    highlights...

So many good things coming up overthe next three months not least somebreathtaking musicians, two heart-warming documentaries, and thewonderful assortment of locally-basedwalks, talks, performances and visualarts that make up this years CreativePeebles Festival.

And then theres our summerdrama collection a set of excitingproductions that explore some of thethings that matter most including loveand loss, families and friendships, andjourneys through space and time.

Two of the plays go back throughhistory to consider the extraordinarycourage of men from the Borders whochose to venture much further afield:Mungo Park, from the Yarrow Valley, famously explored central Africa inthe nineteenth century; while JamesLaidlaws brave voyage from theEttrick Valley to the New World wentunrecorded until his descendantAlice Munro wrote The Viewfrom Castle Rock.

Meanwhile the hopes and fears ofcontemporary travellers are vividlyexplored in two other new theatrepieces. In Last Dream (On Earth)director Kai Fischer creates anextraordinary soundscape withinwhich present-day refugees andthe first man in space reflect ontheir imagined futures. And thereal experiences of recent Scottishimmigrants are voiced in AsylumMonologues.

On a lighter note, do treat yourselfto The Course of True Love another witty, wilful and wonderfulproduction by David Leddy featuringchampagne and Cleo Laine!
