3Customization and Set-Up

● Set up a typical AutoCAD workspace● Customize a B-Size Portfolio Layout based ● Protect your proto-type file by saving it as a read only file and as a template file.

AutoCad, Google Docs

5Orthographics & Isometrics

● Create mechanical technical documents … recreate existing 2-D views ● Create mechanical technical documents using 3-D models to create 2-D orthographic projections● Document a typical set of revisions on a mechanical technical document.● Export the layout for each revision file so that you can combine them into one file for historical

viewing.

AutoCAD, D2L, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet

7 Perspectives● Insert, scale, and align an image into an AutoCAD file.● Create a professional perspective view drawing suitable for a visual presentation to a client

AutoCAD, Revit, Google Docs.

8Mechanical Sections

● Create cutting planes in order to visualize the interior of a 3-D model ● Create 2-D sections which meet mechanical technical documentation practices ● Create a mechanical technical drawing utilizing section views● Create a mechanical assembly section with a bill of materials with data which can be extracted

AutoCAD, D2L, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet

10Architectural Sections

● Use common architectural terminology on various detail views● Create typical full scale, annotated and dimensioned, 2D details for use in an architectural

technical document.● Create an architectural technical drawing combining various details and section views using

multiple scale factors. Combine separate full scale files using the external reference method to allow detail level revisions to migrate to combined documents.

AutoCAD, D2L, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet

11 Civil Plot Plans

● Create a full scale plan view of a typical civil plot plan referenced to a surveying base-point and using typical civil engineering units.

● Create a set of attributes to define each lot as specified by the instructor and export the data to an excel file.

● Create a civil technical document package combining a 2-D plan view, a plan view over-lay onto an image of the property, and selected data as specified by the instructor.

Revit, AutoCAD, D2L, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet

12Mechanical GDT

● Create mechanical drawings in various formats that correspond to specific steps of the design process and which meet various needs of the manufacturing industry.

AutoCAD, D2L, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet

15Mechanical Project

● Create mechanical drawings that meets industry standards based on a model and technical documents provided.

Course Description

Student Learning Outcomes

This course emphasizes using various electronic graphical media software to create standardized technical documentation for architectural, civil, and mechanical applications. A wide range of methods are used to create, print and save 2D, 3D, orthographic, and isometric presentations in a wide variety of output formats using AutoCAD as the primary tool. Section views for mechanical and architectural applications are covered, as well as a variety of drawing and file management topics.

• set up a wide variety of file management and software customization tools to prepare, develop, coordinate, and output drawings in accord with best practices for architectural, civil, and mechanical applications • apply orthographic and isometric projection and sectioning principles to architectural, civil, and mechanical engineering drawings • produce industry standard technical documentation • choose and use industry appropriate design graphic techniques to develop technical design documents from a conceptual design
