Most businesses could use a little
financial assistance on occasions
to help them grow and reach
their potential – and there is grant
aid for business relocation in
Scotland.
The Regional Selective
Assistance (RSA) is the main
investment grant aid for
businesses. Any business located
within a Tier One, Tier Two or
Tier Three area could earn funding
towards an investment project
that could ultimately help to
create or safeguard jobs and any
business can apply regardless of
whether it is Scottish-owned or
owned or headquartered outside
the country. To achieve grant
funding however, your business
must involve an element of capital
investment; be financially viable;
be mainly funded by the private
sector but need the RSA to
proceed; and must not simply
be offset by job losses elsewhere
in the assisted areas.
For grant aid for business
relocation to Dundee your
company can apply for tier two
funding. Though maximum aid
limits are dependent on both
location and the size of the
business, grant aid is available
for up to 35 per cent for small
businesses; 25 per cent for
medium-sized businesses;
and 10 per cent for large
businesses.
Eligible project costs, which
must be capitalised, include
plant and machinery, software
and expenditure on land and
buildings. The project must
make commercial sense and
must contribute towards national
economic performance.
Bear in mind that the level of
grant funding your business
can receive will be determined
by the RSA’s assessment of your
need for assistance and the size
of the project.

Dundee
Dundee is one of Scotland’s major cities. With a proud
industrial and maritime heritage, it has a new buzz, a new energy.
The catalyst for this change can be found here on the waterfront,
with new homes, new offices and new lifestyle opportunities.
The city has two universities and a burgeoning reputation in dynamic
industries such as biosciences, digital arts and clinical research. Major
UK companies such as Alliance Trust and DC Thompson are based
here and the arts flourish in the city’s cultural quarter. Indeed, the world
famous Victoria and Albert Museum has recently announced that City
Quay will be home to its first Scottish museum.
Retail opportunities abound in the city, with modern shopping centres
and historic streets home to major chain stores and independent
shops alike. Bars and restaurants make eating and drinking in the city
a real pleasure.

Beyond the city boundaries lies some of the most beautiful countryside
in Scotland. From the banks of the Tay, along to the ancient university town of
St Andrews and the East Neuk, the Fife coastline is home to glorious beaches,
world famous golf courses and picturesque villages.
Head north and the coast takes in the golfing resort of Carnoustie while inland
the River Tay meanders through beautiful open scenery to the Fair City of
Perth. Dundee may be a city of business, but it is also a city that people are
proud to call home.
Living

DemographicsDundee’s location puts it within easy reach of Scotland’s major towns and cities. Indeed, almost half of Scotland’s population lives within a 60 mile radius of the city.
As the region’s major employment centre, Dundee draws employees from a wide catchment area. Its population of 142,170 is boosted by more than 300,000 economically active, highly skilled people within a 30 minute drive time. Expand that radius out to an hour and almost 630,000 people are within catchment. That’s a huge reservoir of employment talent to draw on.
In recent years, Dundee has helped to spearhead the knowledge-driven economy in Scotland. The city’s key strengths lie in creative industries, life sciences and education, with Dundee’s higher education establishments the catalyst. The University of Dundee, University of Abertay and Dundee College have a combined roster of more than 40,000 students; the University of St Andrews adds another 7,000 within a 20 minute drive.
More importantly, these establishments have a reputation for excellence. Dundee University is one of the UK’s great academic, research and economic success stories and was recently named both Scottish University of the Year and number one for teaching excellence.* The University of Abertay offers world-leading courses in computer arts and computer games technology and is ranked as the best university in Scotland for its environmental research.
