EA Wins $200 in Lambda Chi “Dancing with the Greeks

EA had a great two months in January and February. Our members really participated in events in campus and worked hard for some great PR and some great wins for EA and St. Jude. On January 26th, Freshmen Lauren Raleigh (PC ’11) participated in Lambda Chi Alpha’s “Dancing with the Greeks”. Lauren, along with Lambda Chi Alum Elliot Michtell (both pictured on right with Sarah Tierney) competed a dance number which wowed the crowed. Lauren has been dancing for many years and was happy that her talents could help Tri Delta. Lauren and Elliot placed first and won $200 which will be donated to St. Jude Children’s research hospital.

First time participants in FGCU Reverse Career Fair win grand prize

FGCU hosted its 2nd annual “Reverse Career Fair” on February 7th. Tri Delta composed a team of seniors, Maria DiBagno, Jennifer Joyce, Liz Pessin and Rosa Mendoza to participate in the reverse career fair along with help from Shauna Holdridge on design of our set up. The program is designed for student organizations to showcase their organization and the value the members receive by being involved in it to employers and community partners. Student organizations are judged on their professional presentation to the employers and community partners who rate them on a set of criteria. Last years winners were the Rotaract for the grand prize, Sigma Phi Epsilon as first runner up and Anthropology as second runner up.  Tri Delta met with various companies in the community and FGCU staff members. Tri Delta

was judged on things such as how the mission and functions of the organizations were clearly stated, contributing to FGCU and the community at large, how organization helps members gains transferable work and life skills, intentional connection of club events and projects to state mission, proper etiquette and appropriate attire, and actively engaged in communication with employers, community agencies and fellow students.  The team highlighted the fact that Tri Delta develops and grows a more womanly character throughout her college years. They focused on the education aspect of Tri Delta and highlighted Reflections, our partnership with Job Bound, the Trident and its focus on issues facing women, our high academic requirements and the Center for Living, Learning and Leading . On the leadership side, we spoke about all the different officers positions we have in the chapter and how it could cater to an individuals interests or majors such as PR, fashion (licensing chair), event planning (recruitment), and philanthropy. We also spoke a great deal about convention, regional leadership conference, Undergraduate inter-fraternity institute, chapter retreats and Evergreen. On the giving back section, we spoke about our fundraising efforts for St Jude, our yearly participating in Relay for Life and our volunteering for the Southwest Florida Children's Hospital at their annual Diamond Dinner. Even before they found out that they won they were very happy overall with the event. They met many local businesses that were interested in meeting with our seniors to help them with internships, resumes and one business who was very interested in helping us with our conversation skills for recruitment in the Fall. All four of the presenters were seniors, and they found this very beneficial as they are entering the 'real world' during the upcoming years.  Liz Loredo from Career Services said “I am very impressed that Tri Delta choose to donate their winnings to St. Jude instead of using the money for a party or other event. That speaks volumes about what Tri Delta is really about”.
