Websites and Apps (All Free!) ❖ NearPod  http://nearpod.com/

A presentation tool to engage every student! NearPod allows you to create and upload presentations that include interactive slides to check student learning. When using NearPod, each student views the presentation on their own device (computer, tablet, phone, etc.) and can respond to polls, quizzes, and more. (Website and app)

❖ Read&Write for Google Chrome  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/readwriteforgooglechro/inoeonmfapjbbkmdafoankkfajkcphgd?hl=enUS  This extension offers support for students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, and English

Language Learners. It turns web pages and web documents into interactive dictionaries, allowing the student to define, translate, and listen to the text on the page. (Website)

❖ Class Dojo  https://www.classdojo.com/ This app allows you to keep track of behavior and attendance quickly and efficiently. Simply

transfer your roster to Class Dojo and print out invite codes for your students. You can award positive points as well as negative for various classroom behaviors, making it a great tool for accountability. Students and their parents can log on to view the points and send messages to you. This app is particularly appealing to students in middle school, but I have had success with it in high school (sophomores and juniors) as well. The key to making it work for you is consistency. (Website and app)

❖ Achieve the Core  http://achievethecore.org/ & http://achievethecore.org/academicwordfinder/  This website contains free content for ELA and math, all aligned to Common Core. If you can

dream it, Achieve the Core most likely has it! My favorite aspect of the site is the academic word finder, which identifies and defines academic vocabulary on, below, and above grade level in any chunk of text. (Website)

❖ Haiku Deck  https://www.haikudeck.com/ This website is similar to PowerPoint and Prezi in that it is a tool to create a presentation.

However, Haiku Deck has its own image database and a simplified format, making it easier and quicker to create sleek presentations. This is great for having students create short presentations to share with peers during a class jigsaw. (Website)

❖ Touchcast  http://www.touchcast.com/ Touchcast is an intuitive videomaking tool that allows students to make professionallevel

videos all for free. The website also includes easy to follow tutorial videos for all aspects of their website. (Website and iOS app)

● News ELA  https://newsela.com/  An awesome site that includes thousands of articles about the current issues that are appropriate

for our students. This site also allows you to differentiate reading levels at the touch of a button for your various students and also includes a quiz for each reading level! (Website)
