2018/06 Digitisation Volunteer (philatelic collection) Role description Purpose of the role To assist the philatelic team in creating a public online resource by digitising The Postal Museum’s historic collection of GB stamps and stamp products. Tasks involved Handling the philatelic collection in preparation for scanning Digitising GB stamps and stamp products using a flatbed scanner Data entry and working with databases Writing blogs about the project Skills Through this role volunteers will develop skills and experience in collections management and digitisation. Experience of digitisation projects and handling paper collections is desirable but not essential. We are looking for volunteers who can demonstrate the following: Good level of IT skills Ability to complete tasks independently and in a team Good organisation skills Good attention to detail, especially with repetitive tasks An interest in museum and / or archive work Time Commitment This is a weekday role at The Postal Museum. Ideally you would be able to commit to one day a week for three months initially, although we expect the project to last at least six months. Support and training Full induction and training Ongoing support through volunteer supervisors Travel expenses reimbursed (up to £10 per day) Meal expenses reimbursed (up to £5 per day if volunteering a minimum of 4 hours) How to apply Please email the Training and Development Manager at [email protected] or call 0300 0300 700 (ext. 603) if you are interested. Digitisation Volunteer (philatelic collection) Role description
