Urban transportation makes a city what it is. Its lifeline, its heartbeat. It connects communities and opens up opportunities for growth. With cities evolving at a rapid pace, the functionality of railway stations will have a significant impact on the availability of mobility services, throughput of passengers and journey experience.

Digitalization is having a significant impact on mobility

The influence of digital innovations has brought about vast improvements to existing networks, automating lines to increase network capacity. Even though considerable progress has been made to modernize networks, stations still represent the frontline in journey experience and act as a hub for communities. However, many railway stations use legacy infrastructure that is not designed for the digital world. For this reason, stations are increasingly seen as focal points for the next round of innovations, the goal

being to further improve customer experience and increase network capacity.

Station infrastructure of tomorrow

By integrating signaling and station management systems, Siemens is able to offer operators a single human inter-face. The Digital Station combines station solutions such as Facility-Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (F-SCADA), Passenger Information Systems/Passenger Announcements and intelligent CCTV functionalities into a single interface system, either locally or cloud-based. The data from various sub-systems can be safely connected and analyzed on Mindsphere, Siemens’ IoT operating system, to enhance operational efficiency. This connectivity enables the system to act as a single management system and helps to digitally enhance the operational efficiency of a station for the benefit of operators, infrastructure owners and, most importantly, passengers.

Siemens Digital Station Solutions

Based on signalling and station management solutions, new products and services can be tailored to optimize operations and improve the passenger experience.

Benefits of the Digital Station

Siemens Digital Station solutions offer multiple benefits for each specific customer group.

Station Operator Option for integration of operation control center for signaling and station management Digital Station Manager (optional cloud-based) as software to integrate legacy and

new station management systems for improved synchronization of station operation Optimized train load and capacity utilization as first step to demand-responsive transport Optimized capacity utilization to increase throughput by 5 % Decrease dwell time and unplanned prolonged stops in stations

Infrastructure Owner Reduced Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) thanks to a modular and flexible design

of the Digital Station Manager Innovative system configuration with option of being offered as a service

in the form of software Up to 20 % Operational Expenditure (OPEX) saving with optimized sub-systems

and reduced energy consumption
