For me it is simple: there could be nothing more paradisiacal than a room you can eat.

RECALLING the imagery of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, the paintings of Will Cotton, and Hansel and Gretel – works which celebrate the notion of an environment experienced through taste - I approached this project eager to explore an indulgent, saccharine side of paradise. A place where occupants could smell, lick and be enveloped by an edible fabric. However the worlds of food and architecture are rarely seen to be compatible, and so very quickly this project became an investigation into the most suitable and successful way to incorporate the essence of confectionary into a built paradise (without being too literal). Form, unadulterated by the pastels of a generic candyland, created the best means of showcasing this essence. Throughout the models static materials perform an illusion of high viscousity. Ravines of what could be cream or chocolate populate the structures, swirling and dripping inside and out. Fluidity of form was a key aim as the structures needed to appear self-generated according to the patterns of an oozing syrup. After all, the construction of a true paradise is beyond the capabilities of man.
