the Golf CoursesAre you up to the challenge of playing a round of golf on our championship courses?

The Dorset Golf & Country Club offers 27 of the most challenging holes in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England.

The Martin Hawtree-designed Lakeland/Parkland and Woodland Courses are built to full USGA specification and are extremely well maintained, presenting excellent playing conditions for all levels of golfers.

We have three Championship loops of 9 holes that provide a great golfing experience with beautifully large sculpted greens, surrounded by cleverly placed bunkers. The Course also boasts some of the most picturesque lakes and waterways you will find on any course.

When playing the Lakeland and Parkland Course combination, it will give you a par of 72. Mix either of these with the Woodland Course and you will have a par of 69, offering contrasting challenges to the other courses with tight tree-lined fairways, which have been carved through a forest of rhododendrons. Whichever course combination you play, you will come off inspired and wanting to play again.

We have a floodlit Driving Range consisting of 16 bays, all under cover, with the best quality range mats and possibly the most unique targeting area to aim at, enabling all-year-round practice. There is also a large putting green, practice bunker, short game area and chipping area.

The Dorset Golf & Country Club is a fantastic place to play golf. Have a great round.

Custom fittinGHere at The Dorset Golf & Country Club we offer a custom fitting service that allows all golfers to enjoy golf equipment which has been specifically adapted to their individual needs.

CUstoM fitting Can be UseD to aChieve ManY Different aiMs, sUCh as:

• Adapting the club/s to allow for a player’s physical dimensions (taller/shorter/large hands etc)

• Reducing the destructiveness of a consistent swing fault, without physically altering the golfer’s technique

• To encourage the correct technique i.e. the player would no longer have to compensate for a component of the club/s that does not fit them correctly

• To eliminate a specific shot e.g. hook, slice etc

By making simple adjustments to the specifications of a ‘standard’ set of clubs, the golfer who has been custom fitted would find it far easier to return the club to the ball in a square position at impact.

Custom fitting will also benefit every golfer, at all levels. At its more technical level, custom fitting can build low handicap golfers and professionals a more efficient swing by refining ball spin and trajectory, to complement their already-proficient technique. Higher handicap players can use adjustments in lie angles and shafts to overcome repetitive swing faults. Improvers and beginners need well-fitted equipment to encourage the correct address position, which will allow them to develop a consistent and reliable technique.

Page 21: Dorset Golf and Country Club Official Brochure 2013/2014

www.dorsetgolfresort.com 21

Our experienced and well-trained team of PGA Professionals are able to make exacting assessments of your needs. They will consider your physical dimensions during the ‘static fit’ as well as your technique, the ‘dynamic fit’. A hitting session is the only reliable way to produce accurate and correct results. We also have some of the latest computer software and laser equipment available to analyse your ball strike.

A custom fitting session here at The Dorset Golf & Country Club will last between 30 minutes and one hour, depending on the nature of the fitting session.

One of the best things about the custom fitting service we offer is it’s free! Whenever you purchase a driver, a set of irons, a wedge or putter from us, your custom fit will not cost you a penny. Whether you are looking to buy a brand new set or simply looking to see if you could tweak any of your existing clubs, please feel free to make any enquiries with the Golf Shop, who will be more than happy to offer any advice they can.

So unless your clubs have been professionally fitted, they could be responsible for the less than desirable parts of your game.

the 5* dorset resort villaGe - Gold aWardWould you like to rent a luxury holiday home in Dorset?

Enjoy a holiday of a lifetime?

Stay near stunning coastline, on a Championship Golf Course?

The Dorset Resort Village was created for those who will appreciate the outstanding natural beauty of rolling heathlands and the majesty afforded by 90 acres of unspoilt woodland that The Resort Village is set amongst.

The stunning detached log homes stand naturally within the woodland setting, offering accommodation of complete quality for you and your family.

The fairy-tale Scandinavian-style houses at The Dorset Resort are very different types of buildings not often seen in the English countryside. Made

entirely from trees grown in the Nordic forests of Finland, these homes create a unique healthy living environment because the wood “breathes” whilst at the same time being a better insulator than brick.

The homes combine simplicity with luxury, the natural oiled pine floors, walls and ceilings create a remarkably relaxed living space and all the furniture and fittings are of very high quality. People are able to stay at The Resort for periods of two days to four weeks in these wonderful homes, enabling them to spend quality time in this picturesque area of Dorset.

All the homes are set in a quiet woodland glade surrounded by stunning fir trees and wonderful wildlife, birds, butterflies and animals abound in this woodland setting. Book one and see for yourself just how fantastic they really are.

wilDlife / walks

The Dorset Golf and Country Club is situated in over three hundred acres of forest and heathland. The adjacent heathland is classified as SSSI land and is owned by the Dorset Wildlife Trust.

Walk through this amazing woodland and enjoy the peace. This woodland has been described by the Forestry Commission as “a living museum.”

This ancient forest contains rare species of trees and, most interestingly, 600-year-old coppiced oaks following the old road from Bere Regis to Wareham.

We are fortunate to be close to the very centre of the now-famous World Heritage Jurassic Coastline and for those wishing to visit this stunning area of the country, views of breathtaking proportion are a few short miles away.

Weymouth, Swanage, Bournemouth, Poole, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are all only 20-30 minutes away, making it a perfect base to explore from.

The Dorset Resort is home to an abundance of wildlife including Sika, Muntjac and Roe Deer, badgers, foxes, rabbits and hares.

Woodpeckers, Dartford Warblers, Herons, Kingfishers and Bitterns are among our multitude of bird habitants. Look out also for a varied collection of butterfly species indigenous to the Dorset countryside.

Step outside your front door and enjoy this truly wonderful place.

Sturdy footwear is recommended at all times as this area is natural pathways and not man-made tracks.

Enjoy an early morning walk or cycle along our beautiful woodland tracks and bridle paths from half a mile to five miles with nothing to disturb the tranquillity but stunning scenery, and an abundance of native wildlife, birds and butterflies.

Lots of places are within in reach with a bike so we strongly recommend hiring a bike when you’re here with us. We’ve done all the hard work and found the best company in the area. Enquire in the general office to organise your bike hire.

the dorset boWls resortThe Dorset Golf & Country Club has recently invested one million pounds in opening a new Bowling Rink and Fitness Centre. The new championship-standard three-rink bowling arena is ideal for full length or short mat bowling holidays.

The arena incorporates a large viewing gallery for spectators, changing rooms, showers, a gymnasium, sauna and tropical shower. All these facilities can be used by Members and Guests.

Two of the world’s greatest ever bowlers, David Bryant CBE and Tony Allcock MBE, performed the opening ceremony. It was the first time that the two stars, who have won 29 world bowls titles between them, had together opened a new bowling facility. We were both proud and privileged to have the Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer of the bowls world pay us a visit.

More than 200 people attended the opening and the guest list represented a real “Who’s Who” of the bowls world with the Chief Executives of Bowls England and The English Indoor Bowling Association, the EIBA Men’s and Ladies Presidents, and the Dorset Indoor and Outdoor Presidents among those who came to view this superb new arena. Andy Thomson, England Captain and Graham Shadwell, England Skip and Commonwealth team member, then played a very high quality exhibition match to crown a memorable opening.

David Bryant said in his speech that if he was going to join a bowls club he would join The Dorset, adding that the location and facilities were second to none! Praise indeed from “The Great Man” himself!

The Dorset SMBA (Short Mat Bowls Association) have made the Dorset Bowls Resort their home venue for all inter-county games. We are very proud to host the county and have had some wonderful players gracing the arena playing out some thrilling matches this season. We also play host to open short mat and full length bowling tournaments as well as running open bowling breaks.

Individuals, as well as large and small groups of bowlers, can enjoy all the benefits The Dorset Resort has to offer, including round robin bowling competitions and excellent prizes. The winners of each three or four-day breaks are invited back to compete in The Dorset Champion of Champions Tournament.

If you love playing bowls, you will love the bowling holidays at The Dorset Bowls Resort.
