    Dear _________________________________ MP

I am concerned about recent outbreaks of violence in East Timor a countryoccupied brutally for 25 years by Indonesia with whom the UK profited from alucrative arms trade.

I believe the UK must do more to support justice, truth and reconciliationinitiatives in East Timor. Otherwise, East Timor risks being trapped in a cycleof violence and poverty. I ask you to write on my behalf to the UK governmentexpressing my concerns.

The UK government should pressure the Timorese government to take actionon past crimes. Please also urge the UK government to provide technical andfinancial support for a proposed justice centre in East Timor that will providesupport to victims of violence seeking justice. As one of the supporters of thetruth and reconciliation process, the UK government should also discuss andrespond to recommendations relating to the UK in the two major truth andreconciliation reports from East Timor (the CTF and CAVR).

Please write on my behalf to the Secretaries of State for Foreign andCommonwealth Affairs and for International Development.

    Yours sincerely,________________________________________________(signature)
