Dmitry Sergeevich Likhachev was an outstanding Russian scholar, because his works are known all over the world and the world’s famous expert in old Russian language and literature.Likhachev was born in 1906 in St. Petersburg. In 1928 he graduated from the Leningrad University and was arrested because he was brave and criticized in the Bolshevik reform of Russian orthography. He spent five long years in the Solovki in Special Camp and returned to Leningrad unbroken as he was sure he was right. His scholarly career in the Russian Literature Institute was successful: he worked there more than 60 years and published more than 500 important works as he was intelligent and professional. In 1953 Likhachev was admitted into the Soviet Academy of Sciences. He was honest that’s why he defended Sakharov and Solzhenitsyn during their hard years. He was the first President of the Russian Cultural Fund. Likhachev became the first Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg and the first recipient of the Order of St. Andrew. Likhachev died in 1999.I admire Dmitry Sergeevich Likhachev because he was a real citizen of Russia. I am proud of him - he loved and never betrayed Russian culture.
