An International Journal for Scientifi c Research on the Interaction between Agroecosystems and the Environment
Aims and scope. Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment publishes scientifi c articles dealing with the interface between agroecosystems and the natural environment, specifi cally how agriculture infl uences the environment and how changes in that environment impact agroecosystems. Preference is given to papers from experimental and observational research at the fi eld, system or landscape level, complemented as appropriate by dynamic and statistical modelling, that bridge scientifi c disciplines, integrate knowledge, and are placed in an international or wide comparative context.
The focus is on the following areas:· Biological and physical characteristics of agroecosystems including land, air, and water quality.· Ecology, diversity and sustainability of agricultural systems.· Relationships between agroecosystems and the natural environment.· Agroecosystem and global environmental changes including climate change and air pollution.· Ecological consequences of intensifi cation, soil degradation, waste application, irrigation, and mitigation options.· Environmental implications of agricultural land use and land use change.
All manuscripts are initially screened on their topic suitability and linguistic quality. The following topics are discouraged unless they provide new informationregarding processes operating at the agroecosystem-environment interface: inventory and survey analysis and impact assessment, including life cycle and emergy analysis; greenhouse or laboratory-based studies; development of models or methodologies; studies that are purely agronomic, socio-economic, or political.
Types of papers. The Journal publishes original scientifi c papers, short communications, scientifi c reviews, special issues containing edited papers dealing with a specifi c theme or based on selected conference presentations, and occasional editorials and commentaries at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.
A section of this journal is now published as the companion journal Applied Soil Ecology.
