INTRODUCTION

Name: Mr. Dilip Chhabria.

Company’s name: DC Design.

Established in: 1993

Vision : “I want to pander to the human psyche to deliver change. Whatever we do, it should be from a global point of view at Indian costs.

Profile of Mr. Chhabria Mr. Dilip Chhabria fascination from the childhood is designing the cars.

He went to Automotive Art School at Pasadena in the USA.

After the education he worked with General Motors for short time.

He started auto parts designing and continue with it almost for 10 years.

In India, Mahindra & Mahindra wanted to upgrade the design of its SUV called Armada.

The company helped him to start his own design consultancy and thus born of DC Design in 1993.

Profile of DC Design In 1993 – Number of employees was 8 & Number of cars 2/year

In 2010 – Number of employees is 450 & Number of cars 250/year

Next year the number cars expected by him is 600.

Mr. Chhabria has two streams of revenue: 1) Business-to-Business, 2) Business-to-Consumer

The company’s 450 employees work on 40 projects and all projects got to finish in about 4 months. Because he feels anything more than that and people lose interest.

He made partnership with former Maruti Suzuki CEO & MD Jagdish Khattar’s Carnation Auto that deals with automobile service, spares, accessories and pre-owned cars.

SKILLS & SCALE: The company provide first-world attributes at third-world costs.

The company’s employees works 70 hours a week, versus the 35 hours people in organizations abroad put in.

As a result, the company 60 percent of time the others take, this makes them the fastest developers in the world.

Because of quality, he received the appreciation letter from Mr. Patrick Lecharpy who is the Renault’s design head.

The phrase ‘Bring me your body and I’ll give you a new soul' once quoted by him truly reflects in his work.

CHALLENGES Design, especially in the world of automobiles, has become a fast-moving commodity. Consumer have begun to tire of design quickly.

He aware of the challenges “ It’s important to levitate ten years ahead. From the time it goes from pen and paper to actual launch, it’s about five years. And after that the car has to be valid for another five years.”

Because of this risk Mr. Chhabria has begun to hedge his risks. He has thus expanded into refrigerators, home and office interiors, bus bodies, motorcycles, helicopter interiors

There are other challenge like other people around the country who simply copy his designs.

He has challenge how to retain 450 people he has trained. To retain this employees he paid West Asian wages to them. (Four to Five time that of India)

ACHIVEMENTS First break with the Maruti Gypsy project.

Zero employee turn over ratio FROM LAST SEVEN YEARS.

Never repeat the design.

Starting designing furniture, helicopters and refrigerators, paintings & sculptures.

The prestigious invitation to design the Aston Martin Vanquish for the James Bond movie 'Die Another Day' depicts his popularity in the international market.

Modernized the Hindustan motors’ AMBASSADOR as AMBIEROD.

Design the India’s BIGGEST BUS coach for SHAHRUKH KHAN.

The new Ambierod is enhanced with an automated instrumental panel, satellite navigation system, rear vision camera, three LCD televisions, internet and video conferencing-enabled flat bed and multi-coloured mood lighting. The car is termed as ‘the retro-futuristic car’. Many of the above features are also first in the world! The ambierod is bluffed to reach upto the whomping speeds of 309kmph!

It has the biggest chassis in bollywood. The vanity van is a Volvo and very spacious with five rooms. King Khan will have the facility of a lounge with bar, a gym with modern equipments, an office, a bedroom and a washroom with a shower. The van has the facility of converting all switches to touch screen to increase the comfort level of the bollywood badshah. The van is fourteen meter long and Dilip Chhabria completed the task in four months.  

Cont……… He has to his acclaim a distinction of designing 600 unique cars in 14 years a world record by any standards.

Chhabria has set up with the DY Patil Group the DYP-DC Centre for Automotive Research and Studies at Pune.

The company has dedicated capacity of over a million man hours for prototyping.
