College Ready levels are: Reading (5), Writing (6), and Math (5)If your reading/writing/math scores are not high enough for you to take college level courses, that means you should focus on building those skills at DHS before taking college courses.If you choose to take Development classes at LCC (below college ready scores), it is at the familys expenseStep 2:Apply to LCCApplication StepsApply to LCC at anytime by going to www.lcc.edu and clicking on Apply NowStudents will identify that they are current high school students on their applicationInformation needed to apply: Basic demographics (name, address, phone number)Takes about 5 minutesThere will be a field trip to LCC on March 21 from 8:45-1:15. Interested students should notify Mrs. Akers & turn in a permission slip.

Step 3:Preparing to Register for classesACCUPLACERAfter applying to LCC, students will need to take Reading, Writing, and Math placement testsStudents need to receive College Ready scores on their ACCUPLACER assessment in order to take courses. You will get these results at the Testing Center when you complete testing.Students can only take the ACCUPLACER two times in a 365 day period.Students with an IEP can set up accommodated testing through Student Disability Services

ACCUPLACER WaiverStudents can submit a waiver for each of the subject test if they have minimum ACT sub-scores.Math assessment waived with ACT score of 22Reading assessment waived with ACT score of 20 Writing assessment waived with ACT score of 20

Waiver cannot be used with ACT Explore or ACT Plan scoresStudents will need a copy of their ACT scores to be submitted with the waiver. See Mrs. Akers if you need a copy of your scores or to have your waiver faxed to LCC.Choosing your LCC CourseState Law mandates which types of courses a student may take-they need to be courses that will lead to a degree or certificateStudents must take courses that are at least 3.0 LCC credits during a Block Hour & 1.0 credit during a Skinny HourStudents may not take courses that are offered at DHS:MATH 151 AP Calculus ABWRIT 121/122 AP English LanguageGEOG 200 AP Human GeographyChoosing your LCC CourseIt is recommended that students choose courses that are part of the MACRAO agreement (core courses that transfer to other Michigan colleges/universities)The college or university that you graduate from will be the one that determines if it will accept your dual enrolled course towards graduationIf students know which college or university they plan to attend, they should consult www.michigantransfernetwork.org to determine which courses will transferChoosing an LCC courseIf you are unsure of what course to take, set up an appointment with Mrs. Akers this spring to discuss course options.If you are unable to register for a course, the two biggest problems are:There is a hold on your account because your Dual Enrollment Approval Form hasnt been processed, orIt is not the correct time for you to register.

Step 4:Registering for ClassesRegistering for LCC CoursesStudents are required to register for their own coursesThe LCC registration process can be a bit confusing. There is a step-by-step process form available in the Counseling Office to help you navigate the system.Mrs. Akers will be at DHS on the first Friday of scheduling in June, at the beginning of registration, if any students would like help registering. You can also have friends, siblings, and family members who have taken LCC courses help. Registration Process1. Get a High School Approval Form from Mrs. Akers, fill it out, have it signed by a parent, and return it to the high school office2. Mrs. Akers will fax in your Approval Form. It will take 1-3 days for LCC to process your form. A hold will be placed on your account until the form has been processed.3. Go online to www.lcc.edu to register through StarPort.

Registering for LCC CoursesSummer Semester 2014Admission Deadline: May 2014Registration Deadline: June 2014Fall Semester 2014Begins August 2014Admission & Registration dates: June 2014Once students have successfully registered for their course(s), they will complete a Billing Authorization Form and a DHS Dual Enrollment Registration Form and submit it to the high school officeChanges in original courses must be approved through the high school officeRegistration TipsRegister early courses fill up quickly!Talk to Mrs. Akers before the end of the school yearHave backup plans in case your first choice is unavailablePay attention to your ACCUPLACER scores and course prerequisitesMake wise choices when registering; students who withdraw from courses once the semester begins are responsible for repaying the district the cost of the course(s).

Step 5:What to do once youve registeredPost-Registration StepsFill out a Billing Authorization form and submit it to Mrs. Akers within 5 days of registering for a course. Over summer vacation, you will need to turn it in to the Superintendents Office.Clear any non-MACRAO courses through Mrs. Akers to make sure that you have registered for appropriate courses.Decide if you want to take the course for high school credit or just college credit.LCC will send you a bill. This is okay. Their system does not differentiate Dual Enrolled from Regular students, they just bill everyone. Check to see if you need to purchase any books at Gibsons Bookstore.Costs of Dual EnrollmentDansville Schools will pay the cost of tuition and course fees for students to Dual Enroll in approved coursesFamilies are responsible for the cost of all books and class equipment neededFamilies are responsible for transportation and transportation costs DHS Scheduling & Dual EnrollmentIt is recommended that students only dual enroll for one course the first time that they dual enroll. School approval is needed for students requesting to dual enroll in more than one course.Students must be enrolled in 4 DHS credits each semester. This can be a combination of DHS and LCC courses.LCC Fall Semester runs August DecemberLCC Spring Semester run January May Dual enrolled students are expected to leave the building during their Dual Enrolled hour. The costs of your tuition replace money that would be used to supervise you while at DHS. Students may request a waiver to this rule from the HS office, waivers will be granted as space allows.Changes to Dual Enrollment LawStudents who are eligible to dual enroll may do so in grades 9 -12.Students are eligible for a maximum of ten (10) courses overall to be paid for by the school district.Students who dual enroll in their first course in 9th grade are eligible to take no more than two classes per year in their first, second, and third academic years of dual enrollment, and no more than four classes during their fourth academic year.Students who dual enroll in their first course in 10th grade are eligible to take no more than two classes during their first academic year of dual enrollment, and no more than four classes per year during their second and third academic years.Students who dual enroll in their first course in 11th grade are eligible for not more than six courses during grades 11 and 12.Any additional courses may be taken at the familys expense.If a student does not earn credit in any course paid for by the school district (either through withdrawing from the course or not earning a passing grade), the family is responsible for any charges not returned to the school district by the post-secondary institution.
