The character of Dr. Jekyll, both physically and emotionally, deteriorates as the novel progresses.

It is important to chart this deterioration and understand the reasons behind it.

1. Find the quotation which describes Jekyll (physically ) for the first time in the novel. (Dr Jekyll Was Quite at Ease)

2. How would you describe his mental/emotional state during this conversation with Utterson?
