This bibliography represents a preliminary stepin the collection and synthesis of research in com-munication apprehension. RoAlualitative criteria wereused in the selection of items for this bibliography,except that the item had to deal with apprehensionas a major pert of the report. Basic texts that men-tion apprehension, but do not extend either the theor-etic or empirical knowledge of the area were excluded.

Communication apprehension in this bibliography isconsidered to be a broad based anxiety about communicationwith other people. Thus, works concerning reticence, stagefright, speech anxiety, and similar constructs, whetherdirected towards public speaking or the interpersonal con-text were included. Also included are listings of materi-als relevant to apprehension of writing.Acknowledgement is made to Dr. tames McCrosksy, West
