A STORYOF ENCOUNTERSAlexandre de Metz is a photography and music enthusiast. Parallel to studying law he shadowed René Martin,

a great organiser of classical music concerts and creator and organiser of the ‘La Folle Journée’. He thus

accompanied him all around the world, an experience which led him to consider the affordability of art in

general : ‘How can art be made more democratic...?’ He then decided to change his professional vocation to

learn about entrepreneurship in a business school, in order to bring his own project to fruition.

Alexandre de Metz and Paul-Antoine Briat met at HEC business school. The latter has a firm foothold in

the world of finance (including working with Jean-Marie Messier in an investment bank). Born into a family

entrepreneurs, and with experience in the professional world in London and New York under his belt,

Paul-Antoine Briat always intended to develop his own concept and expand worldwide.

Meeting Alexandre de Metz and discovering their shared passion for photography led to a project which turned

into an adventure : the creation of YellowKorner in 2006.

CONCEPTYellowKorner’s ambition is to democratise art photography and make it accessible to all. YellowKorner galleries

are sites of exchange between the public and the artists, exhibiting and commercialising the art photographs of

more than 200 artists, provided in limited editions and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. YellowKorner

promotes the talents of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, through our network of nearly 80 galleries worldwide.

The concept is based on a very simple equation: increasing the number of copies of art photographs in order

to make them accessible to as many art lovers and collectors as possible. Therefore, instead of offering

10 prints at 5 000 euros each, YellowKorner chooses to publish 1 000 at 50 euros each.

YellowKorner is now the leading publisher of accessible art photography.

ARTiSTSYellowKorner wants to provide a place for talent from different photography trends to be expressed.

The only constant is the artistic excellence required to feature in the YellowKorner collections. Thus

contemporary artists are found alongside the greatest names in photography (Gustave le Gray, Eugène Atget,

Man Ray, Dorothea Lange, Jean Dieuzaide, Bert Stern, Matthieu Ricard, Yann Arthus-Bertrand…), as well

as period photographers (the primitive Japanese Kimbei, Nadar, Léon Gimpel…). For YellowKorner, these

esteemed photographers have accepted to exceptionally increase the print volume for some of their works to

make the prices affordable.

Yel lowKorner photographs are se lected by a commit tee composed of a dozen exper ts

under the authority of the founders. Each member of this committee is a specialist of a particular

photographic trend from 1880 to today. As talent spotters, they are also responsible for selecting

international young hopefuls in the world of art photography, from amongst the most talented of their

generation. Several of these artists, who were yesterday’s hopefuls, are included amongst today’s

most renowned photographers. YellowKorner therefore shone a light upon Léo Caillard, Laurent

Baheux, Kourtney Roy and Lee Jeffries right from the start of their career.

YellowKorner thus intends to be a springboard for young photographers as well as promoting internationally

renowned photographers.

GAllERiESWith this persistent will to close the gap between the public and artists, YellowKorner has created unique areas

for display. Under the supervision of the famous architect and designer Gérard Barrau, Alexandre de Metz and

Paul-Antoine Briat conceive and design their exhibition venues. So, the concept of entirely black and white

galleries emerged. Like a showcase, these spaces magnify the works presented and invite all art lovers to a

luxurious, yet moderate venue.

YellowKorner owns 50 galleries worldwide. In France and in Europe, but also in the United States, Canada,

Mexico and Morocco, YellowKorner galleries offer a wide panorama of traditional and contemporary

photography. Each gallery fulfils the first requirement of the founders of YellowKorner: to makes these exhibition

sites a venue for culture and encounters between the public and chosen artists. In this vein, the galleries

organise events and previews which photographers and celebrities attend in a common spirit of sharing.

This spirit of sharing is also in evidence through the history of photography lessons offered to the public. Led

by esteemed specialists and Sorbonne professors, each conference aims to refine and develop the curiosity of

enthusiasts and collectors. This same pleasure for sharing inspires the YellowKorner teams. The impassioned

and experienced gallerists are totally at your disposition to assist and guide you with your findings.

Founded in 1949 in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the bookshop-gallery La Hune is a symbol

of the cultural life of the neighbourhood. In October 2015 La Hune reinvented itself with contemporary

renovations, becoming a site entirely dedicated to photography and a unique place for encounters

between the public and artists, with a dynamic events programme.

Arranged in three complementary spaces, on the ground floor it accommodates a revisited

YellowKorner gallery containing a large selection of numbered prints available in various formats,

and a teNeues bookshop presenting an exclusive selection of photography books, including some

very beautiful limited-edition art books. The gallery on the first floor unveils monographic exhibitions

of rare prints, dedicated to internationally renowned photographers.
