Win East Bay Innovation Awards
Oakland, CAFebruary 1, 2013Two winners announced at last nights
first annual East
Bay Innovation Awards were from Oaklands Downtown and Lake
Merritt/Uptownbusiness communities.
Ecologic Brandswon top honors for the Clean Tech award
andPandoraradio won the
Engineering and Design award at the event, which is hosted by
the East Bay Economic
Development Alliance (East Bay EDA).
Ecologic Brands, located in Downtown Oakland, is making a bold
statement about
better options for sustainable packaging by developing the first
molded paper bottle
made from 100% recycled materials and containing 70% less
plastic. The East Bays
culture, what Ecologic Brands CEO Julie Corbett dubs encouraging
paradigm-
changing innovation, was credited for providing the right
environment for hercompany to call home.
Pandora has been headquartered in the Lake Merritt/Uptown
Oakland business district
since day one. From its soon to be expanded Uptown digs, Pandora
has established
itself as the worlds fastest growing and the largest internet
radio service company with
more than 60 million listeners. CEO Joe Kennedy believes the
East Bay is becoming the
preferred home for more leading edge companies because it is
finding the heart of
successful entrepreneurs. What many Uptowners call the Pandora
Effect has
attracted other innovative tech hub firms to Oakland, including
Skytide, Sungevity and
Livescribe, another winner at the East Bay EDA event.
