deliver regular public and in-house training seminars and speak at international conferences. He has worked in United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, USA, Spain, Greece , Netherland, Australia, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United and Arab Emirates in different topics such as Switchgear, circuit breakers & Transmission Line Operation & Maintenance Technique, Power Systems Fault Analysis and Protection, Customer Service Metering and Billing, High volt-age Overhead Transmission line best practices, and Power System Modeling, Analysis and Control also in Engineering project management and financial analysis and forecasting for engineer.
