DIGIPACK DECONSTRUCTION

Ramones – Greatest Hits

Page 2: Digipack deconstruction - the ramones

Front Cover

The front cover shows the well known Ramones logo, the eagle in the circle. Surrounding it is the bands name and their most commonly known catch-phrase. This brand has become incredibly famous. It tells the consumer straight away what band it is.

The title of the album is stamped in red on the front, making it stand out from the rest of the picture. This reoccurring theme of blacks, whites and reds is something common to many punk bands, however some favour bold colours.

Back Cover

The back cover has the track listings on a red background, making them stand out against the picture.

The picture on the back is in grainy black and white, like many punk rock albums, and shows a depiction of what is presumably an interpretation of the character ‘Zippy the Pinhead’ who was often seen in their videos and shows, and though of as their own little gimmick.

Inside Cover

The inside cover is a colour picture of the band, promoting them further. They are all dressed similarly to reinforce their style, and the bands own personal look. As with many punk bands, the band share a similar look throughout their whole career.

Disc Tray

The disc tray shows one black and white picture of the band, again dressed similarly to enforce their image.

In the background there is visible the bottom half of a sign, presumably saying ‘Gabba Gabba Hey’ which was a well known catchphrase of the bands, and features in the song ‘Pinhead’, to which they took the meaning outcast/freak, a though the punk-rock genre relished, as the genre was about celebrating being outlandish and different than everyone else.
