A short guide of my favourite food finds
in East London.
Mes endroits prfrspour trouver du bon pain
Albion2-4 Boundary Street, ShoreditchMy favourite place in Shoreditch to grab a delicious pie for lunch also happens to be a good spot to buy your crunchy, healthy multi-cereal bread. Albion also sells all types of good products, coming with the trendy packaging I cant help falling for everytime I go there.
E5Arch 395, Mentmore Terrace, near London FieldsE5 is the kind of bakehouse everyone wishes they had at their doorstep. They have all kind of super yummy breads, and all those really tantalising pastries and cakes. It is of course way more expensive than in France, but I cant resist.
The Grocery54-56 Kingsland Road, ShoreditchIf you want to get loads of organic and amazing groceries, this is the place you should go to. It might be a bit expensive around the edge, but you will find everything youre looking for, from cheese and courgette to small pastries and pizza dough, and of course, organic, multi-grain, sometimes weird looking, really good bread.
Get fresh and yummy fruits and vegetables.
O manger des tartines dlicieuses
Maison Trois Garons45 Redchurch street, ShoreditchAs you would have guessed, this cute cafe channels a mix of french atmosphere with the best of british pastries and toasts. The avocado toast is really affordable and youll certainly ask for another once youve finished the first one. The place is filled with an electic selection of gift items, design, fashion accessorizes and furniture. If you fancy eating and shopping, this place will be heaven for you.
The Laundry2-18 Warburton Road, near London FieldsWell concealed behind London Fields, The Laundry certainly is an hidden treasure. They do the best full english breakfast around here (veggie too of course) and the yummiest avocado toast, all that in the most beautiful space. Think big loft, wood, a bit of steal and a really nice atmosphere.
O boire un bon chocolat chaud
Kahaila Cafe135 Brick Lane, ShoreditchKahaila is located right on the very busy Bricklane and yet it is a very peaceful place to have some hot drinks with friends. You may want to rest or work on one of their big wooden tables (under those big windows releasing natural light) and enjoy an awesome pastry with a delicate and tasty hot chocolate.
Leau la Bouche35-37, Broadway Market, near London FieldsMi-french, mi-italian, LEau la Bouche is one of the busiest cafe on Broadway Market, especially on Saturdays. But it should not keep you from grabbing a hot chocolate and a delicious, terrible, evil brownie on your way to the canal, just nearby. You might also grab some yummy italian groceries while youre there, their packaging will make you melt anyway.
LEau la Bouche terrace on Broadway Market.
Hot chocolate, brownie and carrot cake at LEau la Bouche.
Tiosk, an other good cafe to visit if youre going to Broadway Market.
Dishoom cool interior.
O trouver les falafels les plus miam-miam
Yalla Yalla186 Shoreditch High StreetAh, Yalla Yalla, where Ive been a thousand times already. Right on Shoreditch High Street, although a bit hidden, this (unremovable) truck sells the falafels and the mezze youve been dreaming of. And its quite cheap for the location. So you might as well relax, buy a falafel and a pimms and enjoy the journey to Beirut with your happy tastebuds.
FalafeliciousBox Park, 2-4 Bethnal Green Road, ShoreditchI think the name gives it all away right from the beginning. Those falafels are simply delicious. Although way too small for my taste. Can I order two, por favor?
Dishoom54-56 Kingsland Road, ShoreditchWell, Dishoom isnt from Lebanon, Dishoom is indian, from Bombay to be accurate, and it is fabulous (and affordable). They may not do falafels, but they do the most amazing (veggie) wraps and rolls. Try the Bhel too while youre there, and dont forget the legendary cheese nan. And if you wish to avoid the one hour or more wait during the evenings, just go there on a saturday or a week day at lunch. Yummy!
