DETROIT — Madonna, who was “in-spired” during a recent visit to Detroit, is donating money toward the construction of a new youth boxing gym and buying iPods, iPads and other supplies for students at a school in her hometown, according to a news release issued by the music icon’s publicist Monday.

The statement said Madonna’s donations to three Detroit organizations represent “the first phase of a long-term commitment to” the city.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will provide funding for a new facility for the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym, which provides free after-school boxing and edu-cational mentoring to dozens of children; buy new equipment, art and music supplies for the Detroit Achievement Academy; and help out The Empowerment Plan, a nonprofit that employs homeless women who sew gar-ments that are distributed to the homeless.

“I was deeply inspired by the efforts of so many people who I met who have dedicated themselves to helping the kids and adults in Detroit elevate themselves from the cycle of poverty. ... It was obvious to me that I had to get involved and be part of the solution to help Detroit recover,” Madonna said in the

It even includes heavy use of bicycles, although not silhouetted against the moon as in the iconic image from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film. “There is an alien and there are kids, who take him home, and bikes of course,” said writer Henry Gayden, who made the film -- out Wednesday -- with first-time feature director Dave Green.

“That’s what we really were going after and were inspired by,” he said in an inter-view, openly acknowledging the influences of films the 30-something filmmakers grew up watching.

One element that could not possibly be from 1982 is the relentless use of online social media, Google Maps and other tech-nological video tricks that set it firmly in the online age.

The film is made in the “found foot-age” style -- or rather, like a home movie put together by one of the three main boy protagonists after a spectacular all-night adventure.

From that point of view, it resembles another Spielberg production: 2011’s “Su-per Eigh” by director J.J. Abrams, while other clear inspirations include 1985’s “The Goonies.”

Teenage schoolboy and budding film-maker Tuck, with his pals Alex and Munch, live in a Nevada neighborhood condemned to demolition to make way for a freeway -- or so they think.

Their curiosity is sparked when odd sig-nals appear on cellphones, prompting them to set off on their bikes for one last adventure

together, the night be-fore they are due to say their farewells.

The signals lead them out into the desert, where they find the owl-like alien they dub Echo, who has been left stranded on planet Earth and who needs their help to find his way home.

LOS ANGELES - The similarities between “Earth to Echo” and “E.T.” are more than strik-ing. But reviews are mixed on whether it is an inspired updating of the Spielberg classic, or a cheap knockoff. The family fun movie, out in time for America’s 4th of July holiday weekend, recounts a group of children’s adventures when they find a cute-looking alien stranded on Earth and help it to return home, unbeknownst to their parents.

written statement, referencing the city’s efforts to emerge from the largest munici-pal bankruptcy in U.S. history.

“A piece of my heart will always be in Detroit, and I’m humbled to be able to give back to my community,” she said.

The statement does not say how much Madonna is contributing. A message seek-ing comment was left Monday with the singer’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg.

In early June, Madonna posted photos

of her visit to Detroit on Instagram. One of them shows her posing with some of the women who work at The Empowerment Plan.

Madonna, 55, is known for such hits as “Material Girl,” ‘’Like a Virgin,” ‘’Papa Don’t Preach” and “Vogue.” She grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills and entered the Rock Hall in 2008.

Public Relations of the hotel, Yudiana Lassia (Cia) revealed that cooking class was often performed and fol-lowed by foreign travelers. “Cooking class is one of the favorite activities here other than spa treatment. They usually consist of two to four people. The food prepared typically includes Balinese and Western cuisines,” she explained.

Those who participated in the cooking class, added Cia, as usual was taught by Chef Sumada or Chef Oki. They would be taught a wide variety of Balinese dishes such as chicken, side dishes and seafood. “Here, we are provid-ing the venue with an open air atmosphere, precisely at the Lawn Garden of Niksoma directly facing the beach,” she said.

“Other than providing an opportunity for foreign travelers to learn about Balinese cuisine, we also want to introduce Indonesian spices, traditional cuisine and traditional cooking methods in the eyes of foreign travel-ers,” said Cia. (ocha) IBP/File Photo

DENPASAr - In addition to becoming a regular ac-tivity of housewives, cooking can be a fun activity for foreign travelers who are holidaying in Bali. Have a look at foreign travelers where they look enthusiastic about taking cooking class at Bali Niksoma Boutique Hotel, recently.

The Control and Operational Division Head of Badung Mu-nicipal Police, Dewa Nyoman Oka, revealed his concern on Monday (Jun 30) that related to the operation of those prostitutes to other region was actually not just experienced by Badung government, but also by other regions. To Badung in particular, the concerns increasingly arose when the indication on the mode of prostitutes especially those operating in Kuta was getting di-verse after the closing of Dolly.

He said the result of interroga-tion to the prostitutes ensnared in the recent inspection was found if they applied new modes. One of them was by ‘using a car.’ The prostitutes in Kuta were touted to hang out with a special car. In one car, there could be four to eight prostitutes. The areas of opera-tion included the Jalan Dewi Sri, Jalan Nakula, Jalan Arjuna, Jalan Melasti, Jalan Raya Kuta and Jalan Kartika Plaza.

DENPASAR - A foreign citi-zen, Tobias Wolf, 22, was found dead as soaked in the gutter on Jalan Mumbak, Anyar hamlet, Kerobokan, North Kuta, Saturday (Jun 28). Ironically, the German citizen who was a student at the Udayana University died in the position of being toppled over by a motorcycle and get soaked.

The Chief of Badung Police

Traffic Affairs, Wayan Sudita, accompanied by Traffic Accident Unit Chief I Wayan Sendri said on Monday (Jun 30) if the incident originated from the victim rode a Suzuki Sky Wave motorcycle with license plate DK 3397 IT about 2:30 a.m. heading for home on Jalan Mumbak Gang Pulau Sing-kep No. 2 Kerobokan, North Kuta. “The victim rode the motorcycle at high speed from the north to the south,” he said.

Allegedly, he was sleepy when approaching the scene and curv-ing eastward on Jalan Mumbak. The victim even rode straight to fall into the gutter. Ironically, the student of the Udayana Univer-sity fell into the gutter and was toppled over by his motorcycle. “Allegedly, the victim fell down because of drowsiness. However, since it was early in the morning, no one saw the incident or gave a help, so the victim was soaked

in the water of the gutter,” he explained.

The victim was just found by residents around 05:00 a.m. When founding lifeless, the victim was immediately taken to Kapal Hos-pital and then referred to Sanglah Hospital. “Based on the investiga-tion, the victim died with an injury in the head,” he said.

When asked if the victim was drunk due to alcohol while riding, Sudita was unable to ascertain

because when the victim was found, he had been getting soaked in the water, so there was no al-coholic aroma smelt. In addition, police did not find any indication of crime because the victim’s valuables like wallet were still intact. Afterward, the victim’s parents already came to Bali. “As latest information, the victim’s parents have been arriving here. As planned, the victim will get an autopsy,” he said. (kmb35)

Badung worries on Dolly prostitutes’ exodus

Bali PostMANGUPUrA - Badung Municipal Police (Satpol PP)

intensified the population inspection and prostitute raid. It was taken in response to the exodus of Dolly prostitute house dwellers leaving Surabaya, chiefly to Bali. The con-cern increased because there were indications if the mode used by the prostitutes was increasingly diverse. Neverthe-less, so far the search indicated that no prostitutes becoming the exodus from Dolly were found.

The ranks of Badung Munici-pal Police then made a search and raid. The raid targeted the loca-tion of night entertainment to nar-row alleys around Kuta suspected to be used as hangout place by prostitutes, as the raid against prostitutes held on Saturday (Jun 28). There were six points alleged to become the operation target against the prostitutes.

Unfortunately, the raid of Municipal Police with the In-donesian Army and Police and the authority of Kuta subdistrict and village could not yet prove the new mode of the prostitute including the indication of pros-titutes as the exodus from Dolly. Dewa Oka himself suspected if the raid had leaked in advance because the raid targeting six locations was actually finding no activity.

The officers only managed to secure at least nine prosti-tutes. They were captured in small alleys around the Ground

Zero, Kuta. The officers conducted interrogation against the prostitutes who were captured. As a result, the commercial sex workers were not indicated as the exodus from Dolly. In addition to prostitutes, the of-

ficers also secured 30 beggars at the intersection of Jalan Imam Bonjol. They were netted in the raid and then repatriated to their respective homeland.

In addition to raid against the pros-

titutes, Dewa Oka said that his party had made coordination with relevant parties in order to ward off the exodus of prostitutes from Dolly. One of the efforts taken was by making regular population inspection. (kmb25)

The California technology titan will pull the plug on 10-year-old Orkut at the end of September.

“Over the past decade, You-Tube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off,” Google engineering director Paul Golgher said in a blog post.

“Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Or-kut’s growth, we’ve decided to bid Orkut farewell.”

Orkut was the result of a “20 percent project” in which Google workers got to spend a fifth of their time on ideas not necessarily related to their job responsibilities.

Orkut proved particularly pop-ular in Brazil, where two years ago it was eclipsed by social net-working powerhouse Facebook.

Google launched its Google+ social network in 2011 and has been slowly weaving it into other services.

Reuters STOCKHOLM - Selfie fans, your

life just got a little easier. A Swedish tech start-up has launched an app for Apple devices that lets people take photos of themselves without having to touch their screens.

Using touchless technology which it says is ideal for taking “selfies” or “groupies”, Crunchfish’s GoCam app lets users trigger photos or videos from a distance with just hand gestures.

Photos can be triggered from a dis-tance of up to 3 m (yards), it says.

The company, based in the south-ern Swedish city of Malmo, says the free GoCam app will be initially available in Sweden and Australia.

While gesture recognition has become more popular thanks to prod-ucts such as Microsoft’s Kinect for video games, the power-hungry tech-nology has yet to become mainstream in computers or mobile devices.

SAN FRANCISCO - Twitter announced Monday that it has cut a deal to buy mobile ad firm Tap Commerce to bolster money-making tools at the popular one-to-many messaging service.

San Francisco-based Twitter did not disclose how much it paid for Tap Commerce, which is located in New York City, but technol-ogy news website Recode.net reported the deal to be valued around $100 million.

Tap Commerce specializes in getting people to “re-engage” with ap-plications installed, then ignored, on smartphones or tablet computers.

“Advertisers spend aggressively to get new users, but re-activating existing or previous users can provide just as attractive a return on investment,” Twitter said in a blog post about the Tap Commerce acquisition.

“Together with the Tap Commerce team, Twitter will be able to offer mobile app marketers more robust capabilities for app re-engagement, tools and managed service solutions for real-time pro-grammatic buying, and better measurement capabilities.”

Twitter maintained that working with Tap Commerce would result in the service offering mobile gadget users better and more relevant ads in applications on devices.

A judicial official said Sarkozy was in custody in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. The official, who was not authorized to be publicly named discussing an ongoing investigation, would not provide further details.

French media reports say Sarkozy is being questioned in an investigation linked to financing for his 2007 presidential cam-paign. The case centers around whether Sarkozy and his lawyer were kept informed of insider information on the investigation by a friendly magistrate.

Sarkozy and his lawyer have denied wrongdoing. His lawyer, Thierry Herzog, is also being

held for questioning, according to French news reports.

Investigators are basing sus-picions at least in part on tapped phone conversations that Sarkozy has denounced and compared to actions by the secret police in the old East Germany.

The detention threatens to fur-ther cloud Sarkozy’s reputation as he considers a political comeback after his 2012 defeat by President Francois Hollande.

Allies from his conservative UMP party — which has been in leader-ship crisis because of questions over spending during Sarkozy’s 2012 presidential campaign — jumped to the former president’s defense.

“They have never imposed such treatment on a former president, with such a surge of hate,” lawmaker Christian Estrosi tweeted Tuesday morning.

Former French President Jacques Chirac was convicted in a corruption investigation in 2011, after he left office, but when he was questioned in the case he was not held in police custody. The Socialist government tried to stay above the fray.

“Justice officials are investigat-ing, they should carry out the task to the end. Nicolas Sarkozy is a citizen answerable to justice like any other,” government spokesman Stephane Le Foll said on i-Tele television.

KIEV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he was abandoning a unilateral cease-fire in the conflict with pro-Russian separatists and sending military forces back on the offensive after talks with Russia and European leaders failed to start a broader peace process. Poroshenko’s decision, announced shortly after the much-violated 10-day cease-fire expired, raises the prospect of renewed escalation of a conflict that has killed more than 400 people.

A grave Poroshenko made a televised address early Tuesday vowing that “we will attack, and we will free our country.” The cease-fire expired at 10 p.m. Monday. There was no immediate sign of a response from Russia early Tuesday.

The idea behind the truce announced June 20 was to give pro-Russian rebels a chance to disarm and to start a broader peace process including an amnesty and new elections. Poroshenko, a wealthy candy magnate elected May 25, had already extended the cease-fire from seven days. But rebels did not disarm, and the cease-fire was continually violated, with both sides blaming each other. Rebels called the cease-fire fake and did not yield to Poroshenko’s latest push to get them to turn over key border crossings with Russia and permit international monitoring.

“The unique chance to put the peace plan into practice was not realized,” Poroshenko said. “This happened because of the criminal actions of the fighters.” He said the militants violated the truce “more than a hundred times.” Poroshenko said the government was ready to go back to the cease-fire “at any moment, when we see that all sides are keeping to the basic points of the peace plan.”

“Peace is, was and will be my goal,” he added. “Only the instruments of achieving it are changing. ... The defense of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, of the security and lives of peaceful citizens, demands not just defensive but offensive action against the terrorist militants.”

Poroshenko said he made the decision after a meeting of the national security council. “After discussion of the situation, I, as commander in chief, took the decision not to continue the unilateral cease-fire.”

“Ending the cease-fire, this is our answer to terrorists, armed insurgents and looters, to all who mock the peaceful population, who are paralyz-ing the economy of the region ... who are depriving people of a normal, peaceful life,” Poroshenko said in his speech.

Bali PostDENPASAR - Price fluctuation

of basic necessities or groceries every Ramadan and the Eid has not received serious attention from the government. As a result, con-sumer society has always been the victim of free market mechanism. Consumer Protection Foundation (YLPK) of Bali Chapter judged the price of basic commodities soaring up for several times had become a burden and was inhu-mane.

“So far, the government is powerless to control the price of such basic commodities. It lets the prices of basic necessities go up without control. Just imagine, the prices of basic necessities such as peppers, onions and meat increase up to several-fold only within a few days,” said Chairman of the YLPK Bali, Putu Armaya.

It was said the changes in price taking place very quickly happened as the prices were de-termined by market mechanism. “The government should intervene in determining the price. It has been undertaken by the Malaysian government and a number of other countries,” he said.

According to him, the market operation by government con-ducted all this time was only a checking. The market operation could not come down the market price having been established in the market. “The market operation will not run effective because it is just checking the market price, while the price remains high,” he said.

It was said the price of basic necessities would rise every reli-gious holidays. Today, when enter-ing the fasting month, the price rose high enough. After the Eid, the price would decline. “It just slightly diminishes, but it will be impossible to return to the original price,” he explained.

Then, who would get the most benefits from this free market condition? He said the specula-tors would be most benefited by this condition. “They are very comfortable with this condition when there is no control from the government. Inevitably, the gov-ernment must become the price determinant for a number of basic necessities,” he said.

When asked about the presence of cartel in the prices of basic ne-cessities, Armaya stated that it had happened since long time ago. “We are currently waiting for the perfor-mance of the Commission for the Supervision of Business Competi-tion (KPPU) in revealing cartels. The commission should be able to prove if they declare there is indication of cartel,” he said. (kmb27)

As seen at Yeh Mampeh hamlet, Songan village, Kintamani, Monday (Jun 30), some chili plants owned by farmers were left untreated. Actually, the chili had been ready to harvest. Farmers even preferred ignoring their chili to harvesting for sale.

According to one of the chili farmers at local village, Wikarsa,

some farmers seemed to deliber-ately choose not to harvest their chili because the price dropped sharply to reach IDR 2,000 per kilogram. He admitted, the price slumped drastically compared to several weeks earlier reaching IDR 75,000 per kilogram. He was reluc-tant to harvest as the price of chili at farmer level was not comparable

to the current high cost of cultiva-tion. “Most farmers are reluctant to harvest it because the price is too cheap,” he said.

In contrast to chili, the price of some basic commodities at some markets in Bangli had skyrocketed. The highest increase occurred to the price of chicken meat, egg and onion that rose in the range of 20-50

percent. The price of broiler meat reached IDR 28,000-30,000 per ki-logram from previous price at IDR 24,000 per kilogram. Chicken egg also showed price hike from IDR 800 to IDR 1,000 per piece. Mean-while, a significant price increase occurred to onion from IDR 15,000 to IDR 25,000 per kilogram.

According to a number of trad-ers at the Kidul Market, the price hike to some basic commodities had happened since a week before the fasting month. The price was estimated to rise gradually in har-mony with the coming of the Eid festivity. (ina)

BANGLI - By and large, the price of some basic commodities has started to increase by degrees when enter-ing Ramadan. Uniquely, it does not happen to the price of red chilies. The price of this condiment ingredient has now been down to reach IDR 2,000 per kilogram. As a result, a number of chili farmers in Kintamani were reluctant to harvest chilies and preferred to make them dry up in the trees being ready for harvest.

BUENOS AIRES — Argentina will likely miss a bond payment on Monday, setting it on a course for a possible cata-strophic default. Argentina owes an interest payment to the majority of its creditors, but the government has a 30-day grace period after Monday to avoid going into its second default in 13 years.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently turned down Argentina’s attempt to block a lower court ruling that it must pay hedge funds that own bonds left over from its record $100 billion default in 2001.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Griesa urged Argentina on Friday to continue negotiating with the funds that refused to participate in debt swaps in 2005 and 2010. The judge also said it would be illegal for Argentina to make a payment to the majority of its bondholders without also paying more than $1.5 billion to the holdouts.

Griesa appointed a special master last week to facilitate talks because Argentina indicated through its lawyers that it planned to negotiate for the first time with the U.S. bondholders.

President Cristina Fernandez has long

refused to negotiate with the plaintiffs led by New York billionaire Paul Singer’s NML Capital Ltd., who spent more than a decade litigating for payment in full rather than agreeing to provide Argentina with debt relief. But Fernandez has been backed into a corner by NML Capital’s payment plan.

The holdout creditors accused Argentina on Monday of refusing to begin talks.

“Argentina’s professed willingness to negotiate with its creditors has proven to be just another broken promise. NML is at the table, ready to talk, but Argentina has refused to negotiate any aspect of this dispute,” Elliott Management, which runs NML said in a statement.

“There are no negotiations underway, there have been no negotiations, and Ar-gentina refuses to commit to negotiations in the future. Argentina’s government has chosen to put the country on the brink of default. We sincerely hope it reconsiders this dead-end path.”

But later on Monday, Argentina’s econ-omy ministry issued a statement saying it would send a delegation to New York to meet with the debt negotiation mediator on July 7.

“Argentina reiterates its intention to

negotiate in fair and legal conditions that take into account the interests of 100 per-cent of the creditors, which means that the restructured bonds are allowed to col-lect on the deadline,” the statement said without specifying who will be part of the delegation.

Fernandez wants equal treatment for the more than 92 percent of creditors who have been collecting in “exchange bonds” since writing off more than two-thirds of their defaulted bonds’ face value in past debt swaps. And she also wants the participation of the remaining 7 percent of holdouts who didn’t sue Argentina or who weren’t part of the winning case.

Paying the hedge funds that Fernandez often calls “vultures” in full would likely trigger lawsuits from other bondholders demanding to be paid on similar terms. Argentina’s government estimates that the liability could run up to $15 billion.

With nearly $29 billion in foreign reserves, Argentina appears to have the money to pay its bills. But those reserves include loans to other countries, deposits with the IMF and other assets that aren’t easily used. Take those away, and Argentina has roughly $16 billion on hand.

Analysts believe the worst for the economy is over as recent “mini-stimulus” measures kick in, but said Beijing may have to announce more stimulus measures in coming months to offset the increasing drag from the cooling property sector.

The official Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), published by the National Bureau of Statistics, hit a six-month high of 51 in June, in line with market expectations and up from May’s 50.8.

The final HSBC/Markit purchasing manag-ers’ index (PMI) for June rose to 50.7 from May’s 49.4, surging past the 50-point level that separates growth in activity from contraction for the first time since December.

“The economy has turned the corner, but it will take time for the recovery to become more broad-based. Infrastructure investment needs to pick up more strongly in the coming months to lift demand,” said Julia R Wang, an economist at HSBC in Hong Kong.

“Meanwhile, the slowdown in the property market continues to pose downside risks to growth in the second half of the year. We expect both fiscal and monetary policies to remain accommodative until the recovery is sustained.”

The government has unveiled a series of modest stimulus measures in recent months to give a lift to economic growth, which dipped to a 18-month low in the first quarter.

Such measures have included targeted reserve requirement cuts for some banks to encourage more lending, quicker fiscal disbursements and hastening construction of railways and public housing projects.

On Monday, China’s banking regulator an-nounced changes in the way it calculate banks’ loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) to help channel more credit into the real economy.

The economy has started showing signs of stabilisation since May as such supportive steps kicked in. Growth in factory output, retail sales and fixed asset investment all either met or beat market expectations last month, with retail sales notching its best showing in five months.

As one of the earliest pieces of Chinese data released each month, the improved PMI will bolster market expectations that the economy is regaining some traction, after growth hit an 18-month low of 7.4 percent between January and March.

TABANAN - Aside from having trinity temples, the Ole Customary Village, Marga Dauh Puri, Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan, also has an old temple standing amidst the local rice fields. Since many decades ago, the temple ever did not have support-ing devotees because it was left by residents in the vicinity. However, this year the temple is restored where the inauguration along with the an-niversary ritual was held on Buda Wage Klawu.

Based on a story of word to mouth, the Sengawang Temple or also known as Dalem Sengawang Temple poses a temple standing in the middle of an area called Sengawang hamlet for-merly inhabited just by nine people.

It is said that once upon a time there was an internal conflict in the royal family of Perean Kingdom so the king left the palace with a preg-nant wife. They did not know where to go. At dawn, they heard the sound of roosters. Afterward, the king was attempting to look for the source of sound. In fact, it was from the Sen-gawang hamlet. At that hamlet, the king asked for a political asylum or protection. The hamlet then estab-lished a kingdom at Marga, where previously it was a forest. Residents of Sengawang hamlet were then ap-pointed the guards and subject of the kingdom. Allegedly, it happened dur-ing the era of Udayana Kingdom.

A local leader doubling as former chief of Ole Hamlet, Wayan Gerda, told that due to a fight between the local residents and those from the surrounding villages that looked

Suriadnyana added that consider-ing the AEC had something to do with the freedom for the entry of goods and services into the ASEAN member countries, the alignments of the government to local employers through the rules should be im-mediately realized. For example, it was required the certification on the standards of goods while for services and human resources were required the competency requirement and local policy related to the protection

of culture.“Especially in Bali, it requires

standard policy for the MSME products and exemption for the ap-plication of patent right and special labeling certification in Bali such as the halal certificate. In general, as we are aware we definitely worry about the impacts of the AEC. However, other people may be indifferent as they have nothing to do with it. As a result, they will certainly keep quiet and relaxed,” said Chairman of the

LDP Balicertif.Actually, whoever the buyers

were, whether the local or outsiders, it would be still felt when our markets were flooded by cheap and quality products from outside. As a result, the sales declined and the ability to pay debts reduced. Therefore, the SME businessmen in Bali were re-quired to increase quality of service and presentation in order to achieve high competitiveness. In addition, the human resources of Bali should

be aware if they did not want to be marginalized.

Chairperson of the Center for Voca-tional Education, Udayana University, Dr. Putu Saroyini Piartrini, said the regulation should encourage all par-ties to strive in order to strengthen and empower the SMEs. Regulation with the nuance of restrictions to resource mobilization could not be applied. On that account, the government and society should play an active role to educate the SMEs. In addition, the government should provide access to market information as widely as possible and provide equal op-portunities in procurement of goods and services as well as facilitate the participation of SMEs in the estab-lishment of a global supply chain.

Meanwhile, according to one of the boards of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of Bali Chapter, Gede Semadi, if such condition was not prevented by local government, local employers would certainly get marginalized. Moreover, there was a regional autonomy where local government had an important role to control the entry of foreign goods.

He hoped the important thing to do by local businessman was to remain consistent and skillfully look at the situation and act smartly. “Unavoid-ably, we will get the impacts of the economic globalization where the competition will not only take place locally, but also regionally and glob-ally,” said Semadi. Facing AEC

Government must prepare regulation to secure local entrepreneursBali Post

DENPASAR - The government was expected to make various efforts in facing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015. One of which was preparing the regulations to secure the entrepreneurs of Bali. Otherwise, the SME products of Bali would be battered by foreign products offering good quality and cheaper price. The SME observer, Gede Suriadnyana, explained the matter.

for help to Mengwi, the Sengawan residents moved northwardly. Later, the areas were known as the hamlet of Bun, Samuan, Adeng, and Ole. Having been left by all residents, the Sengawang Temple did not have supporting devotees. Nevertheless, the temple was constantly believed to have sacredness and uniqueness. It was considered to nurture the subak existing in the surrounding area. Even, the temple was always considered to have given a bless-

ing of fertility to rice fields in the vicinity.

A farmer of Subak Sengawang, Wayan Sumajaya, once heard about various myths at issue related to the temple. Once upon a time, almost all the subak territories in Marga and Tunjuk area were attacked by rats. Paddy plants at Subak Sengawang were not attacked by those rats. So since then, all residents at Ole cus-tomary village believed that they may not sell their land within the subak

territory because the land area was considered special.

Another uniqueness of the Subak Sengawang was that no one might perform evil deeds or say rude. Vener-ated deity in the Sengawang Temple did not like people who did so. For example, one day there was a person saying rude and he was suddenly at-tacked by bees.

In reality, there were no bee nests at the surrounding area. Blessings of the Sengawang Temple had also

been known by people beyond the Ole customary village, whereas the temple was not known. For some times, there were some people from outside the customary village com-ing to invoke herbal medicine and paid for it. The people claimed to know the temple from his dreams. “Many people from outside the vil-lage suddenly would like to present offering to the temple because they know the temple from a dream,” said Sumajaya. The surplus was slightly higher than expected at $70 million, ac-cording to the statistics agency, after a deficit of almost $2 billion in April as exports were hit by a controversial mineral ore export ban.

Inflation slowed further to 6.70 percent year-on-year in June after spiking last year following a rise in fuel prices, the agency said, and a manufacturing activity survey hit a new record high.

Some good news will be a relief for policymakers after GDP growth in the first quarter slipped to an an-nualised 5.21 percent, its slowest pace since late 2009, due in large

part to the ban on shipment of some unprocessed mineral ores.

The trade balance in particular is closely watched by investors, and economists said the surplus would be welcome at a time of high uncer-tainty before an increasingly tight presidential election next week.

“While $70 million is not much of a surplus to write home about, the fact that exports managed to outdo imports this time round nonetheless comes at a very fortunate time,” said Wellian Wiranto, an economist at Singapore’s OCBC Bank.

He added that with the “increas-ingly thick atmosphere of uncertain

anticipation” before the July 9 poll, the number will be seen as a “relative positive” by the markets.

Ex-general Prabowo Subianto has mounted a strong comeback against long-time favourite Joko Widodo, whose lead has dwindled to a few percentage points in many surveys.

Meanwhile manufacturing activ-ity expanded, HSBC’s manufactur-ing purchasing managers’ index for Indonesia indicated.

It climbed to 52.7 in June from 52.4 in May, the highest reading since the survey started in April 2011. A reading above 50 indicates growth and below 50 contraction.

JAKARTA - The former top judge of Indonesia’s constitutional court was jailed for life Monday for accept-ing more than $5 million in bribes to influence rulings, in the country’s latest high-profile corruption case.

A judge in Jakarta handed down the unusually tough sentence, and said that by accepting kickbacks to sway deci-sions on local election disputes, Akil Mochtar had severely damaged the constitutional court’s standing.

“The defendant was the chairman of a high-level state institution that was the last bastion for people seeking justice,” presiding judge Suwidya told a special anti-corruption court.

“His actions have resulted in the collapse of the authority of the constitutional court.”

Mochtar, 53, described the sentence as “unfair” and said he would appeal.

He was caught red-handed in Oc-tober in a sting by anti-corruption investigators as he was about to accept around three billion rupiah ($250,000) in bribes from a businessman and a lawmaker, according to prosecutors.

He is the latest in a series of top public servants to become embroiled in a cor-ruption case, with the former top energy regulator and several government minis-

ters among those accused of graft. However his case was the most shock-

ing in recent times, as the constitutional court had been considered one of the country’s cleanest institutions.

After a lengthy final hearing Monday that ran into the night, judge Suwidya an-nounced that Mochtar had been “proven legally and convincingly guilty” of corruption and money-laundering and handed him a life sentence.

He had accepted around $5.4 million in bribes in cases linked to regional election disputes, according to prosecutors.

One of the key roles of the constitution-al court, created in 2001, is to decide on disputes in local and national elections.

But following the Mochtar scandal, the court ruled that it should no longer have responsibility for deciding local poll dis-putes, although it will continue to decide on such cases until the government has issued a new law.

The court also hears cases about the constitution and rules on any attempt to impeach the president.

Indonesia is consistently ranked one of the world’s most corrupt countries.

NGO Transparency International ranked Indonesia 114th out of 177 countries and ter-ritories in its annual corruption perceptions index last year. A number one ranking means the least corrupt.

AntaraSURABAYA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono bid farewell to

the police during a ceremony held here on Tuesday to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the Indonesian Police (Polri), commonly termed as Bhayangkara Day.

“I beg to say goodbye to the ranks of the National Police at the Bhayang-kara Day ceremony as this is the last time for me to attend this ceremony as the president,” President Yudhoyono stated in his written address, read out by East Java Police Chief Inspector General Unggung Cahyono.

In the statement, Yudhoyono reminded the entire nation’s police force to improve their overall performance and capabilities in order to face the harder challenges ahead.

He also called on them to maintain their professionalism in giving better services and protection to the public and to offer them a sense of security.

“Give your best possible service to the public by arresting the terror-ists and perpetrators of national, transnational, and cyber crimes,” the president emphasized.

The head of state opined that the safe and peaceful legislative election held last April was inseparable from the outstanding performance of the National Police.

“To show the world that Indonesia is more mature in democracy during the upcoming presidential election, the police should build good coopera-tion with the General Elections Commission (KPU), Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and other election organizers, and enforce neutrality as the members of Polri,” he noted.

Besides bidding farewell, the president also congratulated Polri on com-memorating the 68th Bhayangkara Day and extended his gratitude to the police for supporting him during the ten years of his government.

In this Monday, June 30, 2014 photo, former chief of the Constitutional Court Akil Mochtar, left, walks with his lawyer Adardam Achyar upon arrival for his sentencing hearing at the anti-graft court in Jakarta, Indonesia. The court has sentenced the coun-try’s former top judge to life imprisonment for corruption and money laundering.

To that end, we needed strong regulations to protect the public. “Indeed, we cannot prohibit goods, services and people from entering Bali, but the government is obliged to protect with regulation, other than with the certificate of competency,” he said.

Director of the Institute for Tourism Certification of In-donesia, Ketut Putra Suarthana, previously said that all the workforce of Bali were really competent. However, their com-petency should be proved. In the Tourism Law No.10/2009 section 55 and 54 precisely defined that any tourism workforce should have a certificate of competency. It was strengthened by Presidential Decree No.25/2012 which required the ownership of competency certification issued by the Institute of Tourism Certification (LSP). With these rules, the government had tar-geted 10,000 prospective workers having got approval would be financed this year. “But, we are also assigned to check outside Bali and throughout Indonesia. So far, a total of 6,000 tourism workers have been certified in Bali,” he said.

Putra Suarthana asserted that workforce coming to Bali should be limited by re-examining their competency. As Director of the LSP, he also asked the students who had completed their tourism education to take competency test. “This year, the Min-istry of Tourism has provided competency test to 1,200 people. I ask 5,000 people from the BNSP,” he said. (kmb27)

The protest comes days after nearly 800,000 residents voted in a mock referendum aimed at bolster-ing support for full democracy. The peaceful crowds carried banners and posters calling for democracy as they marched through the center of the city.

Ahead of the rally, a small group of protesters burned a copy of a policy document, or “white pa-per,” released by China’s Cabinet earlier this month that enraged many residents. It said that Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy is not inherent but is authorized by the central government. “Af-ter China’s State Council issued the white paper, the Basic Law

became a figurehead,” said activ-ist Derek Chan, referring to the mini-constitution that guarantees that Hong Kong can maintain a high degree of control over its own affairs under the principle of “one country, two systems.”

Chan and other protesters carried a mock coffin and banner reading “RIP Hong Kong” outside a flag-raising ceremony attended by offi-cials to mark the anniversary of the handover of power from London to Beijing on July 1, 1997.

China’s Communist leaders have pledged to start allowing Hong Kongers to vote for the city’s leader in 2017, though they insist that candidates be vetted by a Beijing-

friendly committee like the one that has hand-picked all leaders since the handover.

But pro-democracy activists, encouraged by the strong turnout for their informal referendum, vow to shut down the city’s financial district if the government fails to come up with electoral reforms that meet international standards.

The fallout over the policy docu-ment has added to the widening rift between with the mainland. Hong Kongers’ mistrust of the central government in Beijing and its poli-cies toward the city has spiked to record highs, according to opinion surveys released Monday by two universities.

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s new parliament ended its inaugural session Tuesday after failing to make any progress in choosing a new prime minister even as the country faces a militant blitz that threatens to rip it apart and a spike in violence that made June the deadliest month in at least two years. Acting speaker Mahdi al-Hafidh called off the proceedings after most of the 328-member legislature’s Sunni and Kurdish lawmakers did not return after a short break. Their absence deprived parliament of a quorum.

The entire session, from the opening national anthem to al-Hafidh’s final words, lasted less than two hours. The impasse prolongs what has already been days of intense jockeying as political blocs try to decide on the posts of prime minister, president and speaker of parliament.

The country’s top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, urged lawmakers last week to agree on the three posts before Tuesday’s meeting in hopes of averting months of wran-gling that could further destabilize the country. But Tuesday’s session dashed the prospects — always farfetched — of a quick compromise.

Embattled incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki — whose bloc won the most seats in April elections — is under intense pressure to step aside. Sunnis and Kurds accuse him of breaking promises, and long-held Sunni grievances are seen as one of the main factors driving resurgent militancy in the coun-try. The need for a new government that can keep the country together is urgent following the recent offensive spearheaded by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an al-Qaida breakaway group that has overrun much of northern and western Iraq.

The threat posed to Iraq by the recent militant offensive was underlined by new casualty figures released Tuesday by the United Nations that put June’s death toll at 2,417 — making it the deadliest month so far this year.

The figures issued by the U.N. mission to Iraq include 1,531 civilians and 886 security forces. UNAMI added that 2,287 Iraqis, including 1,763 civilians, were wounded.

Headman of Bedulu village, Ketut Rinata, said the Bedulu village was famous as an archaeological tourism village due to hav-ing many ancient relics. Cliff Temple, for instance, posed a tourist attraction located at Tegallinggah hamlet and had an ancient human relief which included in the archaeo-logical site. This attraction was located on the banks of the Petanu River.

To get there, visitors must pass through paddy fields widely functioned as pond of shrimp, catfish and other fish. “Although it has not been managed definitely, this historical attraction is frequented by travel-ers, especially students after attending their semester test,” he said.

Yeh Pulu relief also serves as an interest-ing historical object. To achieve the relief, visitors must walk through the steps accom-panied by the gurgling sound of water. As soon as coming into the split gates of the re-lief along 25 meters with a height of 2 meters, the aura of the site is increasingly felt. The relief depicts the daily life in the forest and community activities in the ancient times.

This relief was found in 1951 by a retainer

of Ubud. Based on the style of sculpture, the relief comes from the fourteenth century AD. Yeh Pulu is located at Batu Lumbang hamlet. Many travelers from China, Japan and Europe like to visit this site because they have been familiar to perform meditation in cliff caves.

The most unique relief and mostly visited by travelers is the Goa Gajah or elephant cave. This relief was found in 1951 by the Dutch man named Krisjman. The cave has T-shape and a short inscription on the right side wall of the entrance written in Kadiri Quadrant script derived from the eleventh century AD. In front of the cave lies a pool and shower statue, where each of which consists of three showers. The water flow-ing through the shower is very clear. It is considered as holy water. In one of the build-ings is stored the Hariti statue (Mrs. Brayut and guard statue). Goa Gajah is the most frequently visited by travelers.

At the location also sits the ascetic Ar-juna temple that holds the archaeological remains in the form of dolmen, a miniature of temple and Ganesh statue sanctified as a medium of worship.

Running to the net to shake hands with his French victim, Djokovic’s celebrations were briefly put on hold as he discov-ered that his opponent had the temerity to challenge what the top seed thought was the shot of the match. Seconds later the deafen-ing roar that went on and on under Centre Court’s closed roof left no doubt to those inside, or outside, the hallowed arena about which way Hawkeye’s call had gone.

The 6-3 6-4 7-6 (5) victory earned Djokovic his 21st suc-cessive grand slam quarter-final date - his sixth at Wimbledon - and a last-eight showdown with Croatia’s Marin Cilic. “I am feel-ing good. I had two days off and recovered a little bit,” Djokovic told reporters after registering his 35th consecutive victory against French players.

“I had a couple of tough match-es last week, especially the second round against Radek Stepanek, so

it was good to win this in straight sets against a quality player like Jo and I am looking forward to the next challenge.”

When Djokovic and Tsonga faced off for the first time, in the Australian Open final in 2008, many thought it was the start of a rivalry that would lead to both players battling it out for the big prizes for years to come.

Those predictions turned out to be only 50 percent accurate. While the Serb has taken his grand slam title haul to six, the Frenchman has failed to reach another major final.

One Side RompTo add to his woes his rivalry

with Djokovic has turned into a one-sided romp. In their previous meeting at the French Open Tson-ga won only six games. If Tsonga had pinned his hopes on Djokovic still feeling the effects of Friday’s painful tumble he was left sorely

disappointed. Not only was his left shoulder in perfect working order, the top seed cranked up the power as he outgunned Tsonga with a se-ries of double-fisted backhands.

Djokovic’s serve was also on fire as he chased an 11th succes-sive win against the 14th seed. The Serb dominated the opening two sets before Tsonga sprung to life in the third and threatened to take the upper hand in the set when he held two break points in the eighth game.

Djokovic snuffed out those chances with some powerful serving and a few minutes later the blazing crosscourt winner left the 2011 champion bellowing in relief.

“I did really well from the start to the end especially in the third set where I thought he elevated his level and he started serving a very high percentage first serve, very strong, all angles,” said Djokovic who has not won a slam since the 2013 Australian Open.

“It was difficult to get the return back in play but I managed to save a couple of break points, crucial ones, get myself in the tiebreak and wait for the opportunity to be presented. “The only opportunity I had was on second serve on 6-5 and I used it. I went for the shot,” added Djokovic.

LONDON - If there were fears Novak Djokovic’s double-fisted backhands may malfunction after a heavy fall on his shoulder three days ago, they were allayed on Monday by a show-stopping crosscourt service return on match point. That effort left Jo-Wilfried Tsonga pray-ing for a Hawkeye miracle - after the linesman and umpire failed to agree on whether the ball had kissed the line - while the wide-eyed Serb nodded his head and lapped up the cheers with outstretched arms.

PARIS — Tour de France defending champion Chris Froome is feeling the pressure ahead of Saturday’s start to the 2014 race. This 101st Tour might seem to favor Team Sky and Froome, but he will have a lot on his mind during the three-week race which starts in Leeds, in the northern English county of Yorkshire. The Kenyan-born Brit is dealing with a perception among some fans that he had a hand in Sky’s decision to bench his popular compatriot and teammate Sir Bradley Wiggins, who won the 2012 Tour.

He also was caught up in a recent doping firestorm. Froome, who insists he has never used banned drugs, said in an interview that he cried privately over scrutiny of his use of a medication for a chest infection during a recent race, even though it was permitted because he had a doctor’s note. That incident showed the sport is still hounded by doping suspicions after a succession of scandals over the past generation — highlighted by the drug use and cheating by Lance Armstrong and others in his era.

Froome also faces the little matter of two-time Tour champ Alberto Contador, who last won in 2009. The 31-year-old Spaniard has been in strong form and has made winning this Tour a top priority.

Cycling’s doping shadows will also be cast upon Contador, who lost his 2010 title in a doping case. His Tinkoff-Saxo teammate Ro-man Kreuziger, who finished fifth last year — right behind Contador — was dropped by the team because of anomalies in his biological passport in 2011 and 2012, when the Czech rider was with the Kazakh team Astana. Kreuziger has denied any wrongdoing.

On the way to winning the Tour de Romandie in Switzerland in early May, Froome benefited from a “therapeutic use exemption” — a doctor’s note — allowing him to use corticosteroid prednisolone against a chest infection. The UCI, cycling’s governing body, and the World Anti-Doping Agency agreed that Froome had followed the rules. But critics alleged he hadn’t, and the UCI said last week that it’s reviewing its TUE procedures.

To many cycling fans, last year’s Tour was a bit underwhelming — despite the revelation of Froome. He stamped his leadership on the race in stage 8, in a show of uncompromising dominance.

The 2014 Tour may be more of a challenge. In its 21 stages, over 3,664 kilometers (2,277 miles) in England, France, Belgium and Spain, only one time trial awaits.

GIANYAR - The name of this village is actually not so strange either for travelers or archaeologists. Yes, this ancient village of Bedulu is located in Blahbatuh, Gianyar County, or about 14 km away from Denpasar. This site stores a lot of historical rel-ics originating from the XI century. Various ancient and unique traditions remain to be preserved up to these days. Social life of the community is still beautiful and harmonious so it has its own charm.

Neuer was beaten once but Algeria’s goal came as extra time ran out, too late to threaten Monday’s 2-1 victory that sent the Germans to the World Cup quarterfinals for the ninth straight time. “In the regular 90 minutes, we kept a blank sheet,” Neuer said.

Only just, and only thanks to Neuer. The Bayern Munich keeper made some fine saves on the line

but his rushes far out of the penalty area, clearing the ball with his feet and even his head, had the fans of the edge of their seats. His risky exits, however, are nothing new. “I haven’t changed my style,” Neuer said. “I often play like that in Bayern or the national team.”

He hasn’t always been successful, but against Algeria he made no wrong move. “Manuel was excellent, especially how he dealt with those long balls that were deep and dangerous,” Germany coach Joachim Loew said. “He cleared them all at the last second and that’s his great contribution today.”

Germany fans must have momentarily stopped breathing when Neuer ran out of the box to take over as the right back and foil Algeria’s most dangerous forward, Islam Slimani, in the ninth minute.

In the 28th, Neuer rushed out to clear before Sofiane Feghouli got to the ball. And in the 71st, he raced out to head away a dan-gerous ball in front of Slimani.

Then there was a stunning save against Feghouli in the 89th that could have been Algeria’s ticket to the quarterfinals. But not with Neuer in, or even out, of goal.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Nigeria and Algeria made World Cup his-tory for Africa and now leave with their heads held high. Despite tenacious resistance, Africa’s last representatives were sent home on Monday by France and Germany. Those two former champions will

next play each other on Friday in Rio de Janeiro. That quarterfinal

means Europe is guaranteed at least one semifinalist in this World Cup that

has smiled on the Americas, supplier of eight of the last 16 teams.

With exceptional saves, goalkeep-ers again starred both in France’s 2-0 win over Nigeria and Germany’s 2-1 marathon against an Algerian team whose bravura has been among the many revelations of this surprise-packed tournament.

This was Algeria’s first taste of World Cup knockout football, having never advanced from the group stages in three previous attempts.

Germany needed extra time to win

after both teams failed to score in two absorbing halves, and it let Abdel-moumene Djabou get a goal back in the dying seconds, doing little for the three-time champion’s credentials as a favorite to lift the trophy again on July 13.

France, winner in 1998, looks the sharper of the two. Germany’s tac-tics of pushing players forward and leaving a large chunk of defending to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer would almost certainly undo it against a stronger attack.

BRASILIA - Paul Pogba’s goalscoring display in France’s 2-0 win over Nigeria showcased how talented the young midfielder is, with coach Didier Deschamps hoping to see those skills on a more regular basis. The Juventus player headed France in front in the 79th minute of their World Cup last 16 clash at the Brasilia national stadium on Monday to cap a man-of-the-match display after reacting well to being dropped earlier in the tournament.

The 21-year-old had been fortunate to escape a red card in the 3-0 opening Group E win over Honduras and subsequently lost his place in the side for the 5-2 demolition of Switzerland. He returned against Ecuador but another indifferent performance put his starting place in jeopardy against the Nigerians.

Deschamps, though, kept faith and was duly rewarded as Pogba continued to drive forward from midfield on Monday, almost scoring a brilliant volley in the first half before bagging the crucial opener in the second. “He showed his potential today,” Deschamps told reporters.

“Maybe he played a bit more simply today and all the credit is due to him. “I did not doubt his ability and he played a remarkable match. I hope he can do it on a regular basis now.”

TOUGHEN HIM UP

Pogba’s talents have never been in question. He oozes class and is the complete box-to-box midfielder, compared routinely with former France great Patrick Vieira. But while Vieira was able to churn out an endless run of great display’s the same can’t be said of Pogba - yet. Fans of Juventus may disagree, though, as he has quickly forced himself into the starting lineup of the Italian champions after leaving Manchester United in 2012.

That transfer away from England saw the Frenchman described as “the one Alex Ferguson should not have let go”. The move to Italy also brought questions, with Pogba outspoken in his criticism of former United manager Ferguson for not giving him a starting berth and the chance to shine.

Firing out criticism often draws it in return and the young midfielder has seen plenty, especially when pundits believe he isn’t performing at the level he should. “He is young. I think it’s normal he gets criticised, it’s part of a top player’s life,” Deschamps said. “I think it will toughen him up a bit.” After an all-action display, Nigerians might say he is tough enough.

SALVADOR - Cameroon are to investigate claims that seven of their players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup, the country’s football federation FECAFOOT said on Monday. FECAFOOT said it had instructed its ethics commit-tee to probe allegations of what it described as “fraud” in their three games in Brazil, particularly a 4-0 loss to Croatia in Manaus in their

second Group A game.“Recent allegations of fraud

around Cameroon’s three 2014 World Cup games, especially Cam-eroon v Croatia, as well the existence of “seven bad apples (in our national team)” do not reflect the values and principles promoted by our admin-istration,” FECAFOOT said in a statement.

“We wish to inform the general public that, though not yet contacted by FIFA in regards to this affair, our

administration has already instructed its Ethics Committee to further inves-tigate these accusations.

“We are strongly committed to employ all means necessary to re-solve this disruptive matter with the shortest delay,” FECAFOOT’s in-terim president Joseph Owona said.

The allegations against Camer-oon came from convicted fraudster Wilson Raj Perumal, who had ac-curately forecast the result and the fact a player would be sent off in a

discussion with German magazine Der Spiegel.

Cameroon midfielder Alex Song was sent off before halftime for a needless elbow in the back of Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic near the halfway line, leaving his side to battle with 10 men for the majority of the game. The game was also marred by an incident near the end when Benoit Assou-Ekotto attempted to head-butt team mate Benjamin Moukandjo.

Cameroon’s federation subse-

quently launched an investigation into the incident but has yet to give any update on possible disciplinary action. The latest controversy adds to a long list for African teams at the World Cup.

Both Ghana and Nigeria, now out of the tournament, were embroiled in disputes over money in Brazil. Ghana had two players sent home, Sulley Muntari for hitting an official and Kevin-Prince Boateng for allegedly swearing at the coach.

TERESOPOLIS - Brazil striker Neymar may be spared from training to give his thigh and knee injuries a chance to heal but he is expected to be fit for Friday’s World Cup quarter-final against Colombia, team doctor Jose Luiz Runco said on Monday.

The Barcelona striker was inef-fective during much of Brazil’s last-16 win over Chile after he suffered early knocks on the right knee and left thigh.

However, although he left the

field for treatment, he played on and scored Brazil’s final penalty in the 3-2 shootout win after the match ended 1-1 after extra time.

Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari said the injuries were the reason for his un-usually quiet showing and the 22-year old will be allowed to miss training if necessary.

Scolari spared most of the first team from training on Monday, preferring to have them do light gym work at the squad’s base in Teresopolis, around 100 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro.

Goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who was

the hero of the win after saving two Chilean penalties, was the only first-choice player to train, alongside fellow keepers Victor and Jefferson.

Runco said defender David Luiz, who passed a late fitness test on a sore back before the Chile game, had “recovered well” and was practically 100 percent fit again.

The team’s only other injury con-cern is Luiz Gustavo, who Runco said is complaining of a sore knee. However, the midfielder will miss the next game after picking up two yellow cards and so has time to recover.

Government must prepare regulation to secure local entrepreneursBali Post

DENPASAR - The government was expected to make various efforts in facing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015. One of which was preparing the regulations to secure the entrepreneurs of Bali. for help to Mengwi, the Sengawan residents moved northwardly.

Google launched its Google+ social network in 2011 and has been slowly weaving it into other services.

life just got a little easier.

(kmb25)

“Only 9,000 workers have been certified, while the amount of workforce is estimated to reach 300,000 people. They are just the workforce in tourism sector,” said Secretary General of the PHRI Bali, Ferry Markus, in Denpasar.

He said the lack of tourism workers who had owned the certificate of competency was inseparable from the restriction of funds. Meanwhile, the subsidy expected to help the financing from local government, both in

the county and provincial level, had not been disbursed so far.

“The fund required for the certification averagely costs IDR 350,000 to IDR 750,000 for each subject tested. Meanwhile, the subject tested can amount to 25 to 60, depending on their profession. Due to financial obstacle, many tourism human resources have not been certified. All this time, we just got a subsidy from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the

National Board for Professional Certification (BNSP), while local government has not provided yet,” he ex-plained.

He admitted not to doubt the capability of people in the tourism sector. However, the capabilities were not sufficient to deal with competitors in the free market. It was required a written acknowledgment that could be accounted for. “Just as if we are driving a vehicle, even though we can but without a driving license we’re still considered incapable of doing it. To that end, we hope the government could subsidize so that all the workers in Bali can compete,” he concluded.

It was mentioned the AEC competition would not only be faced by tourism in Bali, but also by the entire line, goods, services and people.
